And so it will be so hard as I'm obsessed with M/M...Also I'm not sure how I feel about the cover; I don't think it matches, nor do I like the male model :S I know, I know, I'm shocked myself.

It breaks my heart to have to do this, but I am extremely disappointed with this book. Why? I am going to give it to you straight, just lay it all out. The reasons I am upset are......

(1) Why was Ryder a background character?

(2) Why was Ryder weak?

(3) Why was Syn such an opinionated, know-it-all, in your face character?
(4) When did this stop being The "Fae" Chronicles and start becoming The "God/Goddess" Chronicles? No more Fae. God this and God that. Goddess this and Goddess that. And bla bla bla bla bla.

(5) Why introduce new random characters? Dragons. Seriously? Oh, there is not enough shit in here. Let's throw in some dragons.

(6) Why make it to where you have to read those spin-off stories in order to understand what is going on in this series? The first part of the book, as well as other parts throughout, I had no fucking clue what was going on, having not read Lucian's book because I didn't want to read his book. I want to read Ryder's book. In order to understand half of the shit in here you are suddenly forced to read a random book off of a random series that has absolutely nothing to do with Syn and Ryder. That was fucking stupid. I could understand a spin-off supporting or intermingling with the main series, but to make it to where you have to read it for the main series? No, just no. That is jacked.

(7) When did it start becoming anything other than Syn and Ryder? Why did it become the Syn show? Syn, Syn, Syn.

(8) Where are the Fae?!?!?!?!?!? That question was self-explanatory. Where the hell are they?

(9) What is up with all this random bullshit that doesn't need to be in the story, and instead ruins or distracts you from the storyline?

(10) Why end two big issues with a fuck-it air? As if they weren't important and a big part to the story at all.

(11) Where was all the hot sex scenes?

(12) Why didn't anybody ever shut up? All that non-stop, incessant talking with very little action. I became rather bored with it all. I almost started skimming and skipping through the book.

(13) Why was it whenever anything interesting happened there was an interruption right in the middle every damn time?

The components of this book, in my opinion, were:
76% talking
15% random bullshit introduced
5% part of the previous storyline
2% action
2% progress

This story started going awry during the fourth book, but I pushed through hoping it would pick back up for this book. Boy, was I wrong. It got way worse. I miss how it was in books 1-3. I mean seriously. What the fuck happened to Syn and Ryder? I was going to rate this with 3 stars but after having written this review, and thought on it for a while, it was moved down to 1 star.

Reading is finished!!!! I don't want to spoil it for anyone so I will wait a little bit for others to read before saying anything except.....

If you haven't read Playing With Monsters or A Demon's Dark Embrace I highly suggest doing so. Things that happened in those books are clearly shown in this one. The way Amelia is intertwining the series is amazing. I can totally see those having a direct effect on this one and it is obvious that this series is the foundation for all of them.
#####

Ok, it's been a few days and I want to get my review down....

Synthia totally kicked ASS in this book! She had to face a TON of turmoil and came out swinging! So proud of my girl Syn and her neck ripping ways
Something terrible happens and we don't get to see a lot of Ryder for a good portion but when see him? Have a fan ready cause your girly bits may need cooling down
The little besties... *sigh* so adorable
New stories are set up for the future that I am already excited about
And
Once again, I can not reiterate enough that you may feel lost/confused if you don't read A Demon's Dark Embrace and Playing With Monsters first. This is on her Goodreads author page as well so there shouldn't be any surprises now when you read this and find out that you are a bit lost. I have already seen a couple reviews remarking about Amelia throwing in new characters out of the blue.... ummmm, no, you just didn't follow the advice written down for you 😉

Hmmm...Not sure what to think of this one. What I loved was the action, the kids, demon and Ryder's sister, although we don't get to see much of her throughout the book. Also, we get some awesome platform for the next books that will hopefully follow (soon). I mean, just the fact that there are now dragons coming into play is fantastic. Can't wait how that turns out but I have the feeling we might get a new ally or two from that story. Even Zahruk had some pretty great moments, which doesn't happens often, since we also don't get to see him enough.

From the start I was a fan of this series and author's writing style but in this one I felt like the characters and writing changed almost too much for me to fully enjoy it. Syn is not such a badass as we know her from the previous books. Don't get me wrong, she's still strong but there were scenes where she suddenly breaks down and then we are made believe that she can in the next moment have it all together. The thansition of emotions wasn't that well made, at least for me. It wasn't that believable. Also, what happened to Ryder? He was supposed to be the alpha of all alphas and not so mellow. I loved how he loved his woman but I still missed his grouchy, sometimes cold personality from before. And let's not forget what happened to him at the end, just shoking! I mean, how could the author choose that path for him, I will never understand it. It was so unnecessary and it just left me with a bad aftertaste (). What bothered me was also the formation of some sentences. Keep it simple, on point and short, like Nalini Singh and try not to pack it all in one sentence. I get that the author wanted to show us that Syn's strong and that nothing will stop her from protecting the people she loves but we don't need the author to emphasize that too much. Say it once, twice and we'll get it. And, holly shit, don't even get me started on the wedding. I get that the mother always wants to help but it's one thing to actually help the bride and another to plan the whole thing yourself, even if the bride doesn't want those choices and is just too polite to decline the help. I mean, seriously. That really made my blood boil. Not cool, not at all!!!

The only good thing that came out of all that is that some certain people died and we got some answers of how to save both worlds. There were some sad moments, some good one and in the end all that made the story all right.

Would I say it blew me away? No. But I'm still a fan and will read the next book that is hopefully Ciara's.

“Every part of me belongs to you, Fairy."
description

Unraveling Destiny is the fifth book in The Fae Chronicles. Syn is straddling two worlds, and even with Ryder by her side, the threat of death and separation is always looming!

description
“There’s no one else I want, not now, not ever. It’s only you, and it’s always been you.”
Syn and Ryder are preparing for their upcoming nuptials. Although it should be a time for love and beauty, violence and darkness continue to interrupt the happy couple. When Ryder and Syn find themselves in the battle of their life, they never stop leaning on each other. Ryder is fiercely protective of Syn. And Syn will never let anything happen to her mate. Together they are unstoppable.
“I’m not some weak-ass girl who needs to be protected, Fairy. Whatever fucks with you will need protection from me, because Goddess be warned, I will fuck up anything and anyone who seeks to harm my future husband. Understand?”
Told in dual POV, Unraveling Destiny is craftily constructed as each piece of the complex plot is revealed. The supporting characters begin to play a more prominent role in the story, and the relationships between the characters are imperative to the plot. For Syn and Ryder to save their world, everyone must join the fight. The writing of Ms. Hutchins is lyrical and rich with detail. I find this world to be like my "home away from home." I will never tire of Syn and Ryder and this magical place in which they live. I highly recommend that you read this series back to back to keep this world's knowledge and intricate factors straight.

Overall, Unraveling Destiny is an absolute must-read for Fae fans. I recognize the series continues to grow, and yet, I will never get enough. When is book #6 set to be released? I do not know. However, one thing is certain, my Kindle and I will be ready and waiting.

It might be time for me to jump ship on this series. I’m going to put as much effort into writing this review as the author put into telling a story.

1. She TOLD a story.
This damn thing is info dumps galore. Not much else happens. Just pages of monologues where characters explain absolutely every detail of everything they’ve ever done/need to do.

2. Ryder is barely in it.
What in the hell do you think I’m reading for? Plot? Because...see above.

3. Barely any sexy time.
Because, you know, HE IS HARDLY THERE.

4. Syn is basically queen of the universe.
Yeah, we got it, Mary Sue. You have all the powers and you’re going to be queen and you’re basically invincible and everyone adores you after talking to you for five seconds. Yet, you still can’t catch the damn Mages or fix the Guild or save Faery or so much of anything.

5. IT WAS REALLY BORING.
And I’m mad. I started skimming when I realized another monologue was about to start. The characters just kept recapping and repeating themselves and recapping and repeating themselves.

This is the fifth book in the Fae chronicle series though not my favourite of this series I still enjoyed it a lot. These later books for me just don’t have the same punch as the earlier ones don’t get me wrong there all still decent reads I just think I was initially spoiled with just how epic the earlier ones were.

The story continues here with Synthia preparing for her wedding to Ryder but with things still amiss in Faery, it’s not long before she’s again battling enemies on all fronts and her wedding is the last thing on her mind. There are also portals opening and growing all across Faery giving the fae access to the human realm.

There is a lot going on here we have Mages and the discovery of an old enemy (thought long dead) dragons, there are ancient Demi-goddess witches that have been in stasis for years but are now awakening. Ryder sister is missing and then Ryder himself is snatched forcing Synthia to risk it all to get him back.

This was well written and had plenty of action we get to indulge ourselves in Ryder and Syn’s delightful offspring and this moved the story onwards ready for the next chapter. War is now a certainty and the horde King and his Queen are ready to stand together united in their goals.
If you immersing yourself in all that is fae this series is a definite must.

I hate that I'm giving this a 1 star rating. I loved the first books of this series but now *sigh*
So much exposition. Everything is conveyed through dialogue, EVERYTHING! Each chapter is just people having long, repetitive conversations (Do you get what's happening, DO YOU GET IT?? YES I DO MOVE ON ALREADY!)

Also during emotional moments where a character is going through something important, someone comes in and starts talking about something completely different, disrupting the entire mood of the scene. This happens more than once.

I just could not get into this book. I still remember I devoured the first 3 novels, reading each line. I was skimming and skipping lines in this novel, waiting to get completely immersed back into the wonderful world Hutchins created. It never happened.

I miss the old Ryder and syn. I no longer enjoy the dynamics between these too. Such a shame. I used to really love them as a couple. While this story was action packed and sweet in places it still lacked the earlier spark of the first books.

Do I love the author Amelia Hutchins and read everything she writes? Yes
Is the Fae Chronicles one of my all time favorite paranormal series? Yes
Did I buy Unraveling Destiny (Book 5) as soon as it went live and read it as soon as I got my hands on it? Yes

It’s obvious I love the author, this series, and have been anxiously awaiting Book 5 since Book 4 was released. I have re-read this series a few times when I’m in a slump and need a good pick me up.

So what I’m about to say gives me extreme pain: I did not love it. I have been letting my feelings marinate on this one and have come to the following reasons on why I did not love this. The hidden is all serious spoiler content, so please beware.

At the end of the day I need to quit whining. I just love this series so much and had the highest of expectations. I obviously did not hate it, I think in my mind I just pictured it going another way. I definitely will re-read sometime in the future and maybe my opinion will change. I will still highly anticipate Book 6 and look forward to see how all this gets resolved from here. My love for Synthia and Ryder will remain strong and I’ll continue to read everything she puts out.

I still can’t get enough of the warnings that Amelia Hutchins gives at the beginning of her books.

“Ready?” I asked, unwilling to wait any longer to get Ryder back.
“The moment we cross the threshold, the timer starts counting down,” Zahruk pointed out.
“Then there’s the part about not getting out alive,” Ristan added.
“And?” I asked, knowing that somehow, we’d survive this.
“And count me in,” Ristan shrugged, watching me, “Sounds like fun times.”
The moment we started towards the doors, all hell broke loose.”

I’m Synthia, Goddess of Faery and the Queen of the Horde. I will reign down blood and fire to get my King back, and if I have to do it without you, so be it. I will not fall. I will not bow. I will become the monster they accuse us of being if they wish it. You can either stand with me in solidarity, or stay the hell out of my way. The choice is yours.” – I stand with you Synthia!

War is still on the horizon, becoming ever closer. Chaos is erupting. Enemies are being revealed. Allies are coming out of shadows. Faery is still dying. Prices must be paid. And sacrifices will be made. The stakes are infinitely higher and Synthia must fight for the love that has been taken from her. Ever growing portals have been opened connecting Faery and Terra, leaving the human world vulnerable for attack. Dragons live in the shadows of the Horde and are seeking vengeance. Ciara has been stolen from the Horde Kingdom. Plans are in order to rebuild a new Guild. Faolan is still out there and the Mages are readying to strike. But the Gods are present and they have laws that even Synthia must abide by. Fixing the tree did not heal Faery like it was meant to and bigger, scarier things are happening to Faery. Danu is dying. Both worlds are crumbling and everything hangs in the balance for Synthia and Ryder….But there is still hope for Faery and its people.

“Sometimes the world doesn’t need another hero, sometimes it need a monster” – Man bun

Synthia is truly put to the test. Without Ryder for guidance she must prove herself as Queen of the Horde and conquer those who oppose. She must execute her strength, power, dominance and courage more than ever in this rescue mission to retrieve that which was stolen from her. With Zahruk and Ristan at her flank, she must rally the forces of Faery and collect allies to make a statement to their enemies. Synthia’s loyalties will always be to her family even if that means forsaking the Guild regardless of where she was raised. She must make challenging decisions and will stop at no one and nothing. Synthia was savage in her show of authority when dominating the Horde. She was brilliant and brutal and exuded power in all her Goddess Glory. She broke down yes but strength is not a state of permanence and a person has to be vulnerable to become strong again. I loved her bloodthirsty side though.

“I’d kill for him. I’d wreck worlds for him.”

“Yes, I wanted to fall down and curl into a ball, but I wouldn’t. I would keep my head held high, erect my defences, and straighten my tilted crown. They may have thrown the first punch, but I’d make sure I got the last hit in and I would watch them fall.”

This story (well this series as a whole) is a tale of redemption – for the worlds, for the people and for the creatures. It toys with concepts of whether people are worth redeeming, worth saving; worth fighting for. Because humanity and human nature have dark sides and violence is inherent in our natures. It questions the necessity of conflict and consequences of perverse manipulations. The lengths people will go out of blind love and the lengths they will go for evil and which virtues should reign overall. The fight for good and evil is a continuous one and it is still one we are trying to understand but also understanding that 'good' and 'bad' are in themselves invalidated concepts because the world and its people are morally grey - there is 'bad' in 'good' and vice versa. This story also explores loss and continuation and accepting grievances that come with it.

“So here we are, and it matters little how we arrived here. What matters is what you decide to do next. So tread carefully because dominos are always falling, no matter what you do to stop them.”

This book carries the important message that the conception of life is that it is one of continuity which means it does not stop even when you do, it does not discontinue deaths descent. It does not halt for your woes, your sorrows, loss or heartache. It continues in an attempt to show a person that they must too continue. That trauma is essential to life just as much as it is a part of it, that pain is the same but you forge forward because of it not in spite of it. You feel that hurt, you let it break you only to heal yourself in whatever capacity you can. Trauma does not discriminate and it takes all hostages who let it. Synthia is the prime example of this and she is a warrior in both mind and body with how she deals with such complications. Synthia understands that loss is inevitable but sacrifices of happiness don’t necessarily need to be made for the sake or pardon of that loss. That just as much as loss, life is also inexorable, to live means to lose as they go hand in hand.

“One thing I know in my heart about death, and I have experienced enough of it, is that just because a body dies, doesn’t mean the memory fades. You can keep someone alive until the end of time as long as you remember them.”

I'd also like to say that just because Synthia and Ryder were brought together by Destiny, that they were made for each other (some may say they follow the notion of 'soul mates') it does not mean like some would think that they don’t have to fight for their love. They, in fact do a hell of a lot of it to keep it and maintain it. They work for it. Being meant for another does not mean a guarantee for happiness; it does not mean a happy ever after. I believe it means two souls of a homogenous nature (or maybe even multiple companionable souls), two compatible souls that are always seeking each other out and when they do they know the seas will be rough, that the tide will be turbulent, that the wind will knock down their sails but that they will sail anyway because they choose it, because in their heart of hearts they know it will be more than worth it if only because they know the love will be lasting in whatever state... because in those pockets when the seas do calm, they will settle and swim into the depths of it without question.

“When I’d lost him, I hadn’t been able to breathe. He was my air, the very stuff I needed to live. We’d faced losses, battles, and so much more together. Death had tried, and lost against us. The price for being together hadn’t been easy to pay, but it had been worth every hardship we’d faced together.”

I love the Fighting Destiny series with all my heart, I love the characters like they are my friends, I love the world like it is my second home, I love the fairies like they are my kin and I love the magic in all its iridescent splendour. I love the sadistic, cruel world and I love Amelia Hutchins for creating it. It pains me gravely to say this but it did not live up to expectation for me. I did not hate it but I loved it less than I thought I would. It was lacking in many areas for me and in all honesty I think that it does not compare to Fighting Destiny and Taunting Destiny (which were truly exceptional). It made me cry, it made me feel and it made me crumple but it did not light me with passion and excitement.

I really don’t like companion novels and apparently ‘Playing with monsters’ and ‘A Demon’s Dark Embrace’ take place after Seducing Destiny. This frustrated me because I’m anal when reading books in order but I didn’t want to read them because I want to solely read Ryder and Synthia. Because I didn’t read the companions there was information that I did not follow and parts (especially in the beginning) did not make sense. It was convoluted and troublesome to follow considering my inability to consume companion novels. I didn’t understand much of what happened with Lucian (why Alden is in his possession and what the ‘soul and seal’ are) as well as what exactly happened between Ristan and Danu. I heard that Unraveling Destiny is the last book for Ryder and Syn and that broke me because I don’t want it to be. If this is the case though, it hurts me to say this but I don’t think I can continue with the series because I’m not truly invested in the POV of other characters.

Downsides and concerns:

Contains spoilers

Theories:

1) Synthia had said that Satan was an angel that was cast from heaven though he was God’s favourite son. Could Lucian be Satan seeing as he is supposed to be powerful and nobody knows what he is?
2) Does Lena descend from the Original Witches seeing as she is supposed to be powerful?
3) I want to know what Synthia promised Danu when they said their goodbyes and what Synthia will have to do to save Faery.

Chapters:

Amelia Hutchins is an incredible storywriter and inventor. She is shameless and unabashed in her endeavours to make us feel everything and I love to feel everything she smacks in my face. Her world building is brilliant, her character developments are strong and substantial and the twists and turns are ever present and just as shocking as you could imagine them to be. She is one of my favourite authors and I wouldn’t let my critiques displace you because her writing is great and her plotlines are well thought out. I do desperately hope she carries on Synthia and Ryder’s story because they are up there with my favourite fictional couples and I don’t want their story to end because I hate endings.

...And so the Horde King and Queen stepped out of their wedding attire and into their battle gear and set off into the damaged world to wreak carnage on those who destroyed it.

The present I think, has never looked so bleak.
The future I think may hold promise.
And war, I think will have no mercy.

Favourite Quotes

“Sometimes it takes a monster to rule” – Lucian
“And sometimes the monster becomes the hero” – Syn

“I’ve wanted to bring you here since you came back to me. It’s the flowering fields, where the fairies pull a special magic from here that makes the stones of the Fairy pools glow. This is what I think of when I think of you. You light up my world, Pet; no matter how dark it gets, you mirror this field in my soul.” - Ryder

“This beast, this mythical creature who I loved, undid me. This man was my life. Somewhere in the midst of fighting him, I’d fallen in love with him so deeply that I no longer cared if there was a bottom to the depths for which I fell for him.”

If you are planning on reading Fae chronicles, you should know that you have to read the entire Fae Universe series, in the order author suggests, or you will have huge gaps from book five onwards.
I read Ristans book, skipped Lucians 1st book, and went straight to this one. It's not that I couldn't follow the plot, but some characters and events from Lucian's book were referenced several times, without further explanation for those who haven’t read the book. Since there are seven books between this one and the next one in Fae chronicles, I’m guessing the plot will be impossible to follow. So that is what will make me pause with the series for a while.

Regarding Unraveling Destiny itself, the book was great! A lot of action, a lot of character development, and an excellent introduction to the impending war. I like Syn more and more with each book. She was already a badass fighter, but now she has gone nuclear.

I'm so disappointed.

I want to go back and try to read it again because I loved and I mean LOVED the previous books. I saw a bit of a downfall in book 4 from books 1-3, but I was still in there, rooting and for cheering Ryder and Syn, the Fae's and the land of Fairy. However, something happened between book 4 and now and I'm completely thrown. To understand everything that's happening, I needed to have read another book in another series which involved a character from this series, Ristan and his love/hate interest, Olivia. But I hadn't read that book yet, so going into this one, I didn't understand how Ristan suddenly had a mate and it was the chick who betrayed them from book 4. Ugg! To confusing.

Anyhow, I got about 30% of the way in and had to stop for a while. I care about these characters A LOT! I loved the first three books. Ryder is so alpha and sexy, it's almost illegal how much fun he was to read. Syn was badass and snarky and I loved that about her. But in this book, or what I read of it, it's all about their babies this and their babies that. Don't get me wrong. I like the addition of kids in their story and they play a huge role, but something was lost along the way.

Syn's snark has turned a bit too opinionated and Ryder ... well, hottie lost a step. The sexy-steamy hotter than forty suns Ryder? Not as sexy-steamy ... *sadface*. The spicy bedroom scenes? Mostly gone. There's so much dialogue to get through and very little action ... from what I read. Oh, and the additional characters, who made it all so confusing for me? Wasn't happy about that.

So, because I loved the previous books so much, I'm hoping I'm just in a book funk and that's why this one didn't pull me in... but I'm having doubts it was just me after reading some of the other reviews. This makes me so sad.

I might try to read the other book from the other series and hope that catches me up. Then maybe I'll come back and read this one again... or at least try to. But it's going to be much, much later. I need a break because I was so disappointed in this direction this story has/is taking.

Second read April 2021

Okay, so after reading my previous review I don't think I quite agree with my past self. Because while yes, this book definitely lacked smut (as in there were only two smut scenes, but boy were they hot as hell) it was still so packed with action that I was absolutely here for it! Except the first like 20%ish that was literally all talking and whatnot and I was so bored. Lol.

I am really happy I decided to read this series as it intertwines with the rest of the series in this universe. It has made for a much better reading experience. I slightly remember being confused about Olivia and Ciara the first time I read this series. And knowing now that I will find out what happens it super exciting!

Now, there are many books in between this one and the next Fae Chronicles book. Seven to be exact, which I'm not very excited about. But I am so stoked to learn more about all of the side characters that I've grown to love so dearly! :D

On to Sleeping with Monsters!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First read September 2017
This book totally got me all in my feels. So much happened. But I feel like not enough happened. There were so many story lines that were left open. I love this series, don't get me wrong. But I was left a little unsatisfied with this book.
There was no where near as much smut in this book as the others. Which upset me and didn't upset me at the same time. I started this series for the smut. But the smut that is missing from this book was because of the action that happens.
All in all, I still liked this book. However it only gets 3.5-4 stars from me because it was lacking a little for me.
** These will all have spoilers from the previous books and more than likely… some spoiler-y stuff from the current. I try to be vague but am writing a ton of these at once and could get mixed up. 😊 So…. Proceed with caution and 🛑if you want to go in completely blind.**
2.5 ⭐'s
I’m not going to spend a ton of time on this, if you’re this deep into the series… you’re going to probably keep going. This was my least favorite to date mostly because it felt like filler.
I had to read two books (Demon’s Dark Embrace and Sleeping with Monsters) in between this, so I can’t even remember where we left off. I sort of feel like the author forgot also because it was all repeated….
**SPOILERS**
Like a recap of Lucian and Lena and their mess from their book… and a repeat of the entire Ristan/Danu history conversation to Syn that we just had in his book that she acts like is new information. Why must we have to read all these books if they just overlap all over each other?
And how many times must Syn tell us that she’s Danu’s daughter, Goddess of the Fae and the future Horde Queen?? We got it…. You're SPECIAL.... And ENOUGH with the speeches… It ok to just have a normal conversation.
I am Synthia, Daughter of Danu, Goddess of Faery, and the Queen of the Horde. I am a queen by choice and birthright.
This is REALLY spoiler-y, but I almost skipped this one, so I thought I'd pass on the deets. There’re several reviews out there talking about Ryder being raped by Hectate’s daughters. I’m not sure if there’re revised copies, but this is what mine says….
“Hecate’s daughters,” he murmured breathlessly. “They tried to seduce me, they drove me to the brink of release, but I never let them have me. They wanted a child from me,” he admitted, and I lifted my head. The noises leaving me were too much; I couldn’t speak, couldn’t think past anything other than the rage that shot through me. I should have killed them, slit their fucking throats. Instead, I’d let them leave. “My child would have created a line they wanted, but my children are yours. Only yours. I withstood their spells, their antics, and even their mirror image of you. They pretended to be you, but I knew it wasn’t you…
It's totally left up to interpretation, so I can see why there're different opinions out there. I hate thinking of Ryder this vulnerable, so I imagined no touching just a spell to give him a hard on. I kept thinking his Beast would kill anyone that tried to touch him, but he was chained...
Bottom Line- This book is the Syn Show, so if you think she’s awesome… you’ll probably enjoy this… but… if you’ve been struggling with her for 5 or so books… cough… 🙋‍♀️… you might have issues… Or… if you are loving this ride… you probably won’t mind the filler… but… if you’re ready to get out but the car is still moving… cough…🙋‍♀️… you might have issues.
2 stars … I think this might be the end for me on the Ryder and Syn saga.
I like to read Amelia Hutchins books by publication date. It’s kind of confusing, but if you go to her website she has a list of books in which order to read them. As you can see I’m a fan of all her writings, especially her spin-off series. I just finished the fantastic audio of Playing with Monsters and before I jump into Sleeping with monsters I knew I had to read Unraveling Destiny.
Here’s the thing about the Fae Chronical series. It’s a good series. There’s angst, tension and the sexual tension between Ryder and Syn is addicting AF, BUT it starts to go downward towards the 4th book and on. I’m not sure if Amelia is fresh out of ideas or she is just writing whatever comes to her mind, but there’s one word to describe Unraveling Destiny…
BORING
And very repetitive.
I’m pretty sure 30% of the book could have been edited out and it would have made it flowed a lot better.
It took me a month to read this book, I basically forced myself to read one chapter a day. Yup. I forced myself to.
I think I didn’t enjoy this book as much because the pace was slow and the Ryder and Syn relationship is just a snore. I love that she has kids and I love that she is a Goddess but what happened to Ryder in this book? Why is he so emasculated?
The side storyline of what’s happening in the fairy world is boring as well. I’ve been on a PNR binge, So I have been reading the Night Huntress series (I’m on book five) by Jeaniene Frost and the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones (I’m on book 4). And there’s no comparison. The tension the author creates between the main Heroine and Hero is still there, it still has you glued to the pages and I love the tension that is created in those books.
I hate to compare authors, but when I read 3 series at a time and one is lacking, you wish, why can’t an author write a series like that?
I don’t want to stop reading the Fae Chronicle series because they were so addictive, but I need some serious tweaking. I want it to go back to the roots. I want more world building and less boring and slow going repetitive storyline. I want a new tension between Ryder and Syn, but a good one, where it’s still cute and fun, but hot and sexy. What happened to all the sex?
I will admit the sex scene, .
I don’t know. I’m happy to go into the Monster series and maybe I like the Monster series more because I can do it audio and I can listen to really long books via audio.
Who knows, but I need a break from Ryder and Syn for now. Sorry.
OMFG!!! 😍
I really love Synthia and Ryder, I love their story for many reasons. The plot, the characters and the spin offs.
Ryder and Synthia may have a rocky beginning but they fought hard to be together. Though I wish that I couldve seen more of Ryder being the Horde King here.. All in all it was a good read and cant wait for them to finally have their Happy Ending
This series is a must read! 👍🏻
I hate that it took me so long to finish this book but life has had me very busy
I have enjoyed every book in this series and "Unraveling Destiny" was not any different for me at all.
Synthia and Ryder have always been put thru the ringer with their relationship and this book is not any different.
I love the dynamic of their relationship
I am honestly so freaking confused right now. What exactly was the whole point of Unraveling Destiny? It didn't feel like anything truly happened and I was completely bored with all the info dumping. Also, how can you barely have my man Ryder in this?? Without him we get zero smutty scenes and I came into this book wanting the smut people!
I didn't dive into this for the scenery or to get more useless information that I will never remember even if I had a gun to my head. I came for the smut. Stayed for the smut. GOT ZERO SMUT. Nada. Zilch.
What I did get was disappointment with a side of frustration.
Not even sure if I'm excited to dive into the next book of this chronicles.. but I will need more wine whenever I decide to do so.
Whew, this latest installment of this series was a doozy and left me with my emotions all over the place.
I'm not going to go into a lot of details about this book because it was just to much... I can tell you that I laugh out loud, cried, got piss off, felt victorious and then cried again... But one thing is for sure I enjoyed the hell out of this book. I was captivated and engaged throughout this entire book..hell even the entire series that I've read so far for that matter.
If you have gotten to this point and have read book 5 of the Fae Chronicles you now have a understanding of how she (author Amelia Hutchins) sucks you into this storyline she has created and made you fall in love with each and every character these books has introduced us to... And don't even get me started on those babies... 😍😍😍
As far as I'm concerned The Fae Chronicles are a winner in my book of fantastic reads.. And I'm waiting with great anticipation for book 6 of this series..
Now Ms. Amelia Hutchin included some nice songs into this story and I would highly suggest you listen to them... Think of it as eating sweet, juicy strawberries while sipping some champagne, it brings out the flavor... Well that's what the music does for her words, it brings out the flavor..
However, as I always do on a lot of my reviews I add my special sauce of a song that best describes this book.. And since Synitha's POV was the highlight of this book, I have a song to best described the shit she went through... The song is:
“It’s a choice, like everything else in life. You choose what you do, and how you do it.”
This was my least favorite book of the series so far, although I still enjoyed majority of it.
Syn was so stubborn and annoying in this book. I smacked my forehead more and a thousand times because of her. Yes we get it, you’re a bad ass, a Goddess and won’t let Ryder control you but come on. Let him keep you SAFE at least once?
I was extremely happy for Ristan and Olivia. To think that the “best, fun uncle” is actually going to be someone’s dad is precious.
And omg the scene with Ryder, Syn and Ryder’s beast? Holy moly! Haha I have no complaints there. I liked how much action was in this book, although some of it was a bit predictable.
