Sissy's Romance Book Review
Scandal with a Sinful Scot by Karyn Gerrard is book Two in the Men of Wollstonecraft Hall. This is the story of Garrett Wollstonecraft and Abigail Hughes. I have read the previous book but feel this can be a standalone book.
Abbie and Garrett fell in love at a young age but Garrett ended up with cold feet. Garrett's family is cursed he believes and to save Abbie from any physical hurt he cruelly broke things off. Now 14 years later Abbie is a widower with a secret that could have ruined her back

It’s easy and heartbreaking to understand Abbie’s reactions when the man she’d love forever turned away from her. In his view Garrett was saving Abbie from his family’s curse, one that always resulted in the death of any man’s wife who would dare to challenge the curse by falling in love. He would rather face a loveless life than risk Abbie. To Abbie, Garrett’s family misfortunes was exactly that, people get ill, women die in childbirth it is a way of life for the tim

A story of second chances and secrets that come to life. Garrett Wollstonecraft and Abigail Hughes were young and passionately in love. Until Garrett decided he had to break it off to preserve Abbie from the Wollstonecraft curse. What you say? A lot of unspoken words and youth came into play, so when they meet fourteen years later, they have both changed. Abbie, now widowed, had built up a lot of resentment and hurt feelings toward Garrett that were understandable. A hugh truth comes to light wi ...more

Scandal with a Wicked Scot by Karyn Gerrard
Men of Wollstonecraft #2

Second chance love story with fourteen years apart sees Abigail meeting up again with her daughter’s biological father, finding the chemistry still hot and Garrett’s fear of a family curse still believed in. I had trouble with the believability factor of more than one aspect of this story although the writing was fine. The families were warm and loving, the friends true, the story of the man seeking vengeance a bit over the top,

Things I hated about the book: Garrett.

Things I liked about this book: EVERYONE ELSE OMG. Seriously, all the other characters are sweet and compassionate and likeable. Garrett was a selfish ass who couldn't see past the nose on his face. He annoyed me to no end and I found myself infuriated with him almost constantly. Abbie deserves better. (Also Abbie wasn't a nickname for Abigail in the 1800s but whatever 🙄).

At least Garrett recognized that the curse was stopped from being broken because of hi

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for letting me read this book. It was fantastic and it kept me going from the start. Scandal with a Sinful Scot is the first book I have read by Karyn Gerrard and certainly will not be the last. I love this book. It is in my re read pile for sure.

I don't want to give the story away, but I will say this book has a family curse, second chances at love, addition, vengeance, family bonds, and a HEA, just to name a few things.

Falling in love with Abigail Hughes at a young age Garrett Wollstonecraft thought to spare her from his families damning curse he decides to foolishly let go of her and live a lonely loveless life. Fourteen years later Abigail is in his life again, and she’s resentful and hurt over the betrayal of their love and the secret she had to endure or else be ruined.
I loved this story of second chances the story flowed well and the characters were likeable. The connection between them was well developed

The premise of this story was so interesting that I couldn't wait to jump right in. I was expecting a second-chance love story between two people who find their way back to one another after over a decade of being apart. What I got was two people so immature that it was hard to believe they were supposed to be in their thirties. I get it. Really I do. You loved him, and he broke your heart and cast you aside. You loved her, and she didn't tell you the secret she carried. Mistakes were made on bo ...more

I received Scandal with a Sinful Scot as part of a Goodreads giveaway.

Fourteen years ago, young lovers Garrett Wollstonecraft and Abbie Hughes were torn apart after Garrett's paranoia regarding a family curse forced him to end their relationship in a dramatic, emotional fashion. Now in their early 30s, the pair are reunited when Garrett's troubled, drug-addicted nephew lands in the hospital where Abbie, now a widow, works. Abbie is shocked to see Garrett again, and loathe to tell him about the s

I enjoyed the first two books in Karyn Garrard Men of Wollstonecraft Hall series, but this one fell short for me, but again you can’t love them all.

I am just going to pull the bandage right off and get right into this books drawbacks. The first and biggest drawback for me was both Garrett and Abigail cannot seem to forgive each other and so this means these two keep bring up the same thing that broke them up so many years ago and it got to be dreadful reading it time and time again. This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

For the most part, I enjoyed the story but I really had a hard time feeling a connection with Garrett and Abbie. He seemed like a cold selfish man and she held on to the past hurts and was not as quick to forget them as she was to jump back in to Garrett's bed. It also seemed strange that she was the aggressor in their first relationship when women during Victorian times were sheltered and ignorant about sex.

I did like that Garrett really tried to c

Another great read in the Men of Wollstonecraft Hall series!

With this second book, we get the story of Garrett and Abbie. Besides being well-written, the story was in itself intriguing, with its accurate historical backdrop and the variety of characters. Most of the characters were compelling in regards to their progressive outlooks on education, women's rights, medicine, worker's rights, etc. A lot of reform was going on during the earlier half of the Victorian age!
I really like the fact that

This is an intriguing and entertaining story. Garrett is a caring and generous and stubborn man who has lived his life in fear of love because of a curse. Abbie is the woman he fell in love with, then drove away. She is determined, strong and kind. When Abbie sees Garrett again after 15 years, all of the love, longing and hurt come back to the surface. She decides that it's time to reveal to him that he has a daughter. Garrett has been plagued by memories of her all along, when he sees her again ...more

Young Abbie and Garrett meet at age eighteen, fall in love and have frequent liaisons before she leaves to go home. Garrett rejects his love for Abbie and sends her away not knowing that she is with child. Years later they see each other again and Abbie must decide if Garrett is able to give the love that she so desperately wants. An average story with big characters and the typical plot of the cat and mouse, he-loves-me, he-loves-me-not-love story. This one was average and did not peak my inter ...more

Abbie and Garrett first met 14 years ago and had a passionate summer romance. They meet again, the passion is still there but trust is another thing. There is also the matter of the curse on the Wollstonecraft men that Garrett believes in. Can he overcome his thoughts on it he has held since he was a child? I loved the family bond between the Wollstonecraft siblings and father. Abbie was a forthright character who often acted spontaneously, especially in her younger days. This is the second in t

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is apart of the Wollstonecraft series. In this one Grant who is a firm believer in the family curse meets a blast from the past. She has a secret that could case a scandal. Abbie has kept a secret for a very long time and now decides that Grant should know. It really irked me that Abbie was all up in arms that Grant was mad for keeping the secret. I would be pissed off too. So it was hard for me to like her overall a fairly go ...more

I received a Kindle copy of this book as part of a Goodreads Giveaway. It is the first book I've read by this author. It's a Victorian romance featuring the son of an Earl and the woman he had known 14 years earlier when they were both 18 - is it's in the category of 'second chance romance'. I enjoyed the characters and the story, tho didn't really care for the basis of a curse since this is not a paranormal romance. It touches on some of the societal issues of the day, which sadly we are still ...more

I won a copy of the E-book to read and review.
I was very pleased with this book, there was a few sex scenes, but nothing really smutty.
The characters were well developed, and worked well off each other. The plot was well thought out and explained clearly. While no major plot twists, there was just enough to keep wondering what would happen next.
Finishes off nicely, with a teaser that makes you anxious for the next book!!
Well done!! I will be reading the next one for sure!

Loved the book! Abigail sees Garrett after 14 years and all the old feelings come flooding out. She knows she needs to finally tell him he has a daughter Megan who is 14 years old. When Garrett sees the one woman he loved with his whole heart he can’t deny that he wants her with a passion. When he finds out that he has a daughter he will do anything to be a real family but danger is lurking in the woods! I love theses characters, a great read with a wonderful story!

This was my first book by Karyn Gerrard. Having not read the first in the series, I was happy to find that this read well as a stand alone. I enjoyed the overall story, but didn't really connect with the characters. They had the same conversation over and over again, which became a little tedious. Their interactions came off a little wooden. Also, it jumped perspective to a few characters that were so minor that I didn't feel the need for their opinion.

**I won this novel in the goodreads giveaway.**

Scandal with a Sinful Scott was the first book I've read by Karyn Gerrard. The characters in SWSS just felt flat to me, they did't make me feel anything and because of that I wasn't invested in what happened to them. They just kept rehashing the past over and over. I had to push myself to give this book a chance and finish reading it and afterward I just felt relieved that it was over.

Garrett and Abigail were young and in love until Garrett decided to end it to protect her from the Wollstoncraft curse. The reunite 14 years later and are very different. Will they find love with each other again? I really liked this historical read. The story is fast-paced with plenty of drama and suspense. A very entertaining read.

Abbie &Garrett

Abbie & Garrett met when they were young and Megan was the result. But Garrett didn't know and Abbie was married off quietly. Her husband had since passed away. Now 14 years later they meet and the passion is still there.

It was fine... but the characters had the same conservation over and over. I probably won't seek out another book by Karyn Gerrard.

Thank you to Kensington Books and Goodreads for the digital ARC of this novel.

This was a nice romantic story, with steamy love scenes. However it had a lot of self reflections which I thought where repetitive at times. Overall a good read.

Yessss. Give me all of the lost love tropes. I love stories where the characters already have a past. This lets us get down to the meat of the relationship much quicker. They knew each other, they probably still love each other, but will either come right out and say it? Ya, probably not. Ms. Gerrard has written a really tense and emotional store between Abigail and Garrett. It’s not so much a “will they or won’t they” so much as an OMG WHEN kind of story. This book was a lot of fun sprinkled wi ...more
