Just What I Wanted Today

I was looking for a fun, light romance and this one sure delivered! I felt the butterflies in my tummy as the chemistry jumped off the pages. So good!

Well, the title said it all. Kenzie needed a fake boyfriend to impress her family. She hired someone, only she got the wrong man.

Camden decided a trip with Kenzie would be a good way to stay hidden from his stalkerish ex-girlfriend. So, they got a deal.

That's the big plot. It was going well, until sub-plots appeared in the form of Mason and Lexi. The Mason's plot was ridiculous. And Lexi's plot was so short that it was stupid.

Overall, it was light and funny. So, a bonus for me on this gloomy day.

This started out so well and I couldn’t stop laughing out loud. I was enjoying this one and then, the subplots reared it’s ugly head. Mason and Lexi’s appearances just added unnecessary drama that irritated me to no end.

Initially I liked Kenzie but she quickly became annoying. She went from cute & quirky to stupid & impulsive. She literally ran away from all her problems. She was a push over & a doormat and I just wished she would have stood up for herself.

Camden was charming and such a darling but he was obviously a masochist. That’s the only explanation for him constantly going back to Kenzie after the way she treated him. It just didn’t make sense and their romance was far from believable. I did like her aunt Vida though, she was hilarious.

I'm a fan of the fake relationship trope, and I loved how this one took us to multiple destinations as the ruse grew. I also loved the dynamic between the characters- the quirky, slightly crazy heroine, and the hero who was along for the ride. The story was funny, romantic, and sweet. My only qualm is that I'm not the biggest fan of reading romances where a divorcee isn't falling back in love with their spouse. But if you're looking for your next clean rom-com, this one is still good.

This was a pretty amusing book. I really liked Camden. And I liked Kenzie, but I did think that she made some dumb choices in the Mason subplot. I think I would have liked Camden and Kenzie in a different plot better...like maybe if Camden wasn't a billionaire and actually still was a construction worker or something. I also didn't love the way the book ended, but at least (mild spoiler: they ended up together ;-)).

Content: No language or sex. An instance of mild, non-graphic violence.

I've liked a lot of this author's books, but this one was a lot of kissing without a lot of actual getting to know each other (aka falling in love).
That said, Aunt Vita might be my favorite supporting character EVER. There should be a whole book of her sayings.

Her Big Fat Fake Billionaire Boyfriend is a stand-alone, clean, contemporary romance from an author with a talent for crafting humorous situations while captivating the reader with plot twists.
However, even for fiction, the “blind date” concept of a going away for a wedding date is a BIG stretch, especially for a woman with such high standards that she doesn’t even drink. Nevertheless, I enjoyed Kenzie and Camden’s story and will recommend this story to my friends.

Is there anything cheesier these days than a billionaire romance story? NO. Did I lap this one up like a dog eating ice cream? YES! Yes, I sure did! Will I read any more of this author's work? Count on it. She writes humorous and morally stand-up characters. Loved it. Perfect brain candy.

Romance at her sister's wedding

This story had some unexpected twists, but they fit nicely with the overall book. The main characters are unique and a bit quirky but their romance is sweet and the ending is perfect.

Did not work for me. In realty, the hero would never be with someone like this woman. I usually enjoy heroines like her, but she was a bit annoying. Their banter was painful to read. It was not smooth or fun.

Fun

She has a crazy family and she is the top nut. He finds her quirkiness enduring. They come together by mistaken identity and he can't help volunteering to be her paid escort.

If this is your first book by this author, I'd say go ahead and read it.

It's a light, funny, well-written but predictable romance. (The typical "Boy meets girl in unusual circumstances because they would never have met normally... because of circumstances, they have to spend alot of time together...misunderstandings occur that are not cleared up until later with cries of, "You lied to me!" ... in a short span of time, both fall in love but are afraid to say anything...one or both deny their feelings and they go back and forth with this until the end of the book where everything is resolved and the couple either gets engaged or married. The end")

This is the 5th book I've read by Victorine Lieske. I started with the first two of the "Married" series, then "Isabella and the Slipper," and "Falling for the Beast." These were all good books that I enjoyed reading, but by the second book, I began noticing similarities popping up between the books. Probably more so because I've been reading the books back-to-back on Kindle Unlimited.

Especially in the "Married" & "Billionaire" series, the leading characters' personalities and basic circumstances were pretty much the same in the 3 books I've read (wealthy laid back guys deeply discontented underneath with their empty workaholic lives and spunky, funny, noncomformist free-spirited kooky but confused heroines with hearts of gold), and the storylines were becoming very predictable (which I absolutely HATE).

The thing I like about this author's books is her use of humor. She is very witty and good at writing funny banter between her characters. This is probably the main characteristic that sets her romances apart from other romance novels.

* Just as an FYI for Victorine...in the interest of accuracy, in Chapter 17, Page 194, you wrote the following sentence: "After I graduated, I found a shop that lets you throw your own pottery, then they *bake* it for you.” As a pottery enthusiast, Kenzie would know that a pot is "fired" in a kiln...not baked like a pie. :o]

Really did not like this book. Got it via KU. Plot was predictable, overdone and unrealistic. Characters were annoying. The novel is nearly love at first sight, and as such has absolutely NO supportive context for the declarations of love. Did I mention that the characters were annoying? The female MC is weak-willed, literally runs away from all conflict and consequently lies about stupid things, even when she's been wronged egregiously. What's that saying? Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. This woman allows herself to get fooled multiple times by her ex-husband and still doesn't stand up for herself. She actually puts a lot of effort into doing what he wants. It would have taken so little effort to just say no and call her former father-in-law if she was so concerned about his health. Big billionaire finds her appealing for some reason and doesn't lift a finger to help her out of the mess with her ex-husband aside from coming along for the ride. Yes, he says sweet and supportive things, but none of that equals love and lifetime commitment. I'm surprised he took her back after she burned him time and time again. I kept thinking that it might improve. Maybe I suffer from the same problems they do. I have difficulty cutting my losses. Once I'm invested in a book, I have to see how it ends because NOT knowing whether there's an interesting twist at the end bugs me. On the technical side, there were so many run-on sentences that I lost count. Overall, I'd really like those few hours of my life back.

I rarely read wholesome stories. I get a gipped feeling like I’m missing something. This was no different. I think wholesome stories need to pull you in tighter.

Romance, clean
This was a cute read. Kenzie bowls over Camden, who 'goes along for the ride' literally and figuratively to Kenzie's sister's wedding. Cute premise, Camden is a great guy who loves being treated 'normally' by Kenzie. The psycho ex, was a bit overdone (for my taste, but fit the style of the novel).
V.E.L. always writes cute stories, this was no exception. Camden is the more believable of the two characters. Still a fun escape read.

Not a great main character

What girl would ever act like that? Helping out an ex that cheated on her. Fictional story that’s totally not believable.

Camden James had just broken up with his girlfriend, Lexi that morning. He had worked on one of his many job sites to avoid, her finding him in the office. She seemed like a good fit at first, but a few dates in and she was starring on the stalker charts. She started accusing him of cheating and resorted to following him. To the point where she disrupted a meeting checking. Being that they lived in the same building, seemed like a plus at the time, figuring since she had money, too his wouldn’t phase her. However now, he realizes his error, so a drink sounded good on the rainy night. He wants the same thing his sister has. A loving partner to share his life and a family.

When a beautiful woman comes in from the downpour outside, glancing around for someone, and heads his way. Right away saying, “Sorry, I’m so sorry I’m late,” flashing him a dazzling smile. I’m Kenzie Bennett, you know that already, geez. I’m sure they told you. Sorry, now I’m rambling on because I’m nervous. Forgive me if I ask, too many questions. She finally sits down, all the while talking. But it’s not every day a woman hires a male escort. “What?” Burst out of Camden.
She just says, Sorry see I’m already getting it wrong and making a fool of myself. When pausing long enough to take a breath, after what appeared to be a run-on sentence, he tells her, “I think you have me confused with someone else.”
All she can say is, “Really?”

This book grips you from start to finish. Camden finds her so endearing, he offers to be her escort. She negotiates a fee which he finds adorable considering he’s a billionaire. She is such a funny genuine, quirky, person and that's what attracts him. What seems illogical to others, when you stand back and pay attention, makes perfect sense. Hence, putting his luggage in her trunk. Her Sherlock Holmes bit is interesting, too. Was she really that far off? Her philosophy is an interesting concept that seems to work for her. Yet, people wanted to mock her and discount her jewelry art. That is until they saw, what the second-hand dealers were selling it for. Camden just wanted to love someone and be loved. His superpower was the strength, he gave her by being by her side, so she could speak up for herself. I also loved her Aunt Vita she was a hoot and her relationship with her sister. The whole book will have you laughing.

With a book titled Her Big Fat Fake Billionaire Boyfriend , I hope you have already figured out that this is a slightly ridiculous, humorous story.  I find it is necessary to read this kind of romantic comedy at least a few times a month.

With a mom who is never satisfied with anything she does, Kenzie is quite insecure.  Added to that is the way her ex, Mason, treated her.  She has a tendency of babbling when she is nervous, and picking up Camden the way she did, she has plenty of reasons to be nervous.

Camden's motivation for agreeing to be Kenzie's fake boyfriend for the wedding is simple.  He wants to stay away from his crazy ex-girlfriend/neighbor Lexi.  (I ended up being inspired to write an entire post about her - Lessons I Learned From Lexi.)

This story was quite fun.  From Kenzie thinking she has the gift of Sherlock Holmes in deducing things about people (she doesn't), to Vita, her aunt, who desperately needs a filter, Victorine Lieske has woven a tale that had me laughing throughout.  Her characters are larger than life (though not fat, despite the title), her plot is a little unbelievable (which is part of the point of this kind of book), and the mood lighthearted and fun, with a little parent and ex related drama thrown in to give it balance.

Though the story is about a billionaire, and though Kenzie comes from a wealthy family, the emphasis on the story is not on money or the love of it, and it presents the importance of personality and character over wealth and beauty.

While Camden met Kenzie at a bar and was drinking there, and another character turns up drunk, those are the only references to alcohol and it isn't presented as either a good or bad thing.

There is a scene where Camden and Kenzie need to share a hotel room out of necessity (the hotel is full), but the story is still squeaky clean and there is no sexual relationship in the story.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily reviewing.

This is such an awesome book. There were times that I laughed but also times when you are going to need tissue to wipe the tears from your eyes so you can continue reading.
Drew and Miranda have been best friends forever. Drew has been in love with her since high school but Miranda has always seen him as just her best friend. He had to move away because his heart could not take watching her date other guys but they still talk on the phone all the time. When Miranda got engaged, Drew started to pull away from the relationship as much as he could but Miranda still called him all the time and talked about everything. Now a year later, Miranda calls him after her fiancé breaks up with her. Drew, like always, is there for her and flies out to be with her and help her. They decide to take the honeymoon cruise that she had planned anyway so Drew sets it up so they have rooms next to each other. While on the cruise Miranda discovers that she has feelings for Drew that go beyond best friends after they kiss but she decides that they can't cross that line so she doesn't say anything. By the end of the cruise, Drew decides that he has to cut all ties with Miranda to hopefully help his heart heal and be able to move on. Will Drew actually cut all ties? How will Miranda handle not having him to talk to? What happens when Miranda finally realizes she loves Drew? How will she tell him if he won't answer her calls and texts? Will they be able to work things out or does Drew continue to ignore Miranda?

I've just finished listening to this little baby by author Victorine E. Lieske and couldn't WAIT to write a review ❤

🔵 Camden : He was quite the funny guy. I liked how supportive of Kenzie he was and never said no to her. He was like a moth drawn to a flame, the more he wanted to avoid catching feelings, the deeper he fell for her.

🔵 Kenzie : She was an interesting character for sure, and I liked the idea of her being a jewelry designer 😍 it's amazing to be able to do what you love and turn it into your source of income ❤ I could relate so much to what she was experiencing. At the end, she was finally able to let go of that fear, and chose to be happy.

This couple was pretty funny, but I guess all of Voctorine's characters are like that 😂 I like how easygoing they are. The plots might not be something out of the ordinary, yet they're the kind you never get tired of reading about or listening to, that is if you're a hopeless romantic like myself haha.

I've been enjoying listening to these audiobooks lately, since I'm in no mood to do anything else. That still counts as reading though, so it's fine ❤

Minus one star because Camden fell too quickly for Kenzie in my opinion, and that doesn't usually happen in real life lol other than that, I really loved it ! ( I will not hide the fact that I cried at the end but 🤫 let's keep this between you and me ).

-'Gravel crunched, and fear ripped through her. Camden stepped out of the shadows. This was it. He was going to grab her and drag her off. She turned and did a ninja move, her hand up and her water bottle pointed at him. He blinked at her as she stood there, wielding her cold drink. “You okay?” He looked totally harmless. And hot. And his lips were twitching like he was trying not to smile.' ...
'“Don’t worry. I won’t spray you unless you try to slice me up or something.” He climbed into the car. “You don’t have to worry about that. I hate blood.” She buckled her seat. “Good, because I kind of like you, and it would be a shame if you turned out to be a murderer.”'-

This book had me in stitches! It was so funny 😂. Victorine Lieske is a gifted author. All of her books are clean. I love everything she writes. 'Her Big Fat Billionaire Boyfriend' grabbed my attention from the start and I couldn't put it down. I read it all in one sitting. It reminded me of a movie "The Wedding Date" (loosely), which I love. I highly recommend it.

New author and it sounded like a light fun read so I grabbed the box set through Kindle Unlimited.
Started well. It then went so screwy as to be a farce, then fell totally flat for me.
Kenzie starts off as fun and powerful for all of 5 minutes, then she was just a pathetic, back and forth, idiot.
She had no backbone in regards to her overbearing nasty mother. Even at the end she doesn’t stand up for herself.
Camden came across as a good guy but why he fell for her weak, hot mess I don’t know. Wanted somebody else for him.
Kenzie ditches Camden and runs, twice, which seems to be her usual M.O.
Then we get some farcical marriage thrown in with another man.
How she can compare Camden against Mason, I don’t know.
Mason is a spoiled child wanting an easy life, Camden has worked hard since he was 16 to build up his construction empire.
The whole circus with Mason, and his horrible mother, all about money, yikes.
Returning the box set unfinished.

Kenzie and Camden

Kenzie is desperate. She needs a date for her sister Tessa's marriage to Eric. She knows if she shows up alone, her mother will never let her hear the end of it. So here she is at a bar, and she approaches the only single guy in the room. Only instead of him being the escort for hire she thought he was, he's a normal guy. As she explains why she is there and how she mistook him for her date. Thankfully, Camden agrees to help her out! How did she get so lucky? Camden couldn't be happier for Kenzie as he was wondering how he would be able to avoid his crazy ex Lexi. What happens the next day that makes Kenzie extremely nervous? Will she and Camden be able to pull off the ruse? Without falling for one another? What happens to the surprise man who shows up? Then what happens at the wedding that startles Camden? Wow, then what happens the following weekend at the reunion they attend? You will love this book by Victorine Lieske.
