Confessions of a Red Herring by Dana Dratch is the first book in the new cozy A Red Herring Mystery series. In this series Alex Vlodnachek had spent years as a reporter but left that industry to work in a PR firm but never expected that move would land her straight into a murder investigation.

The CEO at Alex’s new agency turned up dead and all eyes landed on Alex as the one who had done the deed but when that also gets her fired from her job and broke Alex knows she needs to clear her name. The

This book had it all. A great mystery with twists and turns, a wacky family that provided some humour and chuckles without being over the top and a sassy, fun and interesting heroine.

There were some great suspects and I was all over the place with my guesses of who could have been the murderer. It was a fast paced mystery and Alex kept me hooked until the last page on her actions to discover the truth.

A great start to a new series and I am already looking forward to reading the next book in the

Alex Vlodnachek’s life is a mess, she left a job she had for years that she loved for a job that pays extremely well that she hates. She can’t believe her boss tried to get her to entertain a client in his hotel room. She turned her boss down flat and walked away. She even called in sick to work on Monday to try to wrap her head around the insanity and plot a new future. That was until the police knocked on her door to tell her that her boss had been killed and she was their

This was the most I ever laughed or had fun being nervous while I was reading about someone searching through an office to find intel on the bad guys and not get caught. I love this author's humor and enjoyed all the escapades that Alex and her friends and family got into.

There were so many awesome scenes, but I think my favorite had to be Alex meeting the handsome new B&B owner after a dentist appointment, and having Trip reminding her every five seconds to wipe her face which was numb from fi

Alex Vlodnachek’s Monday morning could not get any worse. She calls in sick from her job in a P.R. Firm, Coleman & Walters, after a disastrous Friday business dinner where her boss, Everett Coleman, offers her up as desert to sweeten a deal with a new client. After a heated public argument at the dinner, taking off Monday is a relief. That relief is short lived though when police officers show up knocking on her door giving her the news that Everett Coleman has been killed and she is wanted for ...more

Confessions of a Red Herring by Dana Dratch is the first book in the new Red Herring Mystery Series. After refusing to “play nice”, Alex loses her job…and nearly loses her freedom when she is framed for her former boss’s murder.

This book had lots of elements that I loved! A great mystery with lots of unsavory characters who could be the guilty party. I loved all the humor. So many great laugh-out-loud moments. Baba was a hoot! This is one of those books that I wanted to keep reading just as much

Confessions of a Red Herring by Dana Dratch is a lively and twisted mystery that I hope is only the beginning of a new series.

Alex Vlodnachek is a ex-reporter that thought she was making the right move into P.R. but it turned out to be a bad choice almost from the start. I really liked Alex. She is smart, spunky, stubborn and determined. She's been set up for a murder and she will find out who is behind it all. Her friend, Trip, is an absolute doll; and I want him for a best friend, too. Well written with an intricate plot, CONFESSIONS OF A RED HERRING is a good debut book for author Dana Dratch.

Ms. Dratch wasted no time getting to the murder in this whodunit. And, her protagonist, Alex Vlodnachek , found herself to be the lead suspect in the before the end of first chapter! While I love a fastmoving book, I would like to haven gotten to know Alex a bit more. As for the victim, I didn’t need any time to get to know him.He was very smarmy, and any number of people would have bee

I have mixed feelings about this mystery. On the one hand I love Alex Vlodnachek. She's a fun, vibrant, feisty character with an interesting family. I especially liked Baba. Alex finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation when an employee of the agency she works for is stabbed. Everyone seems to believe Alex did the deed. Alex decides to investigate the case to prove her innocence and find the guilty party. She does have some creative ways of sleuthing. The story is funny at times. Ho ...more

Alex Vlodnachek is having a rough day. She lost her job, was thought to be having an affair with her boss and is now a murder suspect.
That is just the tip of the iceberg in Confessions of a Red Herring.
A jealous wife, a mistress and an angry partner are the least of Alex's worries at first.
Her brother shows up at her door with a wife, who seems to have a questionable way of making money. Then her grandmother shows up and that's when things start to heat up in this 5 star winner.

A twisted story that will keep the reader on their toes. Red Herring in this story has a whole new meaning.
Alex has switched over from being a reporter to a P.R. It turned out not to be the bet move she has done. She has been set up of a murder and with her brother Nick, friend Trip, Her grandmother, Baba he is going to find out what happened.

The characters were great and I love Baba. You can’t beat a great grandmother with frying pans. Alex is spunky and stubborn which I like about her the mos

Alex Vlodnachek was a reporter who recently went into P.R. because the CEO offered her a salary she couldn't refuse. What she could refuse, however, is his offer to sleep with a client. After a very vocal argument at a local restaurant where she told him no, she discovers that he's been murdered that same weekend. Now she's not only on the hot seat, she's been fired from her job and the new CEO has threatened her with being sued and ruined her chances of ever getting another job. If Alex is to s ...more

Confessions of a Red Herring by Dana Dratch is the first to a new cozy mystery series. Murder, mayhem, and suspense all wrapped in one great plot. I instantly took a liking to the main character, Alex Vlondnachek. Her vibrant nature called to me. She's the woman I see myself being best friends with...she has seen,,heard, and witness enough craziness to tell anyone. Her work life is total chaos. This book was great! Honestly it wasn’t my normal genre- but I took a chance and so glad I did. The author writes a spunky mess of a girl and she kept me breezing through chapter after chapter. It was a great novel and I can’t wait for the second! I even let my mother in law read it, she reads a lot of mystery and she liked it too! The end was one I didn’t expect and the author didn’t disappoint. If you’re looking for a funny girl who will make you feel light hearted well look no further!!

When I started this book I wasn't too sure if I was going to like the story or seemed to drag (but could have been my mood).  But once I was better acquainted with the characters and the story picked up steam, I fell in love with it all.  The term "red herring" takes on a whole new meaning with this book.  This book has it all - crazy family members, insane former employers, humorous situations, and a wild mystery all rolled into one.  I don't know if I can choose a favorite char ...more

Alex Vlodnachek is the sleuth of this story. She was a reporter (at low pay) for many years. Just a few months ago, Alex left her newspaper job for a high-paying job in public relations. The PR firm she works for leaves a lot to be desired. They push their employees to work crazy hours and seem to fire them fairly quickly.

When the boss tries to “give” Alex to a client for a night, Alex chews him out in public and figures she is out of a job. When the boss turns up murdered, Alex becomes the numb

Fun! This is the first installment in a new series, and I'm happy to say I'm looking forward to book #2. I liked the characters and their development, and I honestly wasn't sure who the criminal was until the final reveal. In some ways, this book reminded me of early Evanovich, with the wacky family members and ongoing issues for our heroine. However, there's no Lula, and a lot less foul language. There is, however, a crazy grandmother, Baba, who I really liked.

And then there's Lucy, the little

This light and humorous cozy mystery is an enjoyable read, a bit slow in places but entertaining with off-beat characters. Alex goes from a long time reporter to a PR Representative to being a prime murder suspect. Her boss is stabbed and her co-workers cast her as a suspect. She eventually goes undercover to try to unmask the murderer. The first of a series. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Goodreads Giveaways for an honest review.

You know a book is a hit when (a) you smile when you first get into it because you realized you recognize the characters from a previously read title in the series, and (b) the first action you take the second you finish is to go check if there are any other titles in the same series! I accidentally read Book #2 before Book #1 and it didn't matter. Both books stand on their own just fine but they are terrific together. Highly recommended. ...more
