Whatever happens in Jamaica can be life changing….
Lisa Miller has a wonderful life while her sister and their friends have been searching for love in the wildest of places. She invites them to join her in Jamaica where she plans to share heart-wrenching news, and hopes the pain in her life will give them a reason to stop taking theirs for granted. Renee Moore is a best-selling author with an insatiable appetite for men. She plans on spending her vacation, engaging in a fling that will give her reason to exhale. Unfortunately, she soon finds out it’s not always sunny in paradise. Attorney Nadine Hill has been living in denial for far too long. By the end of the trip, she needs to decide if she’s going to continue to live for everyone else or take a chance at her own happiness no matter the consequences. Kayla Sparks has always dreamed of being a preacher’s wife. When a handsome minister walks into her life, she thinks God has answered her prayers. Angie Daniels did a wonderful job is showing the reader that the sum of four parts (four ladies so very different) made a wonderful whole. Renee, Nadine, Kayla and Leslie had history. Renee and Leslie were biological sisters and Nadine and Kayla were childhood friends. Life and circumstances had dealt them devastating blows. They were not ready for the blow that would come while on vacation.

What would be revealed while the ladies were vacationing? They would come face to face with Renee's issues with promiscuity (and how it almost cost her life) and that Kayla was holding out for a married man (as if his being a Pastor wasn't enough). Nadine would reveal that she was wrestling with her sexuality and Leslie was dealing with a reoccurrence of ovarian cancer. Each would come to realize a number of things:
1. Sisterhood is a powerful force (it is needed to thrive in life),
2. Close friends boost your immunity (who we put around us help when we are going through),
3. Sistah Circles create that space that allows us to stop, let go and breathe and
4. This circle allows for love not "because of" but "in spite of" differences.

Each character supported/lifted the other without diminishing herself. Yes there were disagreements. Yes there times when it almost came to blows. That is the beauty and the ugliness of the bond. Each was able to show the other of what she was capable of being. It wasn't always pretty....but they knew that they could count on it.

This was an ok read! Each character had issues that to me was not dealt with! Far fetched scenario that NFL players staying at Holiday Inn, no! Renee very promiscuous, Kayla insecure, made a fool of by a womanizing preacher, Nadine struggling with her sexuality not willing to be honest with herself. Lisa carrying around a secret that should've been shared 3 years ago! Poor editing, no real development of characters, they really never got it together for the better. Poor Clayton looking for love in all the wrong places! Overall just an ok read.

Lisa invites her sister Renee and two longtime friends- Kayla and Nadine on a trip to Jamaica because she has a secret that she needs to share with the ladies. The books main character is Renee, whom is hot- to- trot , selfish, immature and seems to not understand boundaries. Unfortunately, her lack of concern for others will bring her face to face with danger on this trip. One would have thought that Lisa would be the main character since she is the reason they are on the trip , but for some reason the author did not spend enough time developing this character throughout the story. However, Lisa's health condition is a major part of the story. Kayla, is an overweight, single mother, suffering from low self-esteem, involved in an affair with the married Pastor of her church. Her pitiful character will make you want to slam the book shut many times. Nadine, is keeping a secret, of a "taboo" topic from her friends, for fear they might judge her or reject her, which forces her to pretend to be something or someone she is not. Interestingly, Nadine is the only character that shows any "growth" by the end of the book. There is actually a sequel to this book titled, "Trouble Loves Company" that is a real page turner. Fortunately, I read that book several years ago, because if I had read THIS book first I probably would have not been excited to read another book by Ms. Daniels. There is plenty of sex and drama in this book but in my opinion not much of a captivating "story". If you read it be sure to follow up with the sequel which is very good.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🇯🇲🧳

My thoughts: 🔖Page 305 of 419 Chapter 57 Renee - I'm enjoying this one, there are a few spelling errors and continuity issues but it's the type of book where the story is so good you don't care it says fight instead of right or when RD became KD.

This was a fun story. The characters were far from perfect but they were very interesting so even though I disagreed with their points of view I couldn't turn away from the scenes. The story was predictable at parts but I still had little idea what would happen outside the big storyline. Each character felt genuine despite the drama and brought something real to the table. There were continuity issues, and the medical aspects were crazy, the author seemed unaware of what "total hysterectomy" was as well as how they treated the condition a character dealt with in the past. I don't know why this happens but some books are poorly written I love them anyway and others will get abandoned after a few grammatical errors. This story was well-written but needs a re-edit, here are the errors I saw but didn't affect my interest:
❌️My sister glanced over at the couple to our fight, who were giving us funny looks.
❌️ “Hey, your crazy bitch!”
If you can get through that without popping a nerve you should be able to get through this book.

Recommend to others: Sure, but only if you like a good messy girlfriend drama. I've downloaded the rest of the series.

2.5 ✨

My initial reaction to this book is that it felt much older than 2017. There are references to house phones, pagers, and Calgon body products just to name a few instances that date the writing. In rereading the Goodreads summary, I noticed the note that this was originally published in 2007.

We get four POVs, but the narrative voices didn’t feel distinctly different from one another. It took a while to get my footing on who was who and their back stories. This book is a bunch of mess and vibes when four friends Nadine, Renee, Lisa, and Kayla decide to take a trip to Jamaica together. Nadine is exploring her sexuality, Renee is hyper-sexualized and sleeps with anyone, Kayla is insecure and passive, and Lisa is hiding a major secret. You get highs and lows throughout the trip is all I can say without spoilers!

The writing was okay, plot a bit repetitive, and decisions being made were frustrating; however, this was entertaining. As a fast reader (average time to complete a book is 2 days) it took over a week to finish this. I’ll consider reading the other books in the series at some point because there are loose ends I’m curious about.

Whose Sistahs????

This book promises a lot but fails to deliver. It's unbelievable that black women were painted in such stereotypical fashions, especially by a black female author: a sexual slut, an overweight woman in love with the pastor, an in the closet gay woman with a son and the good "sistah" who didn't tell her sister or sistahs the truth about her health. All four of them had self-esteem issues. Of course, the black men in their lives were even worse: sexual predators, physically and verbally abusive, self centered egomaniacs.

Not only was this book disappointing but left me extremely angry. It's a shame because this could have been the start of a good series. Nothing made me want to read the other books. The book also had some editing problems.

Loved It!

This story just gave me life. The four sistahs paths were definitely filled with a lot of highs and lows. Their characteristics were spot on when it came to expressing emotions to one another. I love the adventures, I love the rawness ness of their personas, I love their dependency on each other. I love that no matter what happens, whether good or bad that sisterhood remains intact. Great Read

I thought this book was great! The characters were flawed and real! I couldn't put it down! A real page turner. Just enough drama to be realistic and just spicy enough to keep me wanting more! Great read!

Friends

These are four of the craziest Ladies.

Renee is on her 3rd marriage and still looking for Real Love.

Kayla is having an affair with her Minister, Reverend Leroy Brown. If Kayla loved herself, she would leave him alone and move her membership.

Nadine has a secret that she cannot share with her friends, because she cannot admit it to herself.

Lisa has booked a vacation for the friends in Jamaica. Lisa needs to tell them something because it may be the last time they will be together.

"What happens in Jamaica stays in Jamaica". That is Renee's motto and she tries to live up to it each day.

I enjoyed reading this book. I wanted Kayla to "Get A Clue" about Rev Leroy.

This is a 4 Book series and in the second book I hope Kayla gets smart and kicks the Minister to the curb.

"In the Company of My Sistahs" by Angie Daniels would be better titled, "Renee's Sexcapades." Author would make a good Penthouse magazine writer. It would have been okay, if the bed scene with one guy was not identical to the next one, and the one after that. Tiresome.

I wonder if the author made the main character (the one with the most chapters told in her voice) so repulsive? I also wonder if real life, educated, school teachers have that foul of a mouth. I know people with foul mouths, and I know teachers, but the teachers are more respectable. Renee was unattractive and not believable as a real life person.

The other three Sistahs, were relatable, likable. The novel was poorly edited. See my comments.

Lisa has cancer and it's not the first time but will it be there first time. She thinks an island get away with hee sisters and best friends is the best way to finally be truthful and tell them whats going on, but as Angie Daniel's story unfold the door to each woman's life is opened. We learn of the secrets , different personalities, and out of all all of them you will have a character that you will not like but feel a little bad for her. You will have characters you will be able to relate to because something in your closet is similar. Will these women survive the madness of Getaway? It's definitely worth reading

Great Book

This book was deep and touched on a lot of issues women face. Unknown to each other, every one of these ladies had serious personal issues they were battling. After 20 years, the lack of true communication between them was surprising until you understood each of their demons. It reminded me, that as women, we need to do more than keep surface level relationships with those ladies we consider close friends and sistahs. We don't have to condone or agree with all of their decisions, but we do need to be present and truly supportive.

Sisters of a lifetime

Can you say tough pil to swallow. Lots of compacted emotions. You have unresolved childhood trauma. You have insecurities. Infidelity and a host of others things. That make you want to grab a bottle of wine and exhale. Lisa, Renee, Nadine and Kayla. Girls to the end. Dealing with life and relationships. With a life changing illness yet to be revealed. It was the setting a girl's trip in Jamaica that would be unforgettable.

Angie Daniels definitely takes the reader on an emotional journey. This story explores the lives of four female friends who couldn't be more different but yet they remain friends. They have experienced some real crippling rejection, hurt, fear, and pain in their lives and relationships. The story held my attention, but I was disappointed in the fact that we see the consequences of their emotional disfunction but not one resolution.

Great read! I’m glad Renee decided to give her husband another chance. Hopefully she’s learned several lessons z Kayla needs to let Leroy go & find the happiness she truly deserves. Nadine has to continue to live her life for herself and not others. Hopefully they continue to get along and celebrate Lisa/

Ah.... The Twists

I am enjoying the Sistahs series. It's great to see the development of the characters and regardless of the trials and tribulations, the group of Sistahs have each other's backs. I gave 4stars because some of the dialogue was a repeat from previous books. Great job otherwise and I MUST finish the last book in this series to see the final outcome.

A great story of four different ladies, all friends embark on a “ waiting to exhale “ vacation to Jamaica. Each woman with her own set of problems looking for answers they hope this vacation will bring. A lot of secrets, a little bit raunchy but a lot of love for each other. The perfect easy, quick beach read!

Friendships

Friends have ups and downs it’s how you work together to uplift, love and join one another in times of need not just happier times. Sometimes folks confuse associated with others as to being friends.

Daniels through the eyes and voice of Renee depiction is how far and low women will hurt one another to define their friendships.

This book is about four sistahs that take a girls trip to Jamaica. The girls met while in grade school and though they have known each other for a longtime they find out a lot about each other on this trip. Lots of sexual entanglements but the girls have vowed what happens in Jamaica stays in Jamaica, and believe me a lot happens in Jamaica.

It wasn’t the worst book I read but it was far from the best. The storyline was a bit interesting but was hard to follow because of the bad writing.

In the company of my sistahs

Good story. I cried for Lisa and laughed at how stupid Kayla was over Leroy Brown and Renee was just unbelievable on all counts and Nadine needed to find herself. I would given it a higher rating if not for the language.
