A beautiful series of essays and lectures, the first half by Maclean the former professor, the second half by a variety of other writers about Maclean and his works, including luminaries such as Wendell Berry, Pete Dexter and Wallace Stegner. Now I have to go back and reread Maclean's wonderful stories for the third time!

If you are familiar with the author's work, you will find some interesting commentary, but some of the essays are a bit boring.

Two fine gentlemen found this out-of-print gem last summer (2008) in the best bookstore in West Yellowstone. I've picked it up many times since then and have worked my way through most of its anecdotes, lectures and essays. All of these offer insightful, nostalgic and clear glimpses into the life of a fine and "beautiful" writer and person.
