Kiely knows she is famous! The paparazzi (her parents) follow her every move, documenting with cameras. It’s exhausting being famous, but someone has to do it! She even gets to perform a big song at her grandfather’s birthday. When she messes it up, she’s worried she’s lost her audience forever, but it turns out that no one is as loyal as her fans who love her.

With all the videos and photos her parents have posted online and all the things that have been purchased for her and all the things other people do for her, Kiely has concluded that she has been famous since she was born. The illustrations are beautiful and fun. A new Fancy Nancy.

Hello, friends! Our book today is I Am Famous, written by Tara Luebbe and Becky Cattie and illustrated by Joanne Lew-Vriethoff, a tale of a precocious young starlet and her life of glitz and glamour.

Kiely has been famous all her life. She’s a singer, and actress AND a dancer, plus a style icon and social media star. The paparazzi – also known as her parents – follow her everywhere, always there

Kiely has been famous since the day she was born. The paparazzi, her parents, record her every move. Her fans, family, send her fan mail. Then on the day of her biggest show, grandpa's birthday, she totally freezes. But no one minds, and Kiely learns that she is still loved.

I adored this book. It was such a delight. Kiely is a dynamic girl destined to become a big star. She brought a smile to my face from cover to cover. Every little girl is going to be able to relate to Kiely and her desire to be the center of attention and showing off all her skills (which she has lots). It is a story I know all the kids in my class will adore.

The protagonist of I AM FAMOUS is a delight! Full of spunk and teeming with self-confidence Kiely was born for the spotlight. However, do not be tricked into thinking this is a story about being famous. It is in truth a lovely story about being vulnerable.

A life of praise and adulation has set Kiely up for constant attention and praise. However, when she takes the stage for her big performance, she is met with the stark realization that no amount of fame can protect one against the perils of be

I was gifted the book, I Am Famous, by the author, Tara Luebbe, to review for Multicultural Children's Book Day. This is a delightful picture book, published by Albert Whitman & Company, and written by Tara Luebbe and Becky Cattie. The protagonist is a young African-American girl who is filled with confidence and spunk, believing herself to be a bit of a celebrity-at least in the eyes of her parents. The bright, colorful illustrations reveal the underlying story behind Kiely's description of ...more

Thanks to the Kid Lit Exchange for the review copy of this book. As always, all opinions are my own.

Rarely does a first skim of a book bring me so much joy, but I smiled through every page turn when I opened I AM FAMOUS at the post office last week.

I AM FAMOUS features a toddler triple threat—she sings, she dances, she acts, and everyone in her family is there for it. She was born famous, with her every move captured in photos and on video. She calls the shots, and her parents are (mostly) happ

Kiely is a superstar, a celebrity, a diva, and has been since she was born. She gets fan mail, all of her movies go viral, an she is always being followed by the paparazzi. She even has her own chef, driver, housekeeper, and stylist. Kiely is really a big deal, especially when she performs, but what happens when things do not go quite right at her concert?

In our era of smartphones, tablets and social media it seems even the youngest of toddlers knows how to take a "selfie". Parents are posting videos of their children being silly and sharing "snaps" of them playing dress up or singing along to their favorite song. This book shares the silliness of documenting our child's every move from their perspective.

Kiely is famous....or she assumes she must be. The paparazzi (her parents) follow her everywhere with a camera and she can go online and see her

Kiely, a young curly-haired brown-skinned girl, believes she is a celebrity, and why wouldn't she? She's an actress, a singer, a dancer, and she even has the paparazzi following her around, photographing and video recording everything she does. Naturally, being such a famous person, Kiely is asked to perform at her Grandpa's birthday party - and to a packed house no less. But will her fans desert her when she forgets the words to the song she's singing, or when she falls during her dance number? ...more

Little Kiely was cherished when she was born. Her parents knew she was there little star. This little star likes to play dress-up in her mom’s clothes. She also likes to sing and dance. And when she is playing princess her dad treats her like a diva. When she was a baby she screamed and yelled when she didn’t get her way, but Kiely just thought that she had a unique style. She always thought that she got special treatment and she did. She was chauffeured around, received free cookies from the ba ...more

Kiely, surrounded by devoted family and friends, is confident that her celebrity status is widespread and well-deserved in I AM FAMOUS, the first picture book from prolific story sisters Luebbe and Cattie.
Kids will cackle at super-cool Kiely’s misperceptions. She continually interprets the behavior of her doting family – posting videos, taking photos, indulging her whims - as signs of her special stardom. But what will the spunky mini-diva do when she stumbles and stops sparkling in the pressure

Kiely was born to be a star and has the talent, personality, and style to prove it. Between her devoted staff (Mom and Dad), fan club (Grandparents), and fledgling movie career (home videos), Kiely knows she’s something special and sagely declares that dealing with the pesky paparazzi is simply “the price of fame.” When it’s time for her big performance at Grandpa’s birthday party, however, Kiely bungles her song and botches her dance moves, and worries that her “career” is over. I think just about every child feels "famous" in some degree thanks to their parents. I know my own mother tried to document all the things with at least one picture and I try to do the same. After all, our children are the stars of the show known as our lives.

The star of this book, Kiely has parents who also like to document all of the things. They are her own paparazzi. It doesn't state that they are

Kiely, our main character is a girl of many talents and she knows how to use them. She’s an actress, singer and dancer. Because of all the special treatment she receives from family and others, she declares she’s famous. I love this because all little girls should feel like they are a star. What a wonderful place this world would be if every little girl felt this way.

Favorite line-“I have my own chef, driver, and housekeeper.” (Moms wear many hats.)

Kiely's belief that she is truly famous is a hoot. She's been the center of her parents' lives since she was born--so naturally they are her adoring fans. I love how she interprets the everyday (such as a letter from grandma or a drive with her parents) into celebrity moments (fan mail and her own personal chauffeurs). The illustrations are so fun and Kiely's many expressions are really priceless. She performs at her grandpa's birthday party after her lively introduction to her famous self, and ...more

I Am Famous by @taraluebbe and @beckycattie is a really cute book. You basically get to see how the kids REALLY view their parents and family members! This little girl thinks she is very famous because everyone is always snapping photos and giving her applause. The illustrations are ADORABLE! The cover alone makes this book leap off the shelf, and the cute kiddo inside is so full of life, her personality so expressive, that it's a pretty joyful read overall. However, my only reservation is how full it is of showbiz jargon, idioms, and references that will fly over most young readers' heads, even if they're partnering with an adult reader who can provide some guidance. It's clever, but in a winking, knowing way that I fear only grownups will really get.

Move over, Fancy Nancy, and make way for a new star! Precocious little Kiely's every move is followed by the paparazzi, and her parents' videos all go viral. This is a cute and fun story for every little diva, and the parents who love them. I particularly love the hollywood-esque image of Kiely riding in her carseat with palm trees in the background, declaring "I have my own chef, driver, and housekeeper." Little Kiely --who sings, dances, and has "a flair for the dramatic" -- knows that she's famous and pampered ("I have my own chef, driver, and housekeeper" -- hah!) Trailed by her "paparazzi" parents, she confidently takes the stage to perform at her grandpa's birthday party. When a humiliating incident occurs, her extended family reminds her that they appreciate her, no matter what. A friend of mine shared a story with me the other day about visiting her son's school and a fellow mom commented on something she shared about her son online. Her son stopped in his tracks and asked, "How did you know that?" and her youngest replied, "Because you're Facebook Famous!" In an era of cell phones and Snapchat selfies and Instagram, I think most young kids can relate to the protagonist in this book - feeling like the center of attention in her home, and imagining her fame outside her ...more

I kind of wish I hadn't read Famously Phoebe first. Both of them have very similar premises, and I think I would have liked this one more (and better than the other) if I weren't distracted by the "isn't this the same....." problem.
This one's not at all about siblings, though, but about stage fright, messing up, and finding out your family still loves you.

This short story has a big voice. Kiely knows all about being a star and is happy to share her wisdom with readers. Clearly the limelight loves Kiely just as much as she loves it, and her adoring fans (mom, dad, grandparents) are happy to help her on the way with humor and love.

Kiely is sassy without being snide. She's bold without being bratty...okay maybe she is a bit of a diva. Still it's easy to cheer for her in this story both parents and kids will enjoy. The text is spunky but simple enoug

The authors who stirred up the waters with Shark-Nate-O have done it again! From the opening spread, I Am Famous is the essence of adorableness. Little Kiely’s pizzazz and spunk are masterfully captured in both the text and illustration. But all is not red carpet and sunglasses for the starlet, as her biggest performance sets the stage for a heartwarming ending, reminding us that some things are more important than fame.

In I Am Famous, sassy Kiely is the center of her adoring family's attention, leading her to believe she is famous. Kids and their parents will recognize themselves in this sweet and funny story. Kiely is adorable with the perfect amount of sass. She is especially lovable when she is at her most vulnerable. In the end, while this story highlights the fun and funniness of being the center of attention, it will leave kids with a sweet reassurance that family loves us no matter what happens.

This is a funny, adorable book about a famous little girl. (Comment from the kids - “she’s not really famous, she just thinks she is.”)

You may know a little girl like Kiely.

This is a great book for fans of Starring Carmen and Fancy Nancy, and it shares a little something with The Boss Baby - except with showbiz language rather than business language.

A quick read, perfect for short story times.

Recommend it for preschoolers & young elementary students. The kids enjoyed it.

In the age of social media when so much of our lives are posted in videos and photos on Facebook and Instagram, this book is a humorous poke at all of those parents who have made their kids “famous”. The little girl in this book has been photographed and recorded throughout her entire life. But the book acknowledges that her adoring fans, her parents’ friends and family, love her no matter what. The fun, colorful illustrations and the clever text makes this a cute book to have on the shelf.

I Am Famous is a delight! The young "star" of the book is followed by paparazzi parents (we can all relate, I think). She serves up her own diva attitude, but realizes that she doesn't need to impress her family to be loved. Some very funny moments, illustrated perfectly, will inspire laughs.

I reviewed an advanced copy of the book.
