A charming retelling of Shakespeare's beloved tragedy, brought to you by the cuddly stars of A Guinea Pig Pride & Prejudice.
A Guinea Pig Romeo & Juliet tells the tragic tale of two star-crossed guinea pigs who fall in love at first nose twitch.
When Romeo and Juliet meet in a crowded ballroom, they don't realize that their families are sworn enemies. Later that night, Romeo overhears Juliet declaring her love for him from her balcony, and the two hatch a plan to marry and escape. But their great romance is ruined by the family rivalry, which tears them apart and leads to their tragic demise.
Portrayed with great heart by a darling cast of guinea pigs in adorable period costumes, A Guinea Pig Romeo & Juliet is Shakespeare as you've never seen him before.
4.5 ✰ ׂ╰┈➤ no spoilers My first read of 2025! It was so good it got me out of my reading slump 🥳🥳🥳 The guinea pigs were so cute. I rated it higher than I did the original Romeo and Juliet only because it got me out of a slump, was really cute and light considering it was a Romeo and Juliet re-telling and there was a guinea pig called Sherlock (who was Friar Lawrence). I also liked that they still had a lot of the Shakespearian language there.
I might have actually enjoyed studying this play in school if it had been presented by such gorgeous little Piggies. There are beautifully captured photographs of the Guinea Pigs in period costumes & settings. The essence of an otherwise tedious read was wonderfully summarised. Reading magic! I believe there are other classics told the Guinea Pig way. I will have to track them down.
Such an adorable little book! This would be the perfect stocking-filler for any guinea pig (or Shakespeare) lover, and I think it would actually be a really good way to introduce someone young to Romeo and Juliet and not intimidate them with Shakespeare's language.
An adorable delight, combining surprisingly elaborate costumes with a nicely abridged version of the classic story. The photographs are excellent, the guinea pigs earnest, and the whole thing is a lovely little treat!
Genius!! So much must have gone into the costumes and getting the guineas to wear them without chewing them to smithereens! They show a placidity and patience as they "act" out the famous scenes in Shakespeares classic. Lots of fun and very endearing for all guinea pig lovers out there!!
Very cute. Even though you may know the story of Romeo and Juliet, this guinea pig adaptation of is a tearjerker....animal lovers beware...you may shed a tear.
A too-cute overview of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet accompanied by photos of IRL guinea pigs in traditional costume. If you love guinea pigs, this is for you!
