Fairy tales are simply tales, told and re-told, but changed over time.

It has been four months since Maggie learned the dark truth behind the tale of the Princess and the Pea and freed Princess Lindy from the cursed Emerald. Lindy is now back in the past where she belongs, queen of her tiny Scandinavian country, and Maggie is a fully reformed ex-stalker.

Except … she can’t

I fell deep, head-over-heels in love with Book 1 and was so excited to continue on right where that one left off. Be sure to read this series in order to get the full effect.

Maggie and her brother, Tanner, are very likable and adventurous characters. Although teenagers, they do care for one another and I love how they really have each other's backs throughout this book. This story goes back and forth between modern times and the past, just as the other one did, and I love that process because I

This is an action packed fairytale retelling with adventure and romance! Your mind is constantly trying to figure out what will happen next. And although it takes place mostly in the 1600’s, it also houses advanced physics so it makes it harder to guess what will happen. That hooked me in because I couldn’t guess! I was captivated!

Maggie and Tanner (Maggie’s brother) end up going to visit where their dead mother grew up. Only to find her very much alive. She is a shell of her former self. When

This is the second book in the Altered Stones series and I would highly recommend reading the first book before you attempt this one. I didn't have time to read the first book so the author was kind enough to send me a summary of the first book to read, which helped me out a lot but I could still tell I was missing out on things- most especially the connection with the characters.

Things started out a bit slow for me. I think that may have been partially the problem of not reading the first book

Topaz Reign is another great fairytale re-telling from Teresa Richards. It was a really great adventure and a very fun, exciting read. I really love these characters. Lindy is so brave and strong, Maggie too. As I mentioned in my review for Emerald Bound, this author writes teenagers very well. I appreciated how real the girls were. There were so many enjoyable twists and turns that I could not turn pages fast enough to see what was going to happen next. I loved the mystery of the "pearl" and ...more

Wow, I really loved this book! The whole thing is great! It has great plot, great characters, great action and adventure, and a touch of romance. It really has everything you could want in a book!

I loved Lindy and Maggie. The book switches back and forth between the two and for most of the book, they are not even in the same time period. It's so great! I love the way that Maggie was not able to get Lindy out of her thoughts, and how she was able to check on how things were going with her through

Calling all fairy tale fans: here is a book for you! Book one of this series—Emerald Bound—gives us an interpretation of the princess and the pea. Topaz Reign continues this tale and introduces the story of Thumbelina.

Lindy—the princess who slept on an enchanted emerald, or “pea”—is back in her native land and time. As she tries to learn how to lead her country, a topaz that grants its wearer unmatched beauty and power threatens to overthrow her family, country, and even the world. With help

Author Teresa Richards has written another action packed and plot twisting story in her novel Topaz Reign, book two in the Altered Stone series. This is another exhilarating fairytale involving another precious stone. Excellently written and filled with fantastic characters and excellent plot line, this fast paced and thrilling story will leave readers at the edge of their seats, wanting and coming back for more. The action and adventure are enticing and the romance is sweet and real. A ...more

I loved meeting these wonderful characters from EMERALD BOUND again! Second books in a series sometimes don't satisfy me, but this one was great--you could read it without having read the first one, because the author does an amazing job of reminding us what happened in the first book without dumping it all out on the first page. (but you'll enjoy this one more if you have read the first one, because the characters are so likeable).

I especially loved seeing Lindy go back to the seventeenth

Although I was a little lost for the first half of the book, I was able to fill in blanks until the story made since. I believe, that had I read book one first, I would have been more connected to the characters. I think a few extra paragraphs leading in to each character could have set up a better background explanation of the characters helping to create a more cohesive story line for people just entering the world without knowledge of the other books. With all that being said, I loved the ...more

I'm the author, so I'm a bit biased, but I wanted to tell you a bit about Topaz Reign. This book follows the characters introduced in Emerald Bound, and adds some new characters as well. We see what has happened in the months and years following the events in Emerald Bound, and main characters Maggie and Lindy are brought together again, quite unexpectedly. Sibling relationships, friendships, and romantic relationships are tested and explored. And, best of all, a new fairy tale character comes ...more

I enjoyed Emerald Bound and was excited to be able to read another story with those characters in it. I also love fairy tales especially ones with a new twist. Lindy is back in her own time and struggling with the roles of a queen. Maggie and her brother get pulled into another search for a gem. This time it is a topaz with the gift of beauty. I liked the pacing of this story. The questions of what will happen next start off from the beginning and I couldn't put the book down because I needed to ...more

I have been anxiously awaiting this second book ever since I read the first one, emerald bound. I loved being sucked back into Maggie and Lindy's worlds again. This second book did not disappoint (as second books often do), I was captured from the very beginning jumping back and forth between story lines flawlessly with a great wrap up and conclusion that has left me again wanting more. Don't miss out on yet another great retelling of an under represented fairy tale!

I read this book over a weekend trip. I loved that I was able to continue along the story of characters I grew to love in Emerald Bound. The story was so exciting that I didn't mind reading for hours on end. I loved the battles and the love stories that were weaved in. I highly recommend this book to young adults and not so young adults alike!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I read the first in this series and really enjoyed the twist on the classic fairy tale "The Princess and the Pea". This continues with the same character with a different fairy tale twist. I liked it.
I give this one four stars. I can recommend for teens and up.

4.5 Stars! Enjoyable read!

I really enjoyed this second book. That characters are relatable and funny. It is well written and the story moves at a good pace. Can't wait to read more from this author.

Maggie is back in present time with Lindy in the past. Maggie is constantly checking history on Lindy when one day she finds it changed. She is alarmed and Lindy’s brother goes back to find out what is going on. Turns out there is another altered stone that is changing history. Maggie and her brother go to another country to investigate what is going on. They find something there they never expected. They are then sucked into another time to help turn history back to the way it should be and ...more

I love fairy tales but I'm always on the search for something slightly different. If a book can pull me in like a classic fairy tale and yet still leave me guessing, then I love it even more. Topaz Reign in one of those books. When I found out it takes the classic story of Thumbelina, but gives it a twist, I knew it was going to be something unique and fun.

Before you jump in to Topaz Reign, you should probably read Emerald Bound first. Both books are in the Altered Stones series by Teresa

Teresa Richards writes YA, but loves anything that can be given a unique twist. She grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, got a degree in Speech Pathology from Brigham Young University, then moved to the east coast for a little adventure. A little adventure turned into a long one, and she spent the next fifteen years living just outside New York City.

Now she's settled somewhere between coasts
