A sweet book of finding oneself after being betrayed by an infidel husband. The story

My first book by author Barbara Quinn, I quite liked the way the story was written. It was formulaic with a low self-esteem wife who fleed the scene and went to a different town, rented a house, found a sexy neighbor, friends rallied around, husband was a boor, an she found her life back. But weaving the songs of Bruce Springsteen gave it a different meaning.

I liked how the lyrics of the songs heard by the mai

Even though I'm a Springsteen fan I found myself trying to remember the songs.
I found this book really easy to read, I felt for Sofia, who clearly continued to struggle with the death of her son, many years before; then to come home to find her husband sharing their bed with another woman.
Like a lot of scorned women Sofia had a lack of self esteem and hoped that moving away would help.
By starting a new life away from old memories Sofia hoped that her life could move forward.

In The Summer Springsteen’s Songs Saved Me, Quinn offers her readers an overall charming and optimistic take on life’s sharp corners, specifically the too-common human heartbreak involved in catching one’s husband cheating. On an already searing day, the birthday of her dead son, Sofia comes home to find her husband in bed with his personal trainer. After the encounter, she sets up housekeeping in Bradley Beach, a charming salt-spray hamlet on the Jersey Shore. The little boardwalk-bound village ...more

A really great story - easy to read and set in an area of the world I’d love to visit.
I’m a huge Springsteen fan and this story about loss, healing, friendships and the power of music cements my idea that music by The Boss is the best

The Summer Springsteen's Songs Saved Me is a great read, satisfying on many levels. First, as an engrossing tale full of recognizably human characters, Barbara Quinn transports us along with her protagonist, Sofia, from the home that she shared with her soon to be ex-husband to the imagined protections of the resort town of Bradley Beach, a locale from which we will not venture. This setting, with its small town atmosphere and folks, and at times calming and at others threatening surf, along wit ...more

The Summer Springsteen's Songs Saved Me by Barbara Quinn starts with a bang then gently unfolds from there. Sofia is married to Jerome, a controlling arrogant type. When she walks in on him with his personal trainer, she decides to set up a new life for herself near the beach. Listening to Bruce Springsteen has always been her escape and now it is a real refuge from the changes in her life.
The main character Sofia is well written and we feel empathy with her and warmth towards her from early on

“You can do this, Sofia. You know you can.”

This really was such an uplifting quick little read. I would say that is was more of a book about a woman finding who she was and how to love who she was before she could truly ever love anyone else again, than an actual romance novel. But it does throw a little of that in there as well which was sweet too, especially considering the characterization of Sofia, the main character.
This is the journey of Sofia Catherwood. She is having a really bad day on

While I’m not a huge Springsteen fan, I’m a huge fan of this novel. From the get go, the reader is projected into a horrific situation that immediately clings in all the painful places. It’s enough to set anyone off. Yet there are layers to the pain Sofia feels, and we begin to discover a little bit at a time where she’s coming from, and why she still feels an attachment to her husband, even with the way he treats her. This book contains the trifecta! Love, loss, and self renewal. The characters in this book are so true to life and easy to relate to. This is my first Barbara Quinn book, but it won't be my last! Her words bring so many emotions out! I laughed, cried, and became angry along with Sofia. I absolutely loved the descriptive ways her thoughts came to life. The Summer Springsteen's Songs Saved Me: A Warm and Inspiring Novel by Barbara Quinn is a fun, inspiring and unique take on an age old tale.

For the record: I know Bruce Springsteen is a great artist and has some amazing songs. And I know the most famous ones. But to say I’m a big fan and know all his songs by heart, I would be lying.

So initially I was a bit hesitating to give this book a chance, as my fear was that his songs would be a bigger part of the story. But afterwards I am happy I gave it a shot!

This story is filled with Bruce Springsteen references. Songs, his band, the first bar he played in. These facts fill the main character’s life with meaning and reflection. Sofia, our main character, has been dealt a crappy hand in life and depression tries to take her away from it all. However, The Boss is there is keep her grounded. Sofia learns to trust herself and that talking about the bad will help her with the good. She learns that while change is hard it can also bring something good.

I'm very privileged because I am actually the editor of this novel. Barbara Quinn has written a warm and engaging story and it's hard not to have a soft spot for this one. Our heroine, forty-something Sofia, is real and flawed and is plain sick of being one of life's victims, and this story follows her journey from when she finally decides to abandon the old Sofia and start again. We follow her ups and downs and see her battling with an always-looming darkness and her weaknesses, her struggle to ...more

The Summer Springsteen’s Songs Saved Me by Barbara Quinn is a very well written, enjoyable book to read. I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading but I was quickly pulled into the story and couldn’t stop reading.

Sofia is moving on and starting over. It isn’t as easy as it sounds though and it takes incredible strength and courage for her to take this step but along the way, she runs in to some setbacks.

I love that no matter what she’s been through or what she’s had to deal with, Sof
