Successful, ambitious, and vivacious, Philomena knows just what to do when confronted with a new challenge. Inheriting her ancestral homestead seems like a dream come true but she is unprepared for the changes it will bring not only her life and her heart? Can a heritage of love, truth and faith bring wondering hearts home to find what they didn’t know they had lost?
Danni Roan, born in rural western Pennsylvania, has always loved the country life. Her first work published under her real name, Paula Liddle-Beem, is a collection of folk essays about childhood in the lush, green mountains of PA. Being a teacher of English and English as a Second Language for the past twelve years has only inspired Danni’s love of writing Western Historical Fiction. After receiving her Masters of Education in Teaching English as a Foreign Language she determined to indulge her passion for fiction writing. Teaching both in the USA and abroad has exposed Danni to a wide range of people from all walks of life and she tries to capture that unique character in her work.
Philomena has inherited a ranch in Wyoming. Once she gets there from NY she loves the place. It has been a long time since she was last there. She meets her cousin, Kade and together they make a dude ranch. Phil finds some letters in the attic and starts reading about the old homestead and her late relatives.
Chase Haven, is a friend of Kade's he is here to help be the top wrangler. Can he rebuild what his family lost years ago? Can he stop himself from falling for Phil?
A lovely story of love and new beginnings. The characters were fun to read about wand watch them come together and start new things.
I have been so excited about this new series, and was not disappointed. Although I found the premise of the book to be really excellent, the story seemed abbreviated and choppy in places. I didn’t have the opportunity to get to know Chase and Phil as much as I would have liked, I felt like we saw very little of their relationship developing. Since there are more books, I’m hoping we see them again very soon!
I really liked this book. It is a modern Western and a clean romance. It had a good storyline and was believable.
Philomena lived in New York City. She was very successful at her job and was at the top of her field in marketing. But something was missing from her life. She felt her life was meaningless. When she suddenly inherited a ranch, she quit her job and moved to Wyoming. She was determined to change it into a dude ranch. Her life changes completely when she gets to the ranch. She meets her cousin, Kade, and immediately draws him into her plans. He is happy to be included and together they forge ahead. When they need a wrangler, Kade suggests his friend, Chase. Phil and Chase feel an immediate connection, but there is a big problem. Of course, there is a happy ending. This is a romance after all. I felt the problem was solved a little too quickly, but I did really enjoy the book.
This book is complete unto itself, but it is the first book of a long series. Several of the books are already in my library and all of the books are on KU. I am going to binge read through the entire series. Why don't you join me? It will be lots of fun. Lets see who gets to the end first.
The setting was a sweet ranch being updated as a vacation destination. I loved the country feel. But the characters didn't really engage me. Why are the main guy and main girl always good-looking? And I didn't appreciate the sensual descriptions of their body parts. Though not actually sexual, it was a little too spicy for my taste. The spiritual thread was nice, especially Chase's refusal to engage in sex before marriage. However, Philomena's conversion left much to be desired--even 1 mention of Jesus Christ would have been nice. There were enough engaging, well-written scenes to keep me reading to the end, but there were several grammatical errors. There were not enough errors to make me quit but enough to pull me out of the story several times.
I liked the plot but I saw the potential for so much more and was disappointed.
The story is wonderful! It’s the old west come to life on a guest ranch; it’s finding ones roots; and, it’s about getting to know yourself better. Philomena worked in high-profile marketing where she had found success in business after struggling with education and life itself. Now alone she receives notice that she has inherited an old homestead out west in Wyoming. In the old attic she finds a trunk of letters from her ancestors and those alone bring change to the Broken J and her life was once again renewed when she met her cousin Kade and his oldest friend, Chase Haven. Opening a drawer, finding a Bible and seeking truth, becomes her new life. Thanks for great writing.
This is a Christian contemporary romance set in Wyoming. City girl inherits Ranch, local cowboy comes home to work. One is a believer, the other is not.
The story is laced with letters from the past and stories of the ranch’s heritage. Christian romance isn’t my preferred genre. However, this book is neither preachy nor didactic. It focuses on Christian faith as the path to a meaningful and peaceful life.
There is a strong hint at another romance in the series. Now I just have to find it!!!
3.5 stars A nice little story by a new author. She included everything that goes into a western romance and it trotted on nicely. The story was typical western romance but it also included faith. I liked that even though it just scratched the surface. I'll keep Danni Roan in mind and in the future I'll read the 2nd book in the series and see how she has grown as a writer. I pray she does grow.
Philomena inherits a ranch from her Uncle. So because she has been successful in business, she decides to quit her job and take over the ranch. She finds it very dilapidated and run down. She gets help from her cousin to fix it up to be a dude ranch. She hires a cook, who has cooked school lunches for years, her cousin hires Chase Haven, a friend of his that has vowed never to return to Wyoming.
Chase is down on luck, trying to pay for his horses by working rodeos. He jumps at the chance to come to the Broken J and bring his animals so they are all in one place, and they will be used to teacch riding, and trail ride, and he hopes to keep breeding his stock.
Read this book to see what happens when Philomena and Chase are attracted to each other. It is a very interesting set of circumstances that lead to the conclusion of this story.
For a new writer/new series I still rate it a 5. Very worth it! The story was strong, charter's developed nicely, believable interactions. I think with the lunch of this new series , "Whispers in Wyoming" , that Wyoming's tourist board might want a heads up! I for one will be making vacation plans.
What a delightful read!!! As a farm girl, I enjoyed the extra details as they got the ranch ready for guests; the kind of tack, the trimmings on the house, the layout of the barn. I really liked the progress of Phil's spiritual life. More details there would have been nice. I am looking forward to read the rest of this series.
Manhattan marketing whiz inherits the family ranch and discovers her family background. Along the way she finds her faith, friends, and love in a sparkling romance. I'm looking forward to the next book from this author.
Up to her usual standards. Really enjoy this authors books. Thry are real and down to earth. Easy to get involved in. I feel like I am naling an investmentbeach one I read.
Danni is a very kind person and it comes through in her books. I loved everything about this story and envisioned what it would be like to be the heroine. I love horses but never had one so I could relate to Phil's joy of being on the ranch. A good, warm story.
I loved going back to the Broken J!! (From the Cattleman's Daughter series) It was wonderful to know the Ballards were still there and that Phil is returning it to it's former glory. Can't wait to read more in this series.
I gave this work 5 stars because Danni' s characters are not perfect but very much human! Her Christian characters hold true to their faith in spite of temptation to do otherwise and their lives near fruit without being preachy!
I enjoyed reading the story. A good mixture of drama and entertainment. It was very enjoyable to me and I am looking forward to reading more of your stories. Thank you for writing it.
The greatest things about this author's books are the unfolding history of the family, their ranch, and an abiding love of horses, sunshine, and sweet romance. Even when faced with hardships their faith in God gives them the courage to overcome. I can always depend on these books for a good read.
I have read several books in this series so I really enjoyed going back to where it all began. Philomena's story is beautiful and I love her connection to her history. I can't wait to read the rest of this wonderful series.
Phil decides to leave hustle of New York for Wyoming and her inherited Broken J Ranch. She remembers happy visits to grandparents home with parents. What can she do with the dusty, broken down farm??? A city girl in the country???
I’m now in world of commerce and I’m feeling like it’s not enough. When I get a letter saying I have inherited a ranch, I feel like I’m getting a chance to change and I’m excited to see what happens next!
Danni Roam sure knows how to write a story that you don't want to put down and you don't want it to end. It is also a clean Christian book, that is awesome for all ages.
I'm so enjoying this series and getting to know the characters. I loved Chase and Phil's story. She's a big city girl and he's a country cowboy. I so enjoyed watching these two get to their HEA. A great read.
