I have cried while reading a book before, but never as hard as I did reading this one. If you want an emotional and angsty read, then you've found it. It was long and detailed, but not excessively slow. The book is set up in 3 sections- one in their childhood and falling in love, one after a 6 year separation and their journey back to each other and the last is them trying to see if they can make it work after all of the heartache.

HERO~ Hendrix was a complex guy. We meet him when be is 8 years old, living with his abusive alcoholic father. When the new family moves in next door his entire life changes. He was an great hero and was so in love. Then we see a Hendrix after a 6 year separation. He is changed. He's angry and making bad choices. Breaking a promise to never drink, he too is fighting demons. Still being in love with Maddie and a run in with her dad sets him on the path back to her. He had such sweet, loving moments and then moments he was a total dick, lashing out because of his emotional pain...

HEROINE~ Maddie was sweet and totally devoted to Hendrix. She didn't see his home life, she loved him for him. She was a lost soul after Hendrix broke her heart. The stuff she endured was heartbreaking.

SEXUAL HISTORY~ They were each other's first and only.

OM DRAMA ~ no OM drama

OW DRAMA~ While the OW drama wasn't extreme, it also felt very much like drama for the sake of drama. Two women hit on him in a bar - he completely shuts them down. Then another girl Sadie, that he was friends with- never kissed her or had sex with her- wanted to be more than friends and he again shot her down. She made two appearances and was again just unnecessary to the story. What I didn't like was Sadie had been one of the girls who was mean to Maddie in school. Just seemed kind of dirty (and out of character) of him to hang out, even as friends with her. This woman clearly wanted more with him by her actions so I didn't care for it. Just my opinion.

STEAM Not a lot of steam - definitely needed more

VIOLENCE none of a sexual nature

SECONDARY CHARACTERS a few good secondary characters who I believe have stories coming too....

SAFETY Neither were with others during the separation. I know heroine never kissed anyone else and Hendrix said Maddie was the "only woman he had ever been inside" so that left it open to speculation for me.

ENDING~ The epilogue was ok, but I expected so much more. I NEED a look into their future..more than a few months ahead.

Spoilers ahead

This book was pretty long but not boring, it's separated into three parts

The beginning
We meet 8 year old Hendrix as a victim of abuse by his alcoholic father, when a new family moves into his neighborhood he goes seeking a playmate and meets Maddie. We see them as they grow older with a powerful connection having developed from the moment they met. As Maddie goes off to college however, Hendrix's father gets into debt with the mob who threaten Hendrix into fighting for them. When they threaten Maddie, Hendrix makes the decision to break up with her to keep her safe
**I absolutely loved Hendrix in the first third of this book, he was wonderfully protective and 100% committed to Maddie, now the mob bit threw me a little but I rolled with it

The middle
It's six years later and the pain of his breakup with Maddie has driven Hendrix into alcoholism. We see him at a bar talking to 2 women and meet his psycho friend Sadie. Hendrix claims to have looked for the h but was unable to find her after his mob business problem was resolved. In the present he gets a transfer to his the fire station his dad is in charge off and gets a double shocker as he finds his dad, no longer a drunk but sober for years. Then Hendrix is shocked to be called to the scene of an assault and finds the victim to be none other than Maddie. This time Hendrix refuses to let her go
** This read like someone else wrote it, the plot completely devolved from beautiful and well written to soap opera OTT drama for drama's sake.
1) The women - Hendrix tells Maddie that she's the only woman he's ever been inside but in the bar he wondered if he'd gotten drunk and had sex with one of the women he was talking too. The way that bar scene played off then with Hendrix's later words it's like the author confused herself. (Based on the way he loved the h, and for my own piece of mind I'm choosing to believe he wasn't with anyone else but I'd have definitely liked it clarified) We also meet Sadie who seems desperate for Hendrix, this relationship was weird as hell! Hendrix says they'd only spoken at times at the bar and he did know her from school, but her behavior implied a deeper connection making it quite clear that this was thrown in just to cause drama and angst to the plot..... UNNECESSARILY I might add
2) Hendrix has turned into a mindless raging bull, he's got a horrendous temper and is always raging out at the slightest provocation.
3) The h now works as a social worker running a home for victims of DV, she's attacked by one of the abusive husbands and suffers a head injury. When she's discharged she goes home with Hendrix and a few days later they had sex, the amount of head whipping, hair pulling, blowjob giving that took place I think the author actually forgot the h was seriously injured.
4) Hendrix finally makes his apology and begs for a second chance

The end
We see Hendrix and Maddie as they work to overcome the mistrust and bad choices of the past, but this time Maddie is keeping a secret. When she finally confesses Hendrix AGAIN flies off into a rage and shit comes out of his mouth without his brain's cooperation. He eventually gets some sense, they get engaged and we FINALLY end with a pregnancy and the entire family together, with hints for future books

**Had this continued in the same vein as the first parts I'd have rated this 4 stars, the author however chose drama over a solid and believable plot which unfortunately drastically lowered my rating.

I loved the secondary characters of grandmama and Shelby and I may try the next book in the series

No cheating
Second chance with a 6 year separation, the h was definitely celibate and one assumes the H was as well
OW drama
h is attacked
H was abused physically and verbally as a child
Domestic Violence to secondary characters
Loss of a child

Melodramatic, over the top, and contrived plot....headache inducing writing and annoying as 'Styrofoam being rubbed against each other' characters.

My heart broke. “Love you too, pretty girl. Now, forever, and always.”

***

I would have given this 4 stars if it hadn't been for the drama because I was hooked for most of the book it was really entertaining and hard to put down--and I have a history essay to work on & finals this week. I'm glad I finished this book just so I can continue to work on my history essay without a book calling to me.

This book is so aptly named I love it. It's a tale of young love, eight-year-old Hendrix meets seven-year-old Maddie when her family moves in next door. When she's 18, she goes off to college, but something happens to separate the two. So it's a second chance romance.

So random, but the first sex scene was really hot (now I'm doubting myself if it was lol). What took away from the book was the reason for their separation seemed over the top, unrealistic and then the events that took place after that...it was just too much drama for me. Entertaining though. I also didn't fully understand why they were separated for 6 years....
I also loved Hendrix's possessiveness.

Everyone in the reviews was like "grab your tissues and have them ready" so I expected to cry, as I'm an emotional person and cry whenever books are sad, and though I almost cried at one point, I didn't...which was kind of disappointing & to me, a hallmark of how this book wasn't the best. I think I didn't cry because what had happened to make it sad was just unrealistic. (See my spoilers above.)

Also, this book had 4-5 grammar/spelling mistakes, especially "lied" instead of "lay".

I wonder if this was the author's debut?

(the top quote is what they would say to each other all the time) :)

I really liked this book, until the 40% mark when the MMC began referring to every female character as a “shank”, “cunt”, and “witch”. I get it, you’re upset, but the misogyny wasn’t just contained to his POV unfortunately. Little Ms. Pathetic also thought of women is degrading terms when it suits her.

For a book series centered around a domestic violence shelter and victims of domestic violence this is a) unsettling and b) simply unacceptable. There is a way to convey their pain without tearing other women down in the process. I know because I’ve read those books and they’ve gotten more than this one pitiful, warning star from me.

Also, can we take a second to remind our lovely main characters that it’s been SIX FUCKING YEARS since they broke up? And you’re telling me that she literally holds her hands over her ears:
A name that would wreck me if I heard it spoken aloud. I reached up, covering my ears with my palms. “Ack. Don’t do that.”

and he’s out getting drunk every night because he’s haunted by her memory? Every night??
How is he affording this?
How is his liver still functioning? I get they both being celibate if that’s what they are going with but this excessive heartbreaking and whinyness?

Give me a break. Grow up.

DNF @ 50% when he insulted the 6th woman he’s talked to and called her a slut because she’s told him she likes him. I’m done.

Wow Every moment with you is such a tragically beautiful story my heart broke for the hero and heroine the pain they go through was so sad . The character meet at a young age when they become neighbors the friendship quickly blossoms into love and after one heartbreaking decision that will destroy them until their reunited . The first time Maddie and Hendrix met you can tell there was going to be something special for these two with each chapter we get into different parts of their relationship first setting eyes on one another, first kiss , first time in the bedroom , when they brake up , and then six years later to see how much they have changed by not having their other half . Ok if you need inspiration for Hendrix just look at the cover that is oh so drool worthy this man is so selfless the thing he had to do to keep the heroine safe just wow he turns into the man he never wanted to be but once he gets a chance to be with Maddie there will be no stopping that behemoth . Poor Maddie she becomes a shell of what she was when she learns the truth behind why the hero did what he did it was understandable why Maddie is hesitant to start anything but she did frustrate me a little . The secondary characters brought humor to the story with Gramama and shelby those two really knew how to make me laugh I 'm hoping to see more of these people because they definitely have a story to tell . I can't wait to read more by J.E Parker who did a amazing job telling a story .

This wasn't a favorite of mine. Everybody who wants to read this book, should read the trigger warnings. There is Child abuse, alcohol abuse, also a husband who abuses his wife. Some of those are the side story.

Maddie moves in next door to Hendrix. The moment he sees her he is a goner. Maddie is the nice girl next door and seven years old when she meet Hendrix, who is only a year older. Maddie never got to know her mother, who died barely giving birth to her. Hendrix's mother ran away and left him with his father. The father is a drunk and very abusive with Hendrix. Maddie has a good home with a loving and protective father and a badass grandmother.

Anyway it was pretty clear to me how this story would go. It did have a twist. I even thought of giving up during the first part, but then I knew that I had to read 60% or it wouldn't count for my challenge in the RHR group. So I finished it.

I think the book is basically not my style. And I could have smacked the main characters on the head for keeping secrets from each other, even if the main reason for breaking up was long gone.

Reminder for myself (aka: Summery with lots of spoilers):

I was ready to pull a 5 stars review after the first half of the book. It did not happen, however it still was a beautiful story skilfully written.

It did pull tears out. It did make me emotional. It did break my heart a little bit, once or twice. It did play the strings of my soul... Oh my goodness... Am I too melodramatic? Just like this book.

As a first book I have read by this author, I can easily say that I'm grabbing the book no. 2 straight away. It was so good it pulled me out of my reading slump.

The story follows Hendrix (love the name) and Maddie and their lives between 7-25. How they met, became friends and then lovers, as well as obstacles on the way to happiness. And the obstacles? Well, they sucked hairy balls but made the novel very interesting. Yes, we're talking Russian Mafia, violence, alcohol and heartbreaking childhoods. 373 pages packed with so many emotions and you cry in the end because it's over.

Now that we know how much I loved this book, let's talk about that one star i took off, but be warned - spoilers ahead.

So, once they reconnected after so many years of pain and broken hearts, Maddie shares her secret and what does Hendrix does? He surely does not listen till the end of her explanations proclaiming yet again how much he hates her, but apparently this time it's not because he needs to protect her. I just did not like the way he reacted after all these words of love spoken just a few pages earlier. Promise twice broken. But we can only be happy she gave him a third chance.

Read the book cause it's worth it ❤️

This had a lot of feels. A good portion of the book was this young couple showing us how much they love each other, and how it grew through the years (although they both admitted to falling in love from the very beginning of their friendship, way back when they were only 7 & 8 years old.) She was a sanctuary for him when things got out of hand in his home (father was a drunk abuser.) And he was a friend she needed who took it upon himself to play her protector from the mean kids at school. While she was away at college something happened (won't spoil it for ya) but they were forced to break things off between them and it nearly killed them both. Many years later, still two people with broken hearts, they meet again for the first time and he vows to win her back. Too much has happened in their time apart, is it too late?

There are a lot of heartfelt moments shared. Many heart breaking. There is a bit of comedic relief spread throughout to help balance things out. There are several sex scenes. There are also a couple violent scenes played out. You really feel for the characters and all the bad that has happened to them. The side characters all play an important roll and help bring the story to life. Gotta love the spunky and sassy Grandmama! ;) It's well written (lots of beautiful lines) and reads easily. It's split into three parts. Their youth (and leading to the break-up;) the time they spent apart; and the reunion.

*I volunteered to review an ARC of this book.

I did not finish this one. The H and h were apart more than they were together in this story. I loved the premise, but the execution was weak. I don't think they even see each other until 60% or so. It could have been good, but it wasn't for me. You may love it. Reading is subjective. I did like that the story started from the beginning in time and not in flashbacks. I hate flashbacks.

I really wanted to love this one. I tried and tried, but in the end gave up.

Every Moment with you could not be a more fitting title for this book. You will remember every moment whether happy or sad that occurred between Hendrix and Maddie. Grab those tissues cause you will definitely need them. There was some banter and laughter not only between these two, but with the secondary characters, Grandmama, Shelby, Hope and Evan. You will want to throttle Pop many times throughout all parts of the story.
There were some sensitive topics that these two suffered and it breaks your heart especially when your heart is already down with the turn this story took and add in a scene with the secondary characters and it breaks a little more. You shall see what I mean so I had this leave that as vague as possible. You will see some redemption on multiple characters and while it doesn’t overcome the past it allows closure to move forward.
The question you will be asking is if both the secrets these two have will allow them a second chance to heal their missing souls or is the damage to hard to overcome? The love that these two had from such a young age (around 7 & 8) was not fake, it was real and the events that separated these two will have you torn between which character to cheer for. You will love Hendrix no matter what and Maddie is Maddie I’ll say so that you can experience her for yourself.
This story was told in three parts for us to get the full effect from the young age of them meeting, to the events and events that occur while separated and how fate forces them in the surrounding area of an event that breaks your heart yet again, but it also forces some much-needed redemption even on the other characters parts as well. Even through them not being together you see that their love was real and forever. I will say not only will you love their story, but you will hope that you see a story on Hope and Evan cause inquiry minds want to know more about a certain scene that even has Maddie wondering what the look means. Oh, plus we need more Shelby, Maddie and Hendrix. The added bonus was a few chapters on some surprise POV that made the book that much more real. While it does contain some sensitive topics, I highly recommend this story as you really feel the characters and can relate this to real life as well.

That was pretty heartbreaking

I really felt this book. I mean FELT it deeply. It reminded me of when I left for college and left the boy I loved behind. It was very touching and I loved their relationship and then we went into the realm of complete insanity. Russian mafia and underground fights!?!? I have to say I almost put the book down and walk away but no I stayed. I had to know and it was just gone then. Never saw the breakup, never heard how it happened, how it went down or anything and it was disappointing. His battle with alcohol and skanky women especially Sadie. Why just why? And he was celibate?!? Right. I believe that almost as much as I believe that n the tooth fairy. His thoughts at the stupid drunk bar scene saying 'did I sleep with her' about the bartender!?!? And then his moves with the h when he got her back? They all had manho written all over them. He might not have been 'inside' of them but he was somewhere with them. I hated him. I hated his anger and I just didn't like him at all. I actually thought Ty was the better man at that point. So why four stars? The heroine up to about 85%! She was awesome. I loved her and the way she treated the abused women and children. She was kickass. I loved the Grandmother. Favorite character ever. I loved her dad Keith and people will kick my but for this but I loved Pop. No I hated him at first for sure but dang if that man didn't win my heart. He was broken and I guess I like broken and he did a 360 and I was so proud of him. And then there was Shelby. She is something else. Then there were those little boys who just touched my heart. And that is why there are four stars! Her characters are people I would love to know in real life and I knew them. The author's words brought them to life. They felt real and I can't say how much this book touched me. It really is wonderful. I will have to try more of hers. Just as long there is no ow/om drama that I believe.

Second Chance Love at its best

This wasn't just your regular love story, this was a saga of monumental proportions. This is the first story i have read by J.E. Parker, and what an introduction to her work!!! I love the way she tells her story, everything is included, every last little detail and thought is mentioned. Ms Parker writes in such a way that she doesn't allow her reader to miss out on anything.

This is the story of Hendrix and Maddie, to people who met as neighbours at the ages of 7 and 8. They formed a friendship that would remain with them forever. Together they experienced many firsts - it was as though they were made for each other. However, both their lives dramatically alter when Maddie goes off to college. Reunited after six years of separation, it is obvious as to how drastically these two characters have changed. They are no longer the "happy-go-lucky" teenagers they once were.

To tell what happens in this story would be to do the author a great injustice. This is one that really needs to be read. Suffice to say, you will laugh and cry, you will be left totally speechless, but most of all you will long for the happiness that both Hendrix and Maddie once shared.

An absolute MUSTREAD, highly recommended.

Wow! What an emotional roller coaster. Grab your Kleenex box before beginning. This is my first time reading this author's work and I wasn't disappointed. She reeled you from the very beginning and kept me hooked until the very end. The plot was interesting. The story-line flowed smoothly throughout the book. The characters were well-developed and easily relatable to me. My heart broke for these two lovers with all that they went through. The struggles these two went through was heart wrenching! While J. E. Parker does skip ahead in time, she does give you the back fill of what went on. I will be adding this one to my personal Kindle library. I can't wait to read her next one!

I am surprised this book had such good reviews. I found it to be quite the painful read. so OTT x 10. Hendrix is also the worst. He's such a pushy, alpha-in-all-the-wrong-ways-male. The back and forth shrill, ridiculousness at the end of the book had me skimming quickly

***SPOILER***
This is a REAL scene from the book: After Hendrix has the most irrational, asshole reaction (which totally went against all sentiments he espoused before it and therefore furthered my opinion that he is THE WORST) to finding out Maddie was once pregnant and the child had died. One of his first emotional responses is "I could've taught him how to ride a dirt bike." This is just one of many times when I found my jaw dropping and laughing over what I was reading.

EMOTIONAL & INTOXICATING
**Childhood Sweethearts & Second Chance Romance!

I am crazy in love with Hendrix & Maddie! I adore romances that grow from childhood friends into teenage sweethearts!
After growing up side by side; Maddie & Hendrix know each other better than anyone else around. Hitting almost every milestone together and surviving the cruel childhood that Hendrix endured creates a bond between these two that they feel is indestructible!
But of course life never allows true love to exist without some form of heartbreak!
Promises are broken & hearts are shattered!

OH MY HEART!!!
These two, their love for each other in each stage of their lives felt so powerful and I swooned at the connection these two had. I love so many of their moments together that it would be difficult to pick a favorite one! Just be prepared to need the tissues! I don't cry during books too often but this one just picked at my soul piece by piece until one scene I couldn't take it anymore. The tears just silently flowed.

My FAVORITE part about this book!!!!!!
I found something within these pages that is rare in most of the books that I read! Hendrix's devotion to Maddie during their time apart. I LOVED LOVED LOVED that part so much! It was just one way that I could feel the strength of their love. That even apart, they loved the other so much that no one else mattered!
The amount of forgiveness that existed inside these pages is just proof that love knows no bounds.

There were some moments in the third part of the book that it felt like the depth of the emotions weren't as strong or deep as the first two parts. It just felt a bit rushed towards the end. Regardless of those, their love was so strong; that no matter what problems presented themselves you could feel the power of their love and just knew that these two were inevitable!
And that ending was absolutely perfect!

I enjoyed this story so much. The beginning was excellent. I suffered along the characters and wanted to root for them. I couldn't get enough of them.
What really made me mad was the H attitude towards the end, I mean, I'm still mad at him. I may understand his reasoning but still...
I really want to continue reading this series and see what else is there.

A Long Way to Get There

Whew what an epic tale this is! The minute it started with a Part One, I knew I was in for one heck of ahaul. J.E. Parker likes to tell a full, every detail and thought included story. Her writing style was hard for me to get use to at first, however was tolerable a few chapters in.

In Every Moment With You, we are introduced to Hendrix (loved his name) and Maddie. Kind of a wrong side of the tracks love story if you will, but they lived next door to each other with very different upbringings. Hendrix fell for Maddie the minute he saw her at eight years old. They quickly became thick as thieves and of course, as they aged, things got more serious.

Hendrix fought to stay alive, while Maddie was there to help him every step of the way, that is until she had to go off to college and leave him behind. This is where the story totally gets out of whack and we fast forward six years. Like I said, every detail is explained, however it's a lot to take in. As well as the characters doing a compete 180 degree turn of thier original selves.

Hendirx had to make a choice, one that ruined both of thier lives. When they are reunited the six years later under terrible circumstances, I wasn't sure if I even wanted them back together. They'd both been through so much, hers self inflicted and his the bad decisions of another.

Maddie was an odd, push over, but not quite character and Hendrix started out as book boyfriend quality, then quickly dropped the title with his actions in the latter half of the book. For such a sexually inexperienced guy, he really pushed the envelope when they reunited and it didn't make sense with who he was originally. It was a complete turn off for me. These characters said one thing, yet did another over and over again.

I really wanted to like this book, but there were too many crazy plot lines and actions that made it hard. The characters were a bit over the top and it took a lot to get to the end.

What I loved most about this book was that it was not fast paste. The author took her time in letting us get to know the H and h from childhood to adulthood.

Hendrix did not have an easy happy childhood. He met Maddie (the next door neighbor who just moved in) when he was 8 years old and they became very good friends and eventually they realised they cannot live without each other as they got older. That was until she had to leave for College.
They were forced to separate and give each other up. Now the question is ............ Are they going to get back together or will they continue to stay away from each other? Oh and to top all of that, both of them have secrets that could destroy the second chance they might have at getting together. What will happen when those secrets come out?

Sorry people but that you have to find out for yourself, so as soon as the book is released go and find a copy and start reading to settle that curiosity you have.

WARNING!!!
Before you start reading this book get the tissues ready because you are going to need it for this one and also be prepared to have a few good laughs.

Ms Parker, I must say I cannot wait for your next book. This was one of the sweetest romances I have read in a long time.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves sweet romances.

What I liked/Didn’t Like: WOW!! Grab a box of tissues and a comfy blanket this one reals you in and doesn’t let you go till the end. It is an emotional rollercoaster of a story. Both Characters in this book were so real it was like looking into a friend’s life and being right there with them. AWESOME job JE Parker. Keep up the good work.

I read an ARC copy of this.

As I browsed through the reviews I see that I'm in the minority with my low rating. I thought that the first 40% of the book was wonderful. We got to see how their story began and how deep their relationship got. What made me not like this book was how both of them acted after everything went down. I understand why it went the way it did. However, it was too much. The way they both acted towards everybody was horrible. I understand that she was hurt but it was like it went too far and nobody in real life is that bad after a breakup. The only thing that saved this from getting a 1 star was the fact that everything worked out for them in the end. I did enjoy her writing though and I would be willing to read other stuff by her. I just couldn't get past their behavior.

This was less of a story and more of an epic. Started with two young people who found a lifelong love affair with each other, even when they were separated. This epic had angst and some of the best quality writing I've read in a long time. Completely memorable in every way.
One might thing it was a terrible reason to try to destroy their relationship, once you find out why, but the author addresses it. These are two young people who make mistakes. Hendrix didn't have a quality parent to help him grow and make good decisions, so he ran on pure emotion. When the two were reunited, pure sparks came off the page. You felt every emotion, every decision, every piece of the story. I can't wait to read more of this author
