Step back in time to meet clever cave boy Arg and his Stone Age family. Its where the trouble begins! BLEUUURGH! Oh no. Krrk-Krrk is cute, but he is mega-messy. Args coat smells so BAD, it has to go! Brrr, poor Arg.

Arg, the resourceful cave boy has problems to face. Quick decisions are needed. He faces an allosaur, but uses his wits to escape. He faces a sabre-tooth tiger. He spots an ankylosaur … then the sabre-tooth tiger prepares to attack!
Yes, lots of action to catch the imagination of the young reader, and this is reflected in the sketches that accompany each page. Short sentences emphasise Arg's fear. Short chapters keep the reader wanting more.
And the language … as with Books 1 & 2 of this series, gross bodily functions that delight the young feature here too: snot, maggots, a geyser of runny vomit … and the smells!
While The Runaway Coat is Book 3 of the Dinosaur Trouble series, whether the reader has met Arg before in Books 1 & 2 does not matter. It is obvious from the introductory map that this book is about cave dwellers and Arg's family and pet are introduced on the next double page spread. No further introduction is required. The reader is straight into the problems Arg faces – the cold, his sister, his mother who throws away his smelly coat.
Kyle Mewburn and Donovan Bixley must really enjoy working together, feeding off each other's sense of humour. Here they provide appropriate action story-length and language to help children of 5 – 7 years bridge the gap between picture books and more substantial chapter books (like their Dinosaur Rescue series for the next age group).

Another cave-man gross out tale, the third in the series, with more gross out humour and more of the same in this tale. Is there a fourth? I'm not sure, but the three so far have been reasonable although I believe I have had my fill of gross out stuff for the year!
