This book focusses on the Confederate prison at Cahaba, Alabama. It is an excellent resource for anyone interested in learning about this pris, also known as Castle Morgan. For most, the prison was a stop on the way to more notable prisons, like Andersonville. This author spent most of his confinement there. He provides a good physical description of the prison and the trials faced by those confined there. His personal story is one of patriotism, survival and tenacity. We owe a debt to all who endured the challenges of such a confinement.
Excellent book for those who love history and want to read about what the Civil War prisoners were experiencing and thinking while captive. I needed to have a dictionary near because they used some words back then that are little used today. The experiences of those at Cabaha prison were every bit as bad or worse than Andersonville. Very interesting read.
