At first I was a bit worried I wasn't going to enjoy this, but surprise, I did ended up liking it - including the characters who I didn't really warm up to until second quarter of the book or so.

Full review to follow.

Many thanks to Entalngled Pub for this review copy in Exchange for an honest review.

Investigations by the FBI usually make great thrillers but when you add in that the Special Agent in this story is also an ancient, powerful vampire you have the recipe for a brilliant paranormal thriller and that is certainly the case in this story! The Agent concerned is Seb Rikare and he's heading to Meiers Corner, which used to be the home town of Brie Lark, an artist who also works for the FBI. She's reluctant to return to Meiers Corner after her relationship with a different vampire broke ...more

When I saw the synopsis of Night’s Caress, I knew I needed to read this one. It sounded like something I would love, offering some of my favourite things – namely the FBI and vampires. Of course, I was excited to dive in.

Despite being the first book in The Ancients series, I did not realise this series is actually a spinoff of the Biting Love series. Due to this, there were quite a few things throughout the book that did not resonate with me as strongly as I would have liked. This book works per

Brie, an artist, escaped her ex and hometown and ran to New York City. Her promises to herself? She wasn't going back to Meiers Corners and she was done with vampires, her ex ruining the whole species for her. However, Brie's boss at her bill paying job, the FBI, has other plans. So, back home she goes, undercover, hoping to solve a murder case. Another self promise is in jeopardy due to the mutual attraction between Brie and her new partner.

Plot: 4/5

The first book in the series but I'm assuming that its an offshoot of another series by the author judging from the way it was written and quite a few fan service to other couples and characters. However, they are kept to a minimum and newbies to the world would not find it hard to catch up on who is who.

Seb needed an in to Meiers Corner where coming in alo

Received in exchange for a honest review.

This was sensual, twisty and plain hot. Seb Rikare wowza. that vampire is just pure wow. He locks his heart up tight though due to an ex that really crushed him. but it wasn’t because of love he was crushed. He was more crushed due to her not loving him which I find incredulous. Yes he could seem cold but that man underneath the exterior is sweet, kind, caring, attentive and tender. He treats Brie with respect and understanding. He doesn’t push himself on

In this first volume of The Ancients series, the author introduces us to Brie, who’s working as a civil support but wants to join the FBI as a forensic artist, when she must go back to her native area to be the cover forSeb, a vampire FBI agent investigating a succession of murders by exsanguinations.

My main problem with this novel comes from the author’s style. She decided to write the chapters with Seb’s

This was my first read by this author and it won't be my last!

Whilst I hadn't read the series this is an offshoot of -Biting Love- I didn't feel lost at not knowing all the characters from previous books. This is definitely Seb and Brie's story.

Brie is a small town woman who fled a wastrel ex and joined the FBI. But wouldn't you know it that only male who stokes her interest is another Vamp, just like duh-wreck (love that nickname!). She tries to dodge him at every turn but when she is "requeste

The only complaint I had on this wonderful new series was the alternate POVs. It is told equally in 1st person by Brie and then third person from Seb's perspective. And as much as I hated the jar out of reading bliss each time this happened, I'm still giving it five stars. I love, love, love this type of paranormal romance. Of all the romances I read, and there are bookoos of them, this is my go to all time favorite read. I love the vampire world building by the author and loved both Brie and Se ...more

FBI special agent Seb Rikare is an ancient vampire and investigating a string of murders that look like vampire kills. This is bad because he has to hide the cause from the humans and stop war from breaking out between the vampire clans.
Brie Lark is an artist who works for the FBI as a civilian. She is asked to take Seb to her home town. A place she couldn't wait to get away from.
This story is almost non stop action. Some of the fights are really gory as you would expect from vampires. Our bra

Mary Hughes is a new author for me and I’m very happy I was given the opportunity to review her latest work. I discovered about half way through Night’s Caress (Ancients #1) that it is a spin-off from her series Biting Love. However, there is no need to have read this series first; Night’s Caress works perfectly well on its own and does not rely on the reader having any previous knowledge. I enjoyed it immensely and had no problems falling into that world, but the characters introduced were so i ...more

A story of vampire politics and love. The strength of finding a mate and the pain of rejecting the same.

When Brie is assigned to go back to her hometown with fellow FBI special agent Seb she just hopes it gets her the promotion she wants. Never did she ever think that she would be involved in vampire politics. But she finds herself in the middle. And she might be the one surprising Seb.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Going back to her hometown was something Brie Lark swore she'd never do, but there's no way Brie can pass up helping FBI Special Agent Seb Rikare with his investigation into a series of murders. However, he's a vampire and Brie swore never to give another vampire a chance not after what her ex did. But the further into the investigation the pair get, the higher the risk of Brie getting hurt unless Seb can protect her. Will the pair be able to survive the danger closing in on them to achieve thei

I haven't read anything by this author before, and looking on her site I noticed this might be a spin off from a former series, this doesn't detract in any way from the book, but it did make me want to read the other series after this one.

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Sci-fi and Fantasy, Romance

Looking up info on this book I remembered  I'd read several of Mary's Biting Love series, and as its an Entangled publication I was pretty sure I'd like this. Sadly though its a fail, I just couldn't get into the story and DNF.

I didn't feel anything more than Lust between Brie and Seb, and got irritated at her constant references to her V-guy ex ( and I really, really hated that phrase!!) I didn't

I received a copy of this e-book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Brie couldn't wait to get out of Meier's Falls, leaving behind small town ways and an ex-boyfriend who happened to be a vampire. She goes to NY City and before she knows it her job has assigned her to work with Seb on a case that could start a vampire war. Murders are happening and they seem to lead bck to Brie's home town. She doesn't want to work with him as she feels he is cold and arrogant but extremely sexy and als

A paranormal romance about the uncanny partnership between an ancient, alpha vampire and sassy female who is his reluctant partner.

Mary Hughes has written an immersive novel that makes you feel as though you are right in Meiers Corners yourself. Very well-developed scenery. Unfortunately, I did not feel the characters were given as much due. Seb is difficult to warm up to. Brie is better, but it still took me some time. Then there is the way the book was written - Seb's part was writte

Seriously, is there anything better than agreeing to review a book from an author you don’t know and discovering the book totally rocks? I can’t even remember why I agreed to review Night’s Caress. I do enjoy fantasy books now and again, but only if there is a real story to be told. And man, is there a story to be told here.

The story was complicated, exciting, and just a bit scary. There were lots of twists and turns with regards to the murders as well as the love story. The murder/mystery did

Night's Caress (The Ancients) Book #1 by Mary Hughes is a highly entertaining and engaging book. I found the storyline interesting and the characters complex. A plot that is full of mystery, lust, pain, loss, passion and romance snags your attention and keeps it. A beautiful love story of fated mates that fight their attraction and emotions as they have both been hurt before. Seb, an ancient vampire, comes across as deeply cold and detached. Night’s caress is the third book in the series but can be read as a standalone. This is my first book by this author and I most certainly enjoyed it . The story is action packed, it has a great storyline and has awesome steamy scenes. Brie is running from her past . She has very carefully reconstructed her life. She is still heartbroken by her vampire ex. Her vow is to never go out with another vampire again. Fate isn't going to let that happen though. We meet seb who is a gorgeous fbi agent and ...more

Night's Caress is the first book in The Ancients series by author Mary Hughes. I found this to be a super sweet read. I adored this one.
Seb is an ancient vampire. Hardened by losing someone close to him. He has the power of suggestion.
He is tracking a serial killer who also happens to be a vampire. He prefers not to tamper with people’s minds unless he absolutely has too.
Brie has moved to NY to escape the memory of her vampire ex. When she has to go undercover as Seb’s lover to help catch a kill

Meh. Don't get me wrong. This author told a well paced, smoothly flowing paranormal romantic mystery. But she goes wrong when she gets to the sex part, where she freely uses euphemisms and slang and writes cheezy, unbelievable scenes that make real people either squirm or roll their eyes. Realistic, plain language would be nice, rather than using words that would get your teenager grounded for using. Ditto for making paranormal love making someho

It's been while since I've visited Meiers Corner and honestly I couldn't remember Brie...that being said it didn't take me long to fall into the story and enjoy it immensely. We get to see some of our fav MC couples and get an epic vamp battle, plus some scorching moments between Brie and Seb. If you haven't read any of the series to now you may be lost to some of the nuances to this wacky world but you'll love it I'm sure, and for series lovers..it's a must read!

Simply awesome. I always loved to read books with romance but it is even better when the romance has a paranormal twist. Hot and sexy vampire Seb meets once small town girl and know FBI agent Brie and sparks fly. This book had some amazingly hot scenes that made it feel like it was 100 degrees in here. I really enjoyed this book. It had some fun uniqueness going for it along with some well used mythical ideals; though some of those even had their own twist. The characters were entertaining and made me laugh at their dialogue. Seb is a soul injured man. He is broken and he doesn't even know it. Brie is a free spirited kind of woman and just what he needs to heal his very old wounds and bring him back to life. If only they can both stay alive to do it. This plot was so fun and suspenseful.
