Six years ago, Grey Malteer was attacked by creatures he thought couldn’t possibly exist. They repeated a word, calling him a name he’d never heard before…Venator. Since then, his life has been a hellhole of secrecy—hiding old pain alongside strange new abilities.

Rune Jenkins has an itch, as she calls it, but it’s more than that. It's an anger that builds up like the

Attacked by creatures that can’t possibly exist 6 years ago, Grey hides strange new abilities. Whenever Rune’s around anything remotely supernatural, an angry pressure builds and she wants to know why… before she loses control. By order of an unknown council they are pulled through a portal into an alternate dimension where creatures of myth and legend exist. A realm that calls them, Venators.

Once again, I am blown away by Devri Wall's writing style and how she weaves these amazing stories with such creative and unique worlds and such interesting characters. First The Solus Series, then The Wizard's Heir and now this- Venators: Through the Arch- all which I have enjoyed immensely.

Venators was such a fun and captivating read. Such a unique take on the paranormal/fantasy genre. I really enjoyed every thing this story had to offer- the unique world building, the characters that continue

Hey guys, so I just finished Venators:Magic Unleashed(used to be Through The Arch) (#1) by Devri Walls. I have no idea why it took me so long to read this amazing novel. Seriously, I loved her other series, why did I have any doubt that I wouldn't enjoy this one? Silly me. So obviously, I loved this novel. It was descriptive, but I liked how...causal it was. It wasn't too fancy or hard to read. The description added essential background information to the characters that I grew to love. Oy, let ...more

I was one of the lucky people who got this book send and signed by the author to write an honest review.
Thank you so much, Devri Walls!

So first of all, I love fantasy and new worlds! This book takes you into a magical new world were all legends come to life. That kind of reminded me of the shadowhunters quote "all legends are true", but trust me there is soo much more in the world of Eon. It's a parallel dimension where every creature you could think of exists and even beyond that.

The two main

Back in 2016, I read and blogged about Venators: Through the Arch, which was later picked up by a new publisher, given a re-write, a spiffy new cover, and was re-born as Venators: Magic Unleashed . I haven't read that old post in a long time, and won't until I finish with this one, I'm only linking out of habit. I hate to say it, but I remember very little about the original version of this book beyond a vague grasp of

This was such an awesome first book to the series. It had me completely hooked from page one until the very end which doesn't usually happen.
It was so easy to get into because it started out in our world so I wasn't thrown into some world full of magic and creatures that was hard to understand. It was so easy to read. I flew through the first half in 2 days. The only reason it took me a week to read is because I got a puppy!
I really liked the characters. Even though at times we were given a

I haven't gotten a chance to read book two, but this first book I flew right through!

This was a fantastic book for me to dive into for this author! I am officially a HUGE fan.

I was completely enthralled and I could not put this down. I swear I am HOOKED GUYS. As soon as I write this up I plan to go dive into my ARC of book two.

I fell for these characters. I was absolutely in love with them. We meet an absolute ton of them in this book, but I honestly had no issue staying with who we were

This book is a thrilling ride of hard-hitting battle scenes and deep relationships. I was immediately pulled in by Grey's woundedness, and how he seems shy but is actually a crossbow-wielding, muscle-bound badass hiding behind that shaggy haircut. Yes, please! And can I have two?

The world is complex, but I found it easy to follow the new characters, friends and enemies that Rune and Grey make along the way as they get themselves repeatedly into trouble battling new beings and quickly get caught

Venators is going down as my favorite Devri Walls novel so far! When I talked to Devri last fall, she said her next book would have a little bit of everything in it... and she wasn't kidding! Vampires, dangerous werewolves (not like the kind I see in so many other novels lately), fairies, goblins, dragons.... you name it, it's there! But, it's not "too much" either. Devri creates the world in a way that it all fits together, so it's not just a pile of mish-mash thrown together hoping to reach a ...more

"A Venator, Genetically Modified Humans. The Law. A target"

Hey guys, So I finished (again) Magic Unleashed (Venators 1) by Devri Walls. I honestly can't give this book enough praise. it is absolutely amazing. Stunning. Epic. THis book has all the elements needed for a fantastic story. It has action, adventure, some humor, some secrets, lots of danger, deception, and DRAMA. And you know me, I love drama. And there were even sprinklings of the

I rather enjoyed this first book in the Venators series. It's a dark, YA portal fantasy featuring vampires, werewolves, Fae, succubi, incubi, dragons, goblins and a new race of genetically modified humans called Venators.

TW: gore, violence, beheadings, some language and trauma, including sexual abuse

Stuff I Liked:
1. The idea of there being a portal to an alternate dimension located in the St. Louis arch is pretty brilliant.

2. I really loved the character of Gray and the fact that this story

First of all, thank you Devri Walls for yanking me out of my reading slump. I was initially cautious to read this, simply because I know Devri's husband "in real life". I'd met Devri once before, but I've always been worried about reading the work of friends or acquaintances because a) what if I hated it and b) what if I read the narrative IN THEIR VOICE?

I did notice that it occasionally took me a few minutes to "get into" the story and stop overthinking the fact that the author was indeed a

An action-packed pager-turner! Devri Walls is setting up what promises to be an amazing series with Magic Unleashes, the first part of a Venators series.

What is a Venator you ask? A Venator is quite powerful as it turns out and is immune to vampire bites, fae magic, and werewolf venom - amongst other things. They are the enforcers of the law in another realm and beings to be feared. Except they are all but extinct in this other realm. Grey is beginning to discover his Venator abilities in the

I think I've found a new love! This was a super exciting read. The storyline was easy to follow and the characters are super likable (except for a certain brother in the beginning). I loved the way the author introduces the goblins, they're absolutely creepy in a delightful way. The details in this book blew my mind, especially Tate's fighting scenes and their world. Theres so many questions I have? I'm sort of excited that there may be romance between Grey and Rune but they don't seem too ...more

A new fantasy novel to love!

Anyone that enjoys a great fantasy novel will love Venators! Walls creates a lush and sometimes frightening alternate world. Her characters are well developed, Rune was my favorite. I gave this novel 5 stars because it was wonderful to read.
Walls sucks you into the story and holds your attention to the last page. Each character had their own mysterious past and I really enjoyed learning their history as the story progressed. Walls is able to hold on to mystery and

I enjoyed this new fantasy book. The story is captivating and has plenty of adventure which is very important! The world building and character development is also really good. Really liked the way the author writes.

The multiple points of view threw me off a little, and there were some slow parts but that is to be expected from the first book in a series when we are getting introduced to this world and the characters.

To me, Venators kind of felt like a repeat. It was so basic, (not a fan of vampires and werewolves), boring, and I didn't really like any of the characters. But there were parts I enjoyed (such as snarky come-backs and Beltran), and I could tell a lot of effort went into the story. It was pretty hard to get through, and I ended up rushing to finish it so it would be out of the way not too awful, but not that great either. It was a bit of a disappointment ...more

I actually checked this book out of the library because the author who lives in a neighboring community, Meridian, Idaho, had been selected as Meridian's best author for last year. My dog apparently disliked the cover art work and ate it. Which of course meant I needed to purchase it from the library so they could buy a new copy. Fortunately, I liked the book and have shared it with several family members and actually bought the second book in the series to do the same. Fun fantasy series.

dnf this book at page 54. I met the author at a book signing she was doing at my job and she was so nice and lovely, so i was hyped for this book, but i was trudging through those 54 pages. i so badly wanted to finish it but found myself picking up other books instead.

(no rating, seeing as i barely made it through)

The world building of this book is amazing. We have every race possible and it leaves you in haze every time. But that meant the main characters were not so well characterized and maybe fell in second place. It was filled with action and twists a little predictable. But the writing style make it an easy and pleasant read. .5 ...more

WOW, What a great series and I can't wait to read book 2!! I liked the way Rune protected her twin brother, but felt Ryker needed to grow up and stop depending on her to take him home after he got drunk from his weekly parties! I also liked Grey's determination to succeed when his stepfather beat him and said he was no good. Can these two young people be the answer to save humankind?

This was a good beginning to this series so it gets 4 stars for now. It at least has me interested enough to buy book 2 to see where this story goes.
