If you're one of them, you'll know first-hand how distressing and frustrating the disorder can be.Dr Janice Vickerstaff Joneja saw the misery that this condition caused sufferers, and made it the focus of her research work; she's been studying the condition and helping patients since the 1990s. She's now created this easy-to-read guide-which will help you understand if you have Histamine Intolerance, and what you can do about it-with clear advice and explanations, lots of interesting real-life cases, plus diet and treatment recommendations. This is a mediocre introduction to Histamine Intolerance at best. I had high hopes for this book as the author has been recommend to me by online support groups for mast cell activation disorder. I was hoping it would be a go to reference for all things related to histamine intolerance, instead it's more like a pamphlet in terms of content. Had I known I would have waited for her upcoming book, Histamine Intolerance: the Complete Guide for Medical Professionals. Maybe I am too well read on the subject but all of this information is better explain in blogs on internet, even the food list is vague and contradicts other list I was hoping it would at least offer tips on how to begin diet but is one of those books that constant hints you need to seek professional dietician. I only gleamed one of two nuggets of useful information and was left wanting to learn more. Even her references were mostly to articles she has published. To be fair I also bought her book Dealing with Food Allergies and it looks like a wonderfullly laid out book to help uncover food intolerances but has only short chapter on histamine. Sigh.

Good but not sure about the list of food containing histamine. A good advice would be to eat everything fresh and to clean and pealed your food.

I think it is a good beginners guide for sure. You need to be careful about ovoiding food for no reason except their freshness and cleanliness.

Good i got to subject

Quick read. Histamine sensitivity is difficult to diagnose. This book explores why some people have it.but only a physician has the ability to order the right tests to confirm such diagnosis.

Good overview if you are completely new to Histamine Intolerance, but there should be more practical info regarding food choices and how to follow an HI diet. Her foods list is not very thorough. Some suggested menus and reference recipe site/books would be useful.

Because of the similarity of symptoms to those of allergies, this is an under-diagnosed condition. But approximately 1% of the population suffers from it. The author (who has a PhD in medical microbiology and immunology as well as being a registered dietitian) addresses the differences as well as the underlying causes and related issues. There is an extensive and comprehensive section on diet, which seems to be the best way of managing symptoms, as well as a series of case histories. I was surprised that mould and other biotoxin related illnesses weren't included and she seems to have a particular interest in women's health and hormonal fluctuations. On the whole, though, I found this a very readable and useful book. I just wish the print had been a bit larger. Definitely one for the e-reader if you're visually impaired.
