*I received an ARC in exchange of an honest review.*

Phew! I'm glad I was able to read it in time. This is a great book. It toyed with me mentally. How? Here's how.

I was initially on Emmett's side because Jake was just being an insensitive jerk. Questioning and doubting and disregarding the struggles Emmett was going through. And I was so much pissed that I had already decided that I was not liking the book! But, you see, the author is very smart, as she somehow knew this was the track my mind we

This had a lot going on. Too much really.

Our couple is a biracial couple.
MC Emmet is a self-absorbed dyslexic football star.
MC Emmet denies his sexuality once he figures out that he is bisexual.
MC Jake is a brilliant student and a whiner.
MC Jake's parents have Downs Syndrome.

You would say these are some pretty big matzah balls rolling around out there right? Huge issues touched upon sparingly and with no foresight.

It wasn't enough for me to DNF however. I'm a glutton for punishment. I had t
If you like whiny characters, this book is for you. Jake will definitely deliver all the whining you could ever want.
Do you like egotistical, not able to make up their minds characters? Emmett is your guy.
I didn’t care much for this story. The two MCs were so obnoxious that I couldn’t enjoy it. Thankfully, it was free with Kindle Unlimited.

**3.5 Stars**

Up and Coming is the first Andrea Dalling book I’ve ever read. College football player Emmett Cross is an all-star. He’s on the fast track to being first or second draft pick. Facing your bisexuality and falling in love at the same time is quite daunting for him.

I understood Emmett in this. I was sympathetic to his stresses. Navigating ones sexuality in the sports world is terrifying. But how he handles it leaves a lot to be desired.

Jake is a genius. He’s so wonderful in every wa

Emmett thinks he straight. Then, realizes he's bisexual. When in reality, I would say, he actually REALLY IS GAY. (Reasons for that later-on.)

Plus, it's not just a "romp in the bed" type of book, either. It's got great wonderful characters who interact with all the different spheres and levels of society…Jake's p

This one was a mixed bag.

What I liked: the premise. Football player falls hard for another man, coming to realize he's bisexual, and trying to make it work, in spite of the issues related to football and inside his own head. (Not to erase the bisexuality, but he's written to be pretty fixated on only one woman in the time he was with her, and only one man in this book, so he's reading demisexual to me, but if Emmett says he's bi, he's bi.) And his love interest Jake has a lot more going on than

This is the first book in The Coastal College Football Series. A captivating book with great writing. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters wonderful. The characters were well developed and thought out. Emmett Cross and Jake Schott are the MC’s of this book. There was humor, football, a frat house, a club, a drunk girl, interesting families, disabilities and so much more in this book.

Here is a quote from the book, “I don’t deserve you.

💜👬 A very well-wrought, steamy and moving story with depth for the main characters, major obstacles and the promise of the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Emmett, a college football phenomenon set to reap fame and fortune in professional football, fights his attraction to Jake, a friend for years who suddenly becomes his obsession. Both men also hesitate to reveal important parts of their lives to prevent stigma and rejection. The author has injected a number of complex issues ...more

Jake and Emmett had been friends, or they knew each other, for three years. With only months until they both graduate, Emmett realizes that although he'd never been attracted to a man before, he can't keep his eyes and hands off Jake. The first time they kiss is explosive, but Emmett can't reconcile his feelings for Jake and pulls away. There's a lot of push and pull between the two of them. Emmett physically pulls back, while Jake thinks about how their relationship will survive all the obstacl ...more

A tough journey

This is a story of awakening feelings and deep seated longing. Emmett is the star of the college football team and 100% straight, yet, why is he suddenly feeling such a pull to his gay friend of 3 years Jake?
Jake has had a strong attraction to his straight friend since they met in their freshman year, and has crushed on him secretly all this time.
Follow their trials as they face prejudice and a fairly large closet!
A true coming of age story where both men have to face their own fear

had a great and very nice surprise with this one. It's not your usual jock/nerd love book, neither a instalove one.

Emmett and Jack must surpass a lot of obstacles and ups and down until they get a true relationship. The main of them, in my opinion, is the fact that Emmett thought himself a straight man all his life. Until Jack, that is. But he isn't ready to face all the changes that acknowledging this would cause in his life, so he pulls back and, in doing so, hurts Jack quite badly.

Omg this book was absolutely amazing. This book was a page turner that I just couldn't stop reading until the end. I had absolutely loved reading this book. This book is an m/m sports romance. This book is the story about Emmett and Jake. If you like reading m/m romances than I would highly recommend this book. I had voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book. ...more

Thorough and introspective gay-for-you, first-time-gay, friends to lovers, jock/geek romance with some privacy and disability issues thrown in. I don't usually enjoy most of the themes listed above, but this story was enjoyable if a bit repetitive and dizzying due to the constant back and forth. HEA ending. ...more

I didn’t leave stars because I quit at 40%. It takes a lot for me to not finish a book, but the characters were kind of awful and sort of treated each other like toxic high school sweethearts. Once I felt like the plot was moving forward, they’d have another repeat conflict and it got old real fast.

No...just no

Emmett couldn't make up his mind to save his life and got on my nerves so freaking bad! I mean dang figure it out already! He was jerking poor Jake around and around. The story was ok, just wasn't much to it for me.

I liked the premise of the book but I am not sure if the MCs could have any more problems. Sometimes less is more.

A wonderful book, it really puts the spotlight on how it is for gay/bi men in collegiate and professional sports. Emment is a college football player being scouted by the pros, everything is going fine until he falls for and starts dating Jake then his world is turned upside down. Emment is torn between the man he loves and the football career he and his family worked so had for. Emment is a good guy with a learning disability who has sacrificed and worked extra hard to get where he's at, he's n ...more

This is a "straight until he comes to the realization that he is bi-gay" story that seemed new and fresh. It was extremely well written and very enjoyable to read.
Well fleshed out characters and very believable. This story seems to do justice to the struggle that a straight college football player would face if/when he realizes that there is one person who makes him question the idea of who he has been his whole life. I liked that it was not written as if the character could just flip a switch a

Going places football star Emmett has suddenly discovered new feelings for an old friend, out and proud Jake. Jake has had a HUGE crush on Emmett for as long as he has known him and he cannot believe that Emmett is into him. Unfortunately, Emmett is terrified to come out and the straight guy hanging with gay friend lie is breaking Jake’s heart. Emmett has very good reasons for staying in the closet until he gets drafted, and his family is depending on him to bring in the big money, but what if i ...more

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

This was a 3.5* read for me.

I enjoyed the story but wanted more communication between the MCs. Like a lot of books half the book could have been re written if they had talked to each other.
I would have also liked to see more of the draft process and Jake deciding on which grad school to go to. And also the progression of the relationship. It seemed like they finished college and then at least 3-4 yrs had passed for the epilogue I would

So I have to be honest here, but Emmett and Jake annoyed me quite a bit throughout this book. I love the author's writing, and the overall story concept was interesting, but the wishy washy back and forth of "I want to be with you" and "I can't be with you" got old. Luckily the characters got their HEA, but I was pretty frustrated with them by the time they got there. I'm glad they finally did though. ...more
This is one I DNF. I decided to give it another shot. It's a hot mess with way to much going on. It's a lot of hot and cold drama. I was getting whiplash. I loved the possibility of this story. I really wanted to love these guys, but they just never could get it together. The writing was all over the place. This was a 2.5 star read for me. I rounded up because well it's football season and who doesn't like a good college quarterback. Read with caution. ...more

Break up get back together an repeat!

Reading this story is like playing with a yo-yo! Good friends have chemistry and decides to take the relationship to the next level but because one is a superstar athlete the closet is comfortable. Denton band breaking up with his boyfriend happened more than it needs to. Does in a hea but for now long? Maybe another book would be great. Worth the read!
I really enjoyed this book. Emmett, college quarterback, has his future planned out. Jake is hoping to be apart of said future. But there's a slight problem with Jake's dreams..Emmett is bi but he's not ready to let the world know. This causes some issues with him and Jake. This book was way better than I expected and I absolutely loved the ending. ...more

Great book that just touches on some of the issues that still need to be overcome. Hopefully one day those with closed minds will be a thing of the past.
