Skin black as pitch, nails like talons…

A mysterious illness creeps through Acantha’s people—one that even the most powerful healers’ magic cannot touch. When the affliction proves to be something far more sinister and a family dies, Noora Duskbourne finds herself trapped.

Blamed by the King for the incident, Noora’s only ally in her escape from the King’s fury is Vaeros, a

I quite enjoyed this older YA read by author (and friend) Melissa Sasina. It is really hard to write a book that involves a lot of traveling well because, honestly, road trips are not always that exciting. Melissa did an excellent job carrying the tension forward, homing in on key events along the paths of her characters. And her characters are varied! I am especially a fan of the Warder, Gracen. :) The worldbuilding is also strong, with a variety of cultures, long histories, and old enmities at ...more

This latest novel by Melissa Sasina is her best yet and serves as an exciting debut into her latest series, Darker Shade of Light. A real pageturner, Lies of Light introduces us to several interesting characters, political intrigue, and a mysterious new world, all without bogging down at any point. I especially liked the names of the spells used such as Zahra's Reprisal. Having read this, I can't wait for the next entry! ...more

A very well written story. This is a bit different than her other books, but in a good way. I enjoyed reading the book and seeing the characters develop and grow. I look forward to reading more of this series. Trust me you want to check it out.

I am a long time fan of Melissa Sasina’s writing. I had been looking forward to Lies of Light since it was announced, then delved into the book as soon as I received my copy. I was unable to put it down as I entered the magical world that Melissa Sasina wove with intricate detail and heartfelt passion. For every minute element, every nuanced emotion, I was driven further into exploring this fantasy world and the journey of Noora. I loved the pacing of the book and the switching between two of th ...more

What an amazing story.

Noora and her mother Isha Duskbourne are sent to investigate a mysterious illness no other healers have been able to cure by magic and it appears to be arcane in some matter as well. Both of them are healers, but secretly they are both Maahirans as well. If anyone knew they were Maahirans it would be a death sentence for both of them.

In Cardea, they get a room at the inn. While there the inn keeper introduces her blind daughter, Evelyn. Evelyn seems to know and see so much

Lies of Light is the first book in a new fantasy series by Melissa Sasina. There is a sickness spreading that the main character—a magical healer—and her mother seek to understand and find a cure for.

I really liked Sasina’s other fantasy series, the Chronicles of Midgard, which took inspiration from Norse mythology. Lies of Light, book one of the Darker Shade of Light series, takes place in a new fantasy world with several cultures. It is mentioned in Lies of Light that there are other contine

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Melissa Sasina has always been a traveler in her own fantasy worlds. Her love for writing began in her childhood and never let up, leading to the creation of several short stories. Inspired by the words of her High School English teacher, Melissa decided to pursue her passion for the magical as an adult and has since then published two series, The Priestess Trilogy, The Ch ...more
