The descendant of a Greek Titan, a reluctant shape shifter, and an angel’s warning.

The Agency's purpose coincides with its leader, Hyperion. As the father to the sun, the moon and the dawn, the Greek Titan endeavors along with his vast network to ensure the world keeps turning.

Abigail Davenport, a descendant of the Titan and powerful magic wielder, must adapt the network she established before it falls behind with the changing technological world. She uncovers a plot to destroy all that she built along with millions of innocent lives.

Tadeas Duarte, a Mayan Jaguar Guardian, works in the basement of The Agency's facility in Boulder, Colorado. He may be the Agency's best trainer, but he vows never to use his talents again, after a tragic accident. His unique shifting ability and tether to the spirit world make him the best candidate to join Abigail. She must convince him that his talents are a gift and not a curse.

A dire warning from the Archangel Gabriel compels Abigail and Tadeas confirm their alliance and seek out the enemy. Together they will discover the true face of evil, the power of partnership and that sometimes you've got to have faith.

Truly Unique

I have never read a book the three religion and mythology together into a boiling pot and stewed it so perfectly.
I have to admit, the first half of the book had me pondering and confused.
Where was this going? What was the point of some of these I teractions.
But in true Kimbra fashion, she just shows that there is ALWAYS a bigger and more elaborate picture.
I just didn’t understand it until all the loose threads were connected towards the end.
Like any first novel, this was shot world building, character and plot building.
I was wondering when Abby would show her true fave, and how it all fit in with Jag.
It started off a little muddled but again, the more I read, the more strings i pulled and the more it unraveled.
I can’t wait to read where it goes next.
Who doesn’t love neveomancers, angels, fae and shapeshifters?
This story and these characters are truly one of a kind!

(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I completely change my mind on a series, so want to change my scoring down a lot. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)

DNF

I really liked the first book (so I quickly read the series) I read by this author but I couldn't even make it past the first part of the second chapter of this one. I was skimming over them as well. I own other first in series books to try by this author, so hoping this one is the fluke, not the series I really liked.
I've gone off this author for now, so will try an actual 'new to me' author on my TBR mountain. (I gave up adding books to Goodreads and will now only add when got a review to post or to remind me what's due out when, that I really want to snag!)

First time read the author's work?: No

Will you be reading more?: Not of this series

Would you recommend?: Not this series -- I would recommend her Fairy Queen in Trailer park series.

------------
How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author)
4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author).
3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series)
or
3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)

All of the above scores means I would recommend them!
-
2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.)
1* = Disliked

Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)

So many books with women as heroines start with the woman in a desperate, financial, abusive and impoverished situation. This book starts with the heroine, who is the functioning CEO for a multi-billion dollar corporation ensuring the policing of the supernatural world. She is a woman of power, and she has to move quickly to forge a partnership with a guardian. It is superior writing by a skilled author.

I didn't love all this book. Not because it was bad, mind you, but because this author writes some really, REALLY horrendously awful bad guys. Then the whole thing came together in a wow of a culmination. Couldn't wait to move onto book 2. Weaving religion and mythology together and coming up with a story with one heck of a hook.

Great kickoff for a new series. The universe built is vast and defined, creating an impressive foundation. Pulls from multiple directions of the supernatural and mythological. Plenty of action, snark, magic, tech, and emotion. Truly enjoyed the story, and I look forward to future installments.

Loved the couple, loved the worldbuilding.

A fast paced and intricate plot set around two central characters who are interesting, strong and well thought out. As a debut this is impressive. I look forward to reading more by Ms Swain.

Couldn't finish it

I don't mind the odd few errors in a book, but this just had too many for me to handle so I just couldn't finish it. I liked the premise but it really needs a darn good editing.

Excellent

An excellent book! It is very different from the authors other series I've read but both are very good. The author uses different POV which I normally don't like but this is done very well.

Great Book!

Slow to start, but I love the mix of religion, mythology, and “paranormals” in this book. Once I got the stories more interwoven, I really felt immersed. Downloading book 2 now!

Right reason wrong action

This book has a lot of need for proofreading. The story is good with some unique ideas but the lack of proofreading causes the flow of the story to stumble.

Wow interesting world

What a great start to a series. Love the characters. Awesome urban fantasy. Enjoyed the different pov's, an intriguing way to get to know different characters mindsets. Kimbra paints a wonderfully vivid picture with her writing. Off to read book two.

Simply amazing!

I fell in love with these people. They are good people who are trying to do something to help the world. They are funny and I did laugh, but the story keeps you guessing til the end.

Abomination

This book is on the edge of darkness. Walking the road to redemption is definitely what I imagine the characters are doing.

I loved this story, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series. However, I must say there were a LOT of editing errors in there. At times it caused me to have to reread portions to fully understand what it meant to say as opposed to the incorrect things it was actually saying.

While I find this slightly irritating, it did nothing to diminish the wonderful story!
