Alarm of War #3

Cel uświęca środki

Rate this book

Jednak zanim nastąpi atak, Cesarstwo chce sprawdzić przeciwnika, wysyłając szpiegów i skrytobójców.

Great finish to a great series

Great finish to a great series. Highly recommend for fans of space opera stories. Prologue is especially well done. More authors should end their series this way.

Unforgettable series

This may be the best series of its type I have read. It is tight, with real character development on many levels.

I enjoyed the book. I loved how the characters met challenges and grew.
The action sequences were well done and the author did a great job with the ending.

This book series have one big flaw. You have to wait quite far between the installments. I read the previous book back in 2014 and since I have a bit of a teflon memory, the long wait is a bit of an issue. Luckily the last book did not end in a huge cliffhanger so I did not have to go back and reread that book in order to pick up where I left off. After the first couple of pages I managed to get into the story quite satisfactory.

Desperate Measures is a good book. It is just my cup of tea. Star faring nations clash in space with big fleets, big ships and BFG’s (Big Fucking Guns). The last book ended in a quite satisfactory conclusion but the Tilleke nation apparently felt left out of the party so they threw together a new one. Actually, as it turns out, the Tilleke had the dirty hands in the previous party as well but you better read the book for the details on that one.

Apart from the usual tactics involving things that go boom the Tilleke favor subversion, sabotage and assassination and thus have intricate schemes in motion for this. As usual not my favorite stuff but the fleet actions in this book more than makes up for it.

I would say that the writing falls a bit short of similar books from my favorite authors like Doug Dandridge, Christopher Nuttall etc. but it is still quite good. The characters, the story, the action is all very good and quite enjoyable.

I also quite like that we get to follow the bad guys and read about when their, that they thought were cunning, plans starts to unravel when the Victorians decide to not play nice with the Tillekes.

The Tilleke, being the despicable fanatics they are, do have one last ace stuck up their sleeve though and this brings us to another thing I like with the book. As distasteful as it may be the Victorians do the only thing they can do in face of the last threat from the Tilleke instead of entering in some moral qualms and invent some half arsed excuse for a solution that would simply leave the problem to be dealt with by the next set of leaders some time in the future.

Bottom line, a very enjoyable book and just my cup of tea in terms of story.

A First Class Read

I found all three books thoroughly entertaining and would recommend them to anyone who enjoys the genre. I look forward to reading more from this author.

It was a very long wait for this book. Fortunately, it was more than worth it. Things were a little slow starting out, but that was mostly because it had been so long since "Alarm of War II" that I had trouble remembering who was who for the first couple chapters. Once the story came back to me it was a race to the finish. This book can weakly stand on its own, but is so much better after reading the first two.

The final battle gets drug out over abut a third of the book. This seemed excessive, but the reason for the details of each little battle become clear in the epilogue. The epilogue was worth the price of the book all by itself. Once I became so invested in the characters, the epilogue was like a series of novellas, each one a continuation of their stories. Some authors turn out three, four or five books a year, and sometimes they are all good. Hudner is more a master of quality over quantity. A good book on its own, an amazing finish to the series.

It's been a long wait for the final book, but the wait was worth it. The world building and character development of the first two books laid the foundation for a series of tense, epic space battles, plus culminations of character arcs seen throughout the series. It's difficult to go into much detail without spoiling some of the major plot points, so let me just say that it was a wonderful conclusion and the perfect capstone for the series!

The story comes full circle

It has been several years since I started reading this series, and the final book, all the books, where worth the wait. This is a great series and wonderful book. I wish there were more writers of this caliber!
