I don't buy a lot of books because a) I don't have a lot of room, and b) I can always find what I'm looking for through my library system. But I might have to buy this book AND learn to crochet because these dogs are adorable, and the personality blurbs for each breed are so funny and creative.
I was super excited to buy a book full of designs and intended to make at least four of them right away. These designs are brilliant and tailored to each breed, and the pictures compelled me to go on a bit of a yarn shipping spree in eager anticipation.
What went wrong? Well, despite a very helpful guide in the back of the book to ensure readers understand the abbreviations--especially given the regional variants thereof--I still couldn't follow the pattern. I spent about four hours and wound up with a misshapen lump. It was very difficult to follow when to make color changes and which part of the pattern to repeat. What's worse, the Great Dane pattern closed with instructions on how to fold the face of a Bulldog!
If you're a better crochet artist than I am, you might delight in these designs as I had hoped to. As for me, I'm out $20 and four hours.
