To Catch Life Anew: 10 Swedish Women Poets
Poetry. Bilingual Edition. Translated from the Swedish by Eva Claeson. A collection of poems by Sonia Akesson, Kristina Lugn, Barbro Dahlin, Margareta Ekstrom, Johanna Ekstrom, Elisabet Hermodsson, Katarina Frostenson, Eva Strom, Marie Lundquist, and Elisabeth Rynell. "Eva Claeson has skillfully gathered a bouquet of contrasting poems by ten contemporary women poets. In the Swedish landscape she opens for us, there is joy and there is misery, and since the poets are of different ages, they illuminate different aspects and atmospheres of Swedish life, from the nordic light to the long dark winter nights"--Heidi von Born.

A warm hand.
A warm house.
A warm sweater
to cover my icy thoughts.
A warm body
to cover my body.
A warm soul
to cover my soul.
A warm life
to cover my icy life.
— Sonja Åkesson
The wind has gone to roost
The moon lies low and
gleams behind the willow
The reeds stand arrow-straight
Now memories can resound
as water-rails
scream and whine
with their sharp edges
through the silence
— Barbro Dahlin
If life were not so irreplaceable
we might dare to use it.
But we put it away on the shelf
like a pair of dressy shoes
that are beautiful to see
but not for daily use.
So, we keep on sitting there
in barefoot expectation
— Margareta Ekström
