Janus — the man-made gateway to the stars, an immense, multilayered sphere orbiting the sun far out in the solar system — the last hope for humankind as they seek to escape a dying Earth, but only if they can afford to pay the price demanded by the Ultra-conglomerates, who own most things and control everything.

The Janus Enigma offers a twisty, intriguing blend of sci-fi, dystopia, and thriller. Calder is a trouble-shooter for hire in the Outer Levels of Janus, with a past he's walked away from and a present that's going to take all his contacts and all his skills to stay alive in. When one of the most influential women on Janus hands him a missing person to track and an exorbitant fee to do it, Calder's instinct is to be wary - but even he didn't suspect just how far down the rabbit hole the case woul ...more

William Dudley takes us on an awesomely gritty sci fi action ride in The Janus Enigma. Calder is a bounty hunter on the Janus Station, a travel gate owned and operated by the rich and powerful and riddled with crimelords. When he takes a job to track down a kid, he finds more trouble than he’s looking for. I loved Calder and the depth of the locations in this book, as well as the crazy twists. This one’s great for my fellow sci fi nuts out there!

Through nuclear war and environmental degradation, Earth has been all but destroyed. Seeking new homes, humanity has taken to the stars using a marvel of engineering: the Janus Gate. But Janus is also a colony in its own right, its concentric levels home to a full cross-section of humanity. Here, powerful ultra- ...more

I got this ARC from BookGobbler. For the most part, I thought this was a pretty good story. The cover is bright and reminds me of the authors multiple descriptions of Janus. Janus is described so many times it becomes monotonous, as well as the nuclear blast that started Earth's decline. I mean, I like some back story, but not over and over. The story started out slow, but picked up. Sunny and Calder are a plutonic team. Sunny is a bit crazy, probably due to childhood trams, but I really liked h ...more

William R. Dudley was born and raised in the Midlands of England.

After a career totally involved with words and communication, first as a teacher of English and then as a broadcast producer, journalist and editor in both radio and television, retirement finally gave him the time to achieve a long-held ambition and turn his hand to writing fiction. ‘The Janus Enigma’ is his first novel.
