A comet and a little magic

A very fast paced read, or I loved it so much I was reading it as fast as I can non stop. A young lass abused by her uncle and a new Laird still grieving over the death of his wife five years before, meet a strange woman who gives them both a message linked to the comet that appears that night.
Lots of giggles with two little boys and their Da's wonderful stories brings love into four people's lives.
Recommend Read!❤️

What a ride this one is! MS Campbell is an ultimate storyteller for historical Scottish romances. This one is no exception. Although a short prequel to Medieval Outlaws series, the plot is new and well thought out and the characters are well developed and very likeable. I loved Cristy and laughed at some of her antics. The romance with Brochan is just right and believable. I highly recommend for those who enjoy their historical romances to have fiesty strong females along with solid heros. If that's you, you are sure to enjoy this one.

The Five Missing Coos

Set in Dumfries, Scotland in 1211, the book begins with Brighde, a mystic and tavern wench thinking about “the star” and “knowing” that two specific people will enter the tavern that night, one a man, the other a woman. The man enters almost immediately, Brochan Macintosh, the new laird, who has inherited his uncle’s rundown tower house. He is a widower with twin sons, and has a husband and wife servants. He doesn’t stay long at the tavern as the tower needs considerable work to make it habitable. The woman, Cristy Moffat comes to the tavern later with her five male cousins. Each of the cousins has reived a cow from Macintosh and tonight it is Cristy’s turn. However, matters don’t go according to plan as Brochan has been told that it is more likely that his five missing coos have been reived rather than wandering off, so he buckles on his sword and goes out to keep watch. Cristy gets side-tracked when she catches sight of “the star”, a comet, and watches it, mesmerised, and Brochan seizes her. After that life gets rather interesting at the Macintosh Keep.

This is a tale that is predictable as to the outcome, after all, it is a romance and all romances have a HEA. It is the getting there that makes or breaks a story, and in this case I am ambivalent. I had noted all the five-star reviews for Campbell’s books and read that she is a best-selling USA Today author, so I was expecting a great reading experience and I am not sure I got it. The premise of the story is a good one and the writing and editing well-done, but I felt something lacking. I think part of it is a lack of real tension in a story where there should be some, especially after Cristy is captured, and it seemed as though the story is merely a vehicle for the erotic scenes, which are well-done, but not what I buy a book for. As a character, Brochan was underplayed, with Cristy being written as the stronger of the two. The twin boys are adorable (although much too mature for their age), but on the whole, this is only an okay read for me.

Fast pace, fun, exciting, grabs your attention from the first page. It is a story about a young lady that has been abused by the uncle she lives with and a man who lost his wife years before. They meet a strange lady who is serving beer in a keep, she tells them a story about a comet that will change their lives forever. This is one author that knows how to draw her readers in with a wonderful talent for story telling that hooks you from the first page.

Both Cristy and Brochan have a sad story to tell, it really broke my heart at all these two have been through and are still dealing with. It depends on how you look at it, either it will be Cristy and Brochan worse day of their life or the best they will ever have when Cristy steals a cow and gets caught by Brochan. He has is own troubles trying to raise twins without a mother. He decides he is going to do a trade but things do not go as planned which makes him rethink what he was thinking to start with. What follows is a wonderful delightful story with a twist on romance that makes you smile and laugh as well as a little cheering and maybe a bad word or two.

I really love this authors writing style, her humor and the way her mind works. It is a delightful story that grabbed my attention from the first page until the end. I really didn’t want it to end. The plot is wonderful with wonderful likable characters that you come to love. I enjoyed watching them work through issues and find a love like they have never known. Each has to get through some very trying times and learn how to deal with each other as well as trust the other. I know who ever picks this up will just love being taken back in time watching these two beat around the bush and find love.

The Reiver is a prelude to The Medieval Outlaws Series and will keep to entranced from the beginning to end. These. characters were charming and very likeable.I like strong female leads and Cristy definitely leads this story and her attachment t To change and his boys is understandable after the life she has led. Her abusive uncle and cousins have really made her life hard. When she is caught stealing Brochan's cows and held hostage by him she is amazed that family life can be so enjoyable. Brochan who is widowed spends alot of time fighting his attraction to Cristy but it is understandable in the end that they can't fight it forever. The story of two lonely people who have been just getting by and find joy and happiness together is why this book works so well. Great family values and loyalty throughout are refreshing. The twin boys are a great tension reliever and a spot if humor throughout the book. Glynnis Campbell has done a great job in making these characters enticing and you want the HEA for them even though you are expecting it.

I got this book as an amazon deal, intrigued by the blurb, I gave it a try.
Medieval romance is not my favorite as many words are not easy for me to get to understand, English is not my natural language but as it was short, i gave it a try.
And I loved it.
It was short, with few actions, but it was entertaining with a good bunch of characters.
After as a non historical connoisseur, I thought the author did a great job, using to me only terms and words from this time period.
I loved the main protagonists, Cristy a nice lass with a good heart but raised by the wrong people, once she understands she is more than she was told all her life, she is ready to take matter in hands. Brochan, I do supposed is not the usual laird for this time being, he cares for those who are his., and would never treat them badly.
If you had the interesting opening with a kind of fairy, the cute set of twins and the two servants, it was a very lovely tale with its adorable and smiling moments.

Some authors just know how to grab a reader on page one and have the characters and story flow smoothly keeping the reader turning the page. Ms Campbell is one of those authors. This is the first book of hers that I have read and I found it hard to put down. It flowed beautifully with characters and a story that were heart warming. I was a very easy to read story, filled with joy and humor and great morals and unusual for a historical romance, no real violence. The story did have a couple of sex scenes and as usual this reviewer skipped them but it did not impact my enjoyment of the story and I will certainly be reading more from this author. I would highly recommend this story for anyone looking for a lovely read.

I loved this book. This was the first time I have read this author, but it will not be my last. It is the story of two neighboring clans, and one is taught to steal cattle. The hero is the handsome, strong, and noble neighbor, who is a widow , with two twin boys. The other neighbor is abusive and sends his niece to steal the cattle. The rest is great reading. I loved the story, and how heartwarming it was Neither of them knew how much they were missing ,from their lives. The boys were Adorable. It just needed an epilogue. 5 Stars. Some steam, but not graphic , and went with the story. I loved the cook, and her husband. A feel good story, that makes you smile.

Pure delight! What a charming read! I really enjoyed it. Glynnis Campbell knows how to capture a reader's interest right away. A lady thief trying to impress her cousins by stealing their neighbor's cows, the neighbor laird, who is a handsome widower with two lively twin sons, a harsh uncle, a mystic tavern wench who predicts a star will determine the destiny of two who make the right decisions, what more can one want? A short novella but such a satisfying read. Highly recommend.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Easy-to-read; Wonderful characters; Entertaining; Romantic; Funny

The Reiver is a heartwarming story that really hits all of the feels. The main character Cristy is a girl who lost everything and what she has left is an abusive uncle and 5 male cousins who think she's worthless. Until one night she is caught trying to steal a cow her life turns upside down and she now is being held hostage by Brochan Macintosh. Cristy is left to wonder if her uncle will come get her in exchange for stolen cows or if life with Brochan is what she really needs.

The Reiver

Aah lass you have done it again and it warms my wee heart. I love ,love this book and only wanted more. The Macintosh clan knows how to love, laugh, cry, and get to your heart. I would love to see it become a novel with the boys growing up to be honorable young men and the babes Christy wants to give Bracken. Overlook my spelling but I almost cried when I found out about Christys back ground. Keep up the good work and bless you.

This was a fun highland romance. Cristy has been living with her abusive uncle and cousins since her parents died and tonight it's her turn to steal one of Brochan's cows. Instead, she gets captured by him. While she is with him they can't help but feel attracted to each other. And you gotta love adorable twin boys!!!

I loved read The Reiver by Glynnis Cambell. This is the first romances that I've read that takes place in historical times. I fell in love with the setting, characters and storyline. It was a fun and easy read. I loved how the wench at the tavern had tole both of them the stars or comet would change their lives and they both questioned it. In the end just that happened.

Nothing better than a story with a moral to it!

I found myself quite entranced with this tale. It is very representative the time period. I really appreciate the multiple layers of information presented. Truly believable development of relationship dynamic between characters also.

Brochan and Christy are so great together, but I think the twins steal the story! Two lonely hearts come together as a comet streaks across the night sky. Christy's family has treated her so badly her need to be cherished is palpable and she is just the person to warm Brochan's frozen heart.

For me, this novella was quite perfect. The story wasn't rushed; the romance was both slow burn and sizzling; the historical setting was lovely and so was the story. Naturally it was very well written - this author is fabulous. ❤

I really enjoyed the story, a lass that needs to prove herself to her cousins. A hero that is a gentle man with 5 yr old twins and no mother. I was sorry the book wasn't longer, it would have been wonderful as a full novel.
It is totally worth the read!!

In the summer of 1211 in Dumfries Scotland Brochan Macintosh can’t figure out where five of his cattle have gone and figures that someone has reived them. Cristy Moffat is Brochan’s neighbor along with her cousins comes to an inn and tavern intending to reive Brochan cows. When she is waylaid by a mysterious woman telling her that her stars are about to transform. Fate hangs in the balance her fate. Cristy is a little creeped out but decides that she will do it she will steal Brochan’s cows. When she gets to Brochan lands she notices a curious star with a tail which causes Brochan to catch her. What will Brochan do with Cristy a reiver only out to steal his cattle, and his heart possibly will he return her or keep her?
This little novella by Ms. Glynnis Campbell really just amazed me. Sure usually I don’t like reading novellas because of the length and there isn’t enough story to satisfy me but this isn’t the case in this story there is enough to further the plot and the characters are amazingly fully developed even though I still would have liked to see a little more character development and some background into their lives but really there was enough. Brochan at first scared me a little and didn’t seem like a great hero to like but as I read further he just made me smile. What a great hero he turned out to be strong, courageous, noble and chivalrous really what’s not to like? I even managed to like Cristy the beauteous spirited heroine sure it kind of bothered me that Brochan didn’t trust her but then again the relationship developed a little fast. Even though the story moved too fast I enjoyed it and will definitely read more by Ms. Campbell!

New author for me and I enjoyed the story and the book all around but it was missing that something. I think that Cristy was overshadowed as a character and stronger written than Brochan and I think it felt off because of that. He's a Laird of his keep and she was a stronger character than he was. It was missing something and I dont know what and I know another reviewer or 2 mentioned the same thing. The little boys were also only 5 years old and they seemed way older like 12. I felt for Cristy's plight but in a way she was so accepting and felt she deserved to be treated how she was. I think the character development was just spent too much on one character when there are clearly 2 MCs. Brochan's character shined through very little and I could feel he wanted to but was held back. Enjoyable but just an ok read for me.
