Her second book "Life, Love and Vintage Housekeeping" is now available...
Fall is MY favorite season! The colors and the super blue skies. This short book is such an inspiration and so full of wonderful ideas and thoughts to get you so excited over the changing of season. I will read it again and again. I definitely want to read her others. During this difficult time of fighting covid...this book takes you to appreciate the great gifts of nature, family and good fall cooking as well as nature crafts. This is a time to read all the books you have ever wanted to get to and enjoy the first fire of the season. For such a short book, it really makes you feel happier for the many priceless gifts of this season. I will revisit this solitude which Alison May has brought to my attention over and over these next few months! Thank you Ms. May.
I enjoyed this little book and the ideas in it. Little is the correct word though. It's more of an idea starter than actual information or something to read. It did fill me with inspiration though and I plan to read the other ones when the season changes.
Oh, I love Alison's lovely way of writing. She's both old-fashioned and completely modern. The list at the start of this book made me sigh with pleasure.
I love Alison May's books and 'The Autumn House' did not disappoint me. It is a lovely little book; certainly it could have been much longer, but it feels more like a spell to conjure up the season than anything else.
Alison May's long description of all that autumn brings at the beginning of the book is beautiful, evocative, and meditative and the rest of the book is full of gentle suggestions for activities, writing prompts, autumn reading, and recipes etc. Just lovely.
This book allows you to invite in the season of autumn into your home with some inspiring tips, and prompts. It was a little shorter than I had anticipated but still a lovely little guide to making your home cosy-er. I love that the theme seemed to be biased towards more natural elements rather than artificial decor.
It was a short and sweet book about the spirit or feel of autumn. It wasn't a poetry book, but it was written in a similar way that poetry usually is with cute blocks of sentences. Not bad, but not what I was hoping for which is why the 3 stars. If you're looking for a book to help bring the autumn spirit in your home, I would recommend this.
The Autumn House is more of a seasonal inspirational read. I found it on my kindle, it wasn't very long, and it looked interesting at the time. I do have the other seasons to read and will try to fit them in this year, in the correct season. It was a pallet cleanser between more serious books. I would recommend.
And once again I am ready for another approaching season with the help of Miss May, I am ready to do battle with my home and get it Autumn ready. Wonderful series of books.
I really wanted to like this book and started here with a mind to get the whole series but it’s so sparse that it really should have been a blog post. Perhaps it’s designed to be a cute little paperback and the effect is lost on kindle...
I truly enjoyed this quick read. Autumn is my favorite time of the year. The author's style was interesting, like a friendly gush on the season's bounty. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
Subtle support for secularism in author’s language (example: physical world is called “Mother Nature”). I liked the ideas for Autumn decor and activities, esp the DIY decor ideas made with items easily found outside. Read with discernment.
I enjoy these short little books to set the mood for the upcoming season. They're free with Kindle Unlimited.
And for ourselves there is the opportunity to reinvent our evenings. To break a screen addiction or to practise a new set of soothing bedtime asanas. Yes. Autumn is our opportunity to start again.
I'm not sure how much I might use from The Autumn House this year, but it certainly helped get me in the spirit. And wouldn't it be lovely to live that lovely, puttery life?
