After four tours in Afghanistan, Warren Groves couldn't settle into civilian life. For the last twelve years, he's survived by working odd and often illegal jobs for some of Denver's less fortunate. His personal life is equally unsatisfactory. He can barely remember the last time he had sex, let alone the last time he got to use somebody hard and rough, the way he likes. F ...more

Some parts of this book were slow and some highly emotional. The emotional outweighed the slow and left me feeling exhausted. That doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it.

Warren is a 38 year old war veteran who works mostly as a body guard for prostitutes. He has this driving need to provide protection. That need is tied into his past of having a mother who was abused by his father.

Taylor is in his early 20’s and a prostitute. He trades sex for a place to stay and food to eat. He doesn’t have to live li

One Man’s Trash is another Man’s Roses.

“Or hit me!” He shoved Warren again. And again. And again, screaming, “Hit me! Just hit me! That’s all I need. If you won’t fuck me, at least hit me!”

Well this book was one crazy, cuckoo ride of dysfunctional relationship that for some weird reasons worked.

I don’t even know how to write a review for this perfect disaster . All I know is this is

Fans of dark erotica, rejoice! Marie Sexton has completely outdone herself with One Man’s Trash, the first installment in her The Heretic Doms Club series. Angsty and gritty (with just about every trigger warning I can think of) this is a powerful and heart-rending tale. This story affected me so deeply, just thinking of everything that happened, makes me want to scroll back and experience it all over again.

It is wonderful watching this drama unfold. Marie Sexton made me so happy with the variet

This was one of the most emotionally exhausting reads I have read in a while. I had to sit it aside a couple times to just take a break from it. Going into the story I was pretty clueless how dark and disturbing this one was going get. I guess I should have paid closer attention to the blurb. The things that took place weren't shocking nor did they bother me. I just didn't pay the necessary attention I should have to what the book was about. Am I the only one who didn't see any trigger

I've stewed on this one for the last 3-4 days and I really don't know how to rate it. I think my problem comes down to Taylor's tenuous grip on his mental health and that skirted a little too close to my day job. But that's not to say that there was nothing redeeming about this story.

I liked the age and size difference between Taylor and Warren and the play on them both being sort of misfits. Warren's seemingly gruff and unapproachable when in fact he's more of a gentle misunderstood giant that'

4.25 stars. I’m just going to start with the understatement of the freaking millennium: fighting one’s demons is not pretty. Only dare to wade into this one if you like dark with a side of romance... not the other way around... and bring a flashlight.

Props to the author for not shying away from some seriously uncomfortable content and psychological battles. It wasn’t perfect — and this is going to sound unthinkable in light of what IS written into the story, but there were times that I felt the

“Never let the sadness of your past or your fear of the future distract you from the joy of the present.”

It's tough watching someone you care about (a parent, a friend) stay with an abusive partner because of fear or some twisted belief that they love the abuser or that the abuser loves them. But what about when your partner will do absolutely anything to get you to abuse them because they think it's what they deserve? One Man's Trash is, undoubtedly one of the most fucked up bo

This is a train wreck. I couldn't look away. I was this close to DNFing at least 5 times. But I still couldn't look away. So, 3 stars I guess. Maybe 2.75?

Abuse, self harm, rape, addiction, death, gang bangs, violence, DEATH, beatings, suicide...it's ALL here.

If Taylor still denied therapy after all this, I would have lost my shit.

But there was one thing that I liked and that I think makes this book different than other BDSM stories. Most times the authors focus on the sub's tastes. Here, it was

Once again, I picked up a book that I'd usually never give a second glance. After a friend reassured me it was not D/s, I thought I'd give this kinkfest a try.

What I read -- I made to 25% -- was well-written, and I have no gripes about it. I simply ran into a wall with OPK.

Other People's Kink is what I call the kinks I simply can't resonate with, no matter how skilled the writing. I'm guessing we all have them -- regardless of how fervently we support the concept of consenting adults doing as

This book was good but it deal with some sensitive subjects. Warren and Taylor are both scared but in different ways. Taylor lands in Warrens lap and what he thought would be a one off turned into so much more. These guys were great together, so hot at times. What I enjoyed about both of them was how they seemed to know what each needed even when the other didn't or didn't want it. Warren went above and beyond when Taylor had one of his bad days...an 11 on a scale from 1 to 10. I will have to sa ...more

This is one of the best psychological stories I've read in the M/M genre and it's making me consider reducing some of the high ratings I granted to other books.
I'm going to write a review on the triggers later on, but I still have to wrap my mind around the story to write a comprehensive review.
But what I want to say is that I loved it :)

Yes, this one is tough, because saying that Taylor is a mess is putting it mildly.
I have no idea how Warren copes with it. Where he finds his patience and willingness to keep going. The thing is - he is an inherently good guy, even if he does have a tendency to take justice into his hands.
Both guys have had a rough past. Both don't find it easy to talk. And yet (and despite the 15 years age difference) something clicks between them and what grows between them, very slowly and steadily, makes lif

I absolutely loved every word.
I felt so connected to the mc's I wanted to hug them myself.
Extremely well written.
Very fast paced.
Great world build and character build.

I only found 2 typos.

From the very first page you are drawn into Taylor & Warren's story.
The emotions are often raw and powerful.
How they come together and how they deal with each other is very intense.

The adult intimate scenes are beautif

After reading this... I can honestly say I NOW NEED THEREPY. I’m also booking some sessions for Warren. He clearly needs a lot of it. Meeting Taylor will do that to a man.

Taylor was just too much for me I’m sorry.

I get that his life has been sh+*%y but really? That’s how you choose to deal with it? Going on like a CRAZY person for poor Warren to go ape on you?

I can’t help but think that Warren got the short end of the staw here. He deserves a

Expected a BDSM story and got a heartbreaking and angsty tale of past abuse instead. I have no regrets about that, zero. Though I had slight issue with the casual use of a prostitute by the Hero, the two spiritually scarred men (Tay age 24, Warren 38) comes together slowly but beautifully. The characters gradually reveal deeper and more complex layers of themselves to each other and to the reader. So well done!

To some degree the romance and the smexy (and plenty of it there is) took a back seat

Although this book is mainly D/s with a strong Dom and a needy, traumatized sub, there are a lot of rough things in flashbacks and occasionally on page so it warrants many trigger warnings. Both men make a real journey here. Warren from being bitter and angry and closed down to taking someone into his heart, and then knowing the pain of not being able to make everything better for them, the way he wants to. Taylor from a past of many blows, and a present of survival, to trusting someone else and ...more

Wow....

This was quite a heavy emotional piece. Honestly, when I picked it up, I did not expect the depth it would go. Not for the faint hearted because it is emotionally taxing.

I can’t say I liked the characters on the outset. It was more of a constantly changing thing. Part of the reason is also that the characters were somewhat morally ambiguous at times, more so Warren than Taylor, actually.

And things weren’t always tied up with a neat, happy bow. Actually, expect things to go badly, most o

Let me set the stage for this well written tale of dark lives.
Warren, 38, tall, built, ex-military, with PTSD and loneliness is working security for the seedier side of life.

Taylor, 24, short, slim, with feminine looks, is a hustler with deep-seated, dark needs. He has a horrific past-life he hasn't overcome.

This book is kind of complicated. Parts I’ve loved, parts I’ve hated. A roller-coaster! 😅. In the beginning I have to admit that I was not cool with their relationship. For me Warren was better than the other guys (but in fact he did the same
Things that the others) and i didn’t really understand why Taylor was doing what he was doing by pure choice 😐. I was sad about these two. I really wanted to stop the book after the first chapters but thanks to my insomnia I’ve continued. I’m glad I did it b

This was pretty intense in regards to the topic and the angst, however was written with compassion and care. Warren was the ex soldier who still carried the pain and loss of war. His friends were very important to him and together they avenged and supported those on the fringes of community. Warren meets Taylor who is seriously messed up. Masochistic tendencies and deep seated shame lead Tay to seek physical pain & abuse. This is their story ❤ ...more

Not exactly an easy read, but I guess I was prepared ... and the story itself is VERY engrossing, which is a testament of Marie Sexton's writing.

Both Warren and Taylor have their baggage, though Taylor is at the moment, deeper than the most. I feel like holding my breath whenever there is a happy moment, because I know it's the quiet before the storm. Reading how Taylor dealing with his personal demons, his black days, is heartbreaking. I admit I struggle not to react, I don't know if I can eve

Heavy read, lots of impact

This was a pretty dark story in many ways, with some events that are disturbing to read. They will likely be triggers for some people, so proceed with caution. The Heretic Doms title comes from four friends, Warren, the protagonist of this story and his friends, Gray, Phil and Charlie who don’t fit the usual definition of a Dom. Bringing Taylor into his home and his life challenges Warren far beyond his personal limits. Taylor seems ideal for Warren at first but his iss

It's been a long time since I've read a book that's brought me to tears, but it's now time to reset the counter thanks to Marie Sexton’s One Man's Trash. The title of this novel is a perfect expression of what is between its covers. They begin to fill each other’s broken places, and Marie Sexton spares no small amount of heartache and hope ...more

5 stars for a very dark and heartbreaking story!

All the reviews that you can read about this book are true: the story is dark, the characters are not easy to understand, the story is keeping you on edge all the time, there are tons of potential triggers and I still couldn't keep myself from giving this book a try - that's what the name of Marie Sexton does.

And it was a breathtaking read - I have been suffering with these two boys and I really wanted them to be happy. There is so much darkness i

Somebody once told me it isn’t enough to slay your demons. You gotta dissect those bastards. Cut open their bellies and see what they’ve been feeding on.

Finally, I jumped off the cliff and read my first mm romance. As expected, I loved it just as much. Marie Sexton lives in Colorado. She’s a fan of just about anything that involves muscular young men piling on top of each other. In particular, she loves the Denver Broncos and enjoys going to the games with her husband. Her imaginary friends often tag along. Marie has one daughter, two cats, and one dog, all of whom seem bent on destroying what remains of her sanity. She loves them anyway.
