This study of Pre-Raphaelite painters and poets reveals a style-derived from the idealized view of nature in the early Italian Renaissance-steeped in mythology and literary allusion and very popular today with lovers of romantic art and poetry. 125 illustrations, 95 in full color, 5 x 7"
While there was nothing especially stunning or remarkable about Des Cars’ treatment of the history of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, the book was concise and informative and a good simple introduction to the origins, philosophies and figures of the Pre-Raphaelite movement.
This is another I'm reading again. It's a tiny little thing that covers the history of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, many of their paintings, historical photos, and documents associated with the various members.
A few caveats... photos of the paintings/sketches are glorious but small. The text is two sizes of tiny. Also, it only skims the surface of their muses & models, and fem artists.
