This one started slow for me- although I liked the characters, there was quite a bit of internal musing and not much action beyond daily mundane life. I almost moved on to a different book, but I'm glad I stuck with it because the pace did increase as events and life got more interesting and the dynamic between Rainey and Alex deepened. There are some laugh out loud scenes as well as toe-curling kisses in between the sweet moments with Rainey's daughter, Rainey's fight to keep her clinic open, A ...more
This cute romance between two college teachers—a professor and a speech therapist—was a fun, lighthearted romantic comedy in the vein of Hallmark. There’s a bit of danger from Alex’s family past that lends some suspense to the story but it’s really the humor that had me giggling and flipping pages. I actually read the whole thing in under two hours! My favorite scene had to be the mud-phone-lost one. It was so hilarious and he deserved it so much!

Some of the kisses got a bit heavy, so more of an

Just What Makes Troublemakers So Crazy Charming, Anyway?

Maybe it was the fact that I just got back from this part of the country.

But I don’t think so.

I think it’s because somehow Pepper Basham manages to take all the things that make me cringe in books and not even care about them. You know, kisses, and tingles, and warm fuzzies, and those never-ending kisses. Did I mention the kisses? Seriously, Fred Savage didn’t have to put up with anything in The Princess Bride.

No, I’m not exaggerating. Seri

Speech pathologist Rainey Mitchell is getting over the betrayal of her ex husband and raising her small daughter. Teaching at risk students in a small Appalachian college is her heart. Dr. Alex Murdock has been sent to this small college, but wishes to be elsewhere. Dr. Murdock is also a man of secrets. He is also a charmer and a flirt. Rainey wants no part of him. But sometimes God has plans for our lives that bear no resemblance to what we want. Trusting Him to bring His will to fruition in ou ...more

I don't mean to be bossy, but ADD THIS TO YOUR TBR NOW!

Since the very first book of this series, A Twist of Faith, I have been interested in Rainey's story. Learning hers would be a "loose" retelling of North and South (Elizabeth Gaskell) AND that Rainey would be paired with Alex Murdock, an interesting if frustrating person in book 1, I was ecstatic!!! I mean, woohoo because I <3 the book & miniseries, and anything Pepper writes is a #mustread, magical romance.

Alex Murdock is adorkably charming. Y’all, this book had me laughing and just heart melting over the surprisingly sweet comments Alex makes. He’s the perfect hero. You know a complete mess, meets a girl worth knowing, gets that amazing grace from God, and turns into this adorkably charming hero.

If you don’t know what I’m taking about then you need to pick up Charming the Troublemaker. It’s stamped with Ms. Basham’s signature Brittalachin humor and warmth of family and friends.

Okay two more: #AdorkableAlex (does it count as one or two when it’s a hashtag?)

And now I flail. Because no review in the world can do justice to how funny and sassy and SWOONY and sweet this story really is. It’s just truly impossible for anyone to describe the hilarity, the heart, the KISSES that make Charming the Troublemaker so … well…charming.

Thoroughly enjoyed the second book in the Mitchell's Crossroads Series.

Alex was definitely not likable in book one. As with many of us, there is something beneath the outer surface. In addition to Alex and Rainey, it was good to have some scenes with the sarcastic Emma and Rainey's sweet daughter Sarah.

Yes, it’s entirely possible to fall in love with a fictional family, and that’s how I feel about the Mitchells. I am so glad that A Twist of Faith now has a sequel because this family just begs for more stories and time spent together, especially with Mama Mitchell. Here’s hoping for many more to come!

Those of you who have read one of Pepper's stories can sympathize - when you see the last page you sort of sigh. You might start to read the words a little bit slower just so it's not over. No more laughs, no more love interest, no more kissing scenes that make you want to go lay a big smooch on your hubby, and no more of Pepper's delightful writing! I had a HUGE book hangover when I was done reading this. I didn't even want to think about the next book I needed to read, as I wanted to continue

"He had 'flirt' tattooed all over his high-watt grin."

Rainey Mitchell knows that Dr. Alex Murdock is trouble with a capital "T". His smooth, cocky, debonair presence has Rainey scrambling to locate her own personal space. After all, they are co-workers, and she has been recruited to ingratiate him into the Communication Disorders Department at Blue Ridge University, but there is only so much suave that her poor dismantled heart can survive.

Alex Murdock has met a lot of women in his day, but the

Rainey Mitchell is heartsore and insecure over her ex-husband's betrayal yet determined to protect her daughter Sarah's heart... and hopefully her own heart as well! Despite everything Alex has been through, he is willing to keep moving forward and seeking answers to the questions that ache inside.

I more than LOVE this book!!! Pepper Basham has become a “read whatever she writes” author for me. Really, she's that good! In this book you find two people with very guarded hearts, cautiously chipping away at each other's walls. Learning to trust and love again. I'll share a couple of highlights with you. Rainey, "Who was this guy? So arrogant and yet quick to beat up himself? Such a sweetheart to her little daughter? She was beginning to find this anomaly much too intriguing for her own good. ...more

What a delightful read! With a sprinkle of sweet, a dash of suspense, and a whole shaker-full of spice, Basham’s Charming the Troublemaker is the perfect blend of everything that makes a romance spectacular! – Krista Phillips, Author of The Engagement Plot
Another winner by the talented Pepper Basham! And we're back with the wonderful Mitchell family! Loved it!

We learn a little about Rainey and Alex in the first book of the series, A Twist of Faith. This book finds their stories more fleshed out. Rainey is very wounded from her ex-husband's betrayal and Alex is trying to overcome his playboy past. As a dashingly handsome and annoyingly flirtatious male, Alex doesn't stand a chance with Rainey at first. But Alex is drawn to Rainey from the beginnin

Alex Murdock is such an charming, adorkable character. We first met him in Twist of Faith and I’m so glad that Pepper brought him back, so we could get to know him better! Under his facade of flirtatious quips, lies a wounded heart that is just crying out for someone to understand him. He has to first learn who he is in God, before he can really give his heart fully. Alex is quite the sweetheart, once you give him a chance and get to know him.

Pepper Basham is quickly becoming one of my favorite Contemporary Christian Fiction writers. I relate so well with her characters in this series. I first fell in love with her books with book one: A Twist of Faith so it wasn’t a hard decision to pick up this second book in the series.

Like the first book this one is based around characters that work together in a department of speech language pathology at a university. Which means they have taken and now teach interesting courses like phonetics.

Can flirty and sweet live in the same body? Why, yes. Yes, they can! And in the hands of Pepper Basham, they can bring you a whole lot of laughter and adorkableness, too!

It’s always dangerous to try and pick a favourite from Pepper Basham’s novels, but right now, I’m really tempted to say it’s this one. Alex Murdock has “enough . . . woman power wafting off him to upend a convent” and “enough charm to create his own Disney movie.” Not only that, but he, his mobile, and his underoos manage to cre

Once again, Pepper Basham had me laughing and tearing up with another adorable story in the Mitchell’s Crossroads series. I was delighted to be back in the Blue Ridge Mountains with the Mitchell family to watch Rainey’s story unfold. Only, it’s so much more than that. I fell in love with the whole cast of characters and wished for each of them a “Happily-Ever-After”.

Charming the Troublemaker was an absolutely wonderful story! And the audio book narration was fabulous! I enjoyed it so much.

This story is book two in the Mitchell’s Crossroads series, and I have listened to book one as well (which was also a great audio book, by the way). However, I believe readers (or listeners) can jump right in and enjoy Charming the Troublemaker even if they haven’t read book one.

So good!

After reading any of Pepper Basham's books I think it is my new favorite book. This time though, it's without a doubt my favorite book. The story in Charming the Troublemaker was so touching. It held me captive from the first line. It was a book that totally made you crack up & later on tear up a bit. It touched broken parts of my heart. It made me unroot lies & see my value in God's eyes. It really touched me in a way no other book has. It was truly a wonderful story. Thank you for the

On a scale of cotton candy to Brussels sprouts, Charming the Troublemaker by Pepper D. Basham is a Dirt Cake Brownie Trifle. Layered chocolate pudding, whipped cream, brownies, crumpled cookies make a mess of deliciousness. The gummy worms wiggling across the top seal the deal of fun.

I have fallen in love with rookie author, Pepper Basham, and her stories! I was intrigued by the glimpse we saw of Alex's true self towards the end of 'A Twist of Faith', and even more so as we learned who Alex was at his heart throughout this book. People can attempt to hide a hurting heart in a myriad ways. I really enjoyed watching Alex learn to trust . . . especially learn to trust God.
Ahh, Rainey. Her ex-husband really messed her up emotionally. She couldn't trust any guys it seemed (except for her brothers). I wish she had had a sit-down with Mama Mitchell more

Engaging. This is just one word that describes Pepper Basham’s latest release Charming the Troublemaker. Oh, I have plenty more adjectives, but this one goes first because from the start, I was engaged by the snappy dialogue, enthralled with the small town setting, and captivated by the dynamic characters. Not forgetting, this story is stamped with true Basham flair which is her unique and mesmerizing prose.

Charming the Troublemaker is the second installment from Pepper D Basham's fabulous series, Mitchell's Crossroads. Pepper is among my "must read authors" and this book does not disappoint. I felt connected to Rainey from the start. I understood her trying to move from betrayal and learning how to trust again. I loved how she interacted with Alex. I just could feel the chemistry between those two from the start. There is quite a few moments that I literally laughed out loud. Such a fun read.
