Favorite Quotes:

She hated labels, but the complacent doctor had slapped her with one anyway. Two awful words encompassing a mess of complications: Panic. Disorder. It sounded like knots tangled up inside a dirty throw rug.

A.R. Hadley weaves an impassioned story about that first big emotional connection and the struggles that come with an affair that can't be left behind in the rumpled sheets. Annie is the girl with her head in the clouds amongst the castles in the sky, while significantly older Cal is held steady by numbers and work, only giving bits of himself away during his trysts with Annie. Both feel a draw between them, as though one another is intrinsic to their individual summers. Annie and Cal's interact ...more
Landslide by A.R. Hadley has a unique writing style that I absolutely loved. It is structured writing combined with bursts of poems strewn throughout the pages of wild imaginings. Uncertainty meets the unknown. Reality mixing with dreams and random thoughts.

Annie is the young heroine who meets Cal, the mysterious older man. A delicious recipe. They both keep parts of themselves hidden from each other then slowly start to open up as their story progresses. Both of them trying to hide their insec

Landslide is one of those books that will strike a chord with anyone who experienced a loss that left them shattered. She was vivified, brought back from the living dead by a landslide of emotions.

Annie is that shattered person. She is also a beautiful woman in her twenties who went to spend the summer with family friends in Florida, ostensibly, to showcase her photography. Photography was her gateway t

I enjoyed this new author’s book. Her detailed writing sucks you in and won’t let go. Annie is a 25 year old college graduate of photography. She decides to spend her summer with friends, Maggie and John, in Florida. These friends are older (mid 40s) and helped raise her since she was nine. Annie had a tragic event happen to her a year ago and is battling anxiety. She hopes this summer can help her heal. Annie meets Maggie and John’s friend Cal at their house party. Immediately Annie is engulfed ...more

I had to stop reading to write this. I’m four or five chapters in, and all I can say is that this book is mesmerizing. The elegance in the writing has me spellbound. This is how a book should be written!

I would say that’s enough said, but that’s not how you write a review.
So much can be said without dialogue, and this book proves that. This story is told through looks and gestures, through the thoughts each character has, yet doesn’t share with each other. Not with words. Instead, a mil

Ms. Hadley has a unique, artistic style of writing. Her poetic expression and descriptive words draw you into the story immediately, making the characters come to life. This is a sexy, emotional story about two people struggling to fight there demons. Annie and Cal are drawn to each other instantly, and their attraction burns off the charts. They try to find solace in each others arms, just for the summer, but their relationship is just to intense and hot to be a summer fling. There is a cliffy, ...more

Landslide is a slow burn kind of story. At first, it was a bit slow going for me until I realized that was the pace the author had set. At the end, I was not disappointed and really enjoyed the story. The characters were very well written. There are some definite feel moments throughout the story. The multiple POV’s did get confusing at times but not too much to take away from the story. I look forward to reading the next book! I give this 4 stars.
Dating an older guy is exciting, and for Annie it's a chance to experience what she's never felt before. Sexy and tempting Cal is twenty years older than her, but it only shows how mature he is compared to younger men. Mutually connected by Annie's friends, the two met and were drawn to each other instantly. From there, Cal and Annie explore a sexy yet emotional relationship and realize that they don't want to be without each other. With Annie's past haunting her every day and Cal's hot-and-cold ...more

Well, there’s good news and bad news, and it kills me to say that. With that being said, Landslide is a story that revolves around Annie and Cal, with secondary characters, Maggie and John.

Annie is a recent college graduate that has sustained a huge loss in her life. She decides to relocate to Florida to recover emotionally, find her place in the world and work on her photography. She is living with family friends, that are more of a mother/father figure than just friends.

In this book, we meet Annie. She is dealing with some pretty heavy stuff and after graduating college goes to stay with some friends for the summer. Dorothy, Annie’s biological mom, is divorced from her father. Growing up Annie’s mother dealt with addiction in turn Annie also suffered. I truly love this story.

Once in Florida with her family/friends the Allens; they Allens’ are the sweetest people and I love and adore John and Maggie. They love Annie as their own, and feel protective of her. The

Authors and readers have a relationship via a book, and an emotional one, at that. The trust of the reader is build through the words and the relationship has to benefit the reader if it is to continue. This book's skillfully penned words gained my trust but the relationship let me down. In any book there is a beginning, middle and end, yet this book was finished before the middle of Cal and Annie's story was even reached. The blurb for the book gives n

I'm having a hard time writing this review – this book was a hard read for me. Everything about it just didn't sit well with me. And I’m not sure why because it had all I usually like in a book: lovely young girl, an attractive older man, the push and pull between the characters and yet somehow I didn't connect with it. Maybe it's the fact that it isn't written in the usual M/F POV as I'm accustomed - as you read it it switches between the person's that are having a conversation.

Annie Baxter relocates to South Beach, Florida after graduating college, for a new start, so she can leave behind her grief in order to get her photos ready for an art gallery display. Cal Prescott is an older man who steps in front of her lens, who comes off mysterious, and she feels a strong chemistry with. So they decide to go on a sexy journey for just the summer with their strong connection, so what happens when that summer is over? Landslide was definitely a story that caught my attention, ...more

Not For Me...

While I thought A.R. Hadley's writing was very interesting and descriptive, it wasn't enough for me to care about Cal and Annie's relationship all that much.

Annie comes off as a little girl lost and instantly falls for the most closed off guy in the room. A guy that has zero personality and can't ever give a straight answer. His mood swings from one end to the next on the drop of a dime and he's twenty years older than her. I wasn't sure where this "relationship" was going, plus I'

Landslide a beautifully written book that flows poetically across the page. It brings you on an emotional journey of sorrow, healing, and surprises. Some that brought back painful memories for me.

The characters are so well written. Annie’s a 25-year-old photographer, a therapeutic pastime that helps her through the memories a tragedy of the past that she tries to keep in the past and the panic attacks that plague her. Cal, in his 40's, is dominant, stoic, mysterious and can’t keep himself from

I enjoyed this book, and the characters seem quite real so you can relate to them. Annie is great but sadly she is grieving and has a lot going on in that head of hers. A chance comes up for her to relocate to Florida for the summer. Determined to get in control of her life, off she goes.

The last thing she expected whilst there was to meet a very hot older man, by the name of Cal Prescott, talk about instant attraction! I was even attracted to him and I couldn't see him!! Age is just a number r

Annie makes her way to the sunshine and water in Florida under the the protection of beloved family\friends to sort herself out. She's had an incredibly life changing event and now she's trying to recuperate and move on. Then she meets Cal...

Cal is a family friend and business associate. Much older than Annie, worldly, commanding, and has a magnetic pull Annie can't resist. Cal has no problem alerting Annie to the fact he wants her and he'll have her. At the moment, Annie decides that i

A. R. Hadley is a new to me author and I was provided an ARC for a fair review.

Right off the bat, you realize the unique writing style. It’s descriptive in a way that transports you into the world of South Beach and the main female character Annie. Annie obviously has issues with anxiety further complicated by loss and is still grieving. She’s a photographer who comes to South Beach to exhibit her photos. Annie stays with a couple, John and Maggie, who she has known practically her whol

This book was descriptive, sexy, with sad undertones. A book about meeting & being drawn to someone upon first sight. Annie & Cal seem to both need what the other one gives, with both having ghosts in their past. This book really picked up for me at the end. I felt like the beginning was shrouded in some mystery until their pasts were slowly revealed. I will definitely read the next book to see where the journey takes them!!!!!

Landslide was such an enjoyable read the only reason it's not five stars is there is a cliffhanger geer , it would be the first but not last by A.R Hardley . Annie and Cal have a intense but complicated connection and at times it did get frustrating with how things turned out . I did feel alot for the characters and the storyline so when a book can make me feel everything that the characters go through it makes for a great read .

Ok so we have Annie who is trying to rebuild her life and follow her dreams as a photographer. She is young, talented and appears to be carefree. And we have Cal who is in town for a short period of time. He is serious, dominant and a lot older than Annie. Annie is able to portray herself as carefree to those around her but on the inside she is struggling and falling to pieces. Cal sees straight through this image that she portrays to her soul.

I will be the first to admit that I struggled with this book. Not the reading itself, although it did bring up memories I thought I’d stowed away forever. I struggled, I think, because the story was so gut wrenchingly relatable.

I’m not about to give away any spoilers. I can’t do that! So this review will be short.

It took me a little longer than normal to get through the first chapter. So much emotion! But, it was well worth it! Unbelievably good, deep. The author writes very well to the anxieties of life. The tragedy and hardships of life that change us. The emotions in this book rocked me. It's definitely not a quick wham-bam-thank you-ma'am kind of romance.
The main characters, Annie and Cal, meet a party and seem to be awestruck with each other. They've decided to spend as much time as possible with e

This is my first time reading a book by this author and she did not disappoint. This first book in the trilogy is an extremely emotional read. We are introduced to Annie and Cal, both very complex characters. These are two broken people that have gone through extreme situations in their lives that make the way they are. There is love, loss, pain..... all the feels in this book. Have your tissues ready. Great secondary characters as well.

This is a debut novel from this author, and she is certainly someone to watch out for in the future. Annie is an aspiring photographer, and when Cal, an older man in her sights, the chemistry is explosive. No spoilers; this is a must read, you will not be disappointed! This story has heartbreak, emotion, humour, loss, and love. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

She loves her husband.
Her children.
And Cary Grant.
She annoys those darling little children by quoting lines from Back to the Future, but despite her knowledge of eighties and nineties pop culture, she was actually meant to live alongside the Lost Generation after the Great War and write a mediocre novel while
