When she’s not working with animals, Dobie Houson serves as director of marketing research for The Ken Blanchard Companies, a global consulting firm specializing in leadership and talent development. Her research has been published in many world-class academic journals.

Dobie Houson lives in Valley Center, California, north of San Diego, with her family, her animal companions and her lively horse, Bear.

I love stories that are written about animals, I don't care what size, shape, or size. All the short stories in this book will either bring you to tears or tug at your heartstrings, as you or anybody who reads this book that loves animals can relate to so many of the short stories Dobie wrote about. The first story in the book was about Barney a beagle (I just lost beagle mix 2 years ago) and how this dog saved his owner's life as the owner went through losing his bookstore and a few years later terrible divorce. Even many years after Barney's passing the owner still, has a soft spot in his heart and tears in his eyes when he thinks of Barney how he was such a special dog for him, and what Barney taught him about finding love, your true love. Barney also taught his owner what companionship could mean and what true happiness felt like. I know that is how I felt with my beagle mix, Peco, he taught me what companionship, love and just being a good friend is all about, he also taught my son what a great dog can do for a child that has health problems that he will always love my son no matter how badly he felt about his scoliosis. All the stories in this book are so touching as what their pets have brought to their owners or the people who interacted with them as horse or dog trainers, healers, or fosters. Dobie has a wonderful gift to be able to communicate with an animal that is passed or living to be able to know what our pets are thinking and feeling I wish all of us could experience. I am glad there are people on this earth like Dobie that can help us mere mortal understand our pets to help us help them as they pass through our lives, sometimes too quickly.

If you are now someone that doesn't like pets than recommend not to read this book or
this story and then you may or may not like this book. When our pets runaway or eve die
or escape we would start to question ourselves to figure out if it was us or not. So we
all start to think where our pets could have gone. Having pets of any kind make us get
us and take care of them and take them out when they need too as like dogs.

People that don't have pets will never understand what it means to have pets and having
pets is like having best friends. I am a pet owner and I love my dog because having her
forces me to get up and get things done for her.

The best quote that I really like is this...
" It was yesterday," she said. I was sitting at my desk, head down, banging out pose on my computer
and I hear these segueals of delight from out in the hall. I walked out to investigate and saw two
colleagues and saw two colleagues Ryan and Renee playing with the most adorable puppy I had ever
seen. Part dochshund, part chihuahua and just this darling little brown-and-black spotted bundle.
Im not a dog person but I knelt down, and he looked into my eyes, jumped right into my eyes, jumped
right into my lap and snuggled into me. I looked at Ryan and said " whose puppy is this.?"

I’ve been an animal lover for as long as I can remember. I have found memories of so many animals I can’t even begin to tell all of the stories. When I started reading this book I immediately connected with the different animals and their humans. Having a pet, be it a dog, cat, horse or other animal is unlike anything I’ve experienced. I’m sure parents will say that is the most amazing bond but I digress.
The stories in the book were heartwarming, funny, and in some cases rather sad. As someone who was recently forced to leave behind my two beloved cats, separation from a pet you have raised from a baby is heartbreaking. Like many of the animals, such as Bear, animals are far more than our most devoted friend and/or family member. They can become not only are most trusted confident but they can become a source of tremendous frustration when they choose.
I cannot recommend this book enough to those people that love animals and those that can take them or leave them. This book will leave you with a smile on your face. It will also leave a lasting mark on your heart, if you are like me.

Heartwarming stories.

Devotion: Humans and Their Four-Legged Soulmates by Dobie Houson is a collection of stories from the authors life about her work as someone who knows what animals are thinking and feeling. These stories are heartwarming. If you love animals and pets you should read this book. I cried at some of the stories in this book. I loved how each of the chapters tells a different story. All of the stories teach us about the companionship and friendship that we have with our pets.

I think that anyone who loves animals will love this book. I highly recommend it. Plus, a portion the proceeds from this book will go to help animals.
