I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect of ‘A Cold Dark Promise’—the wedding novella of Alex Parker and Mal Rooney—except for the fact that it was a long time in coming, circling back to the original couple that sparked off the whole Cold Justice series. After all, Mal’s unending pregnancy was starting to feel like the official ‘measurement’ for the time it took for all of the series's characters to fall in love and get their HEA.

‘A Cold Dark Promise’ is nonetheless a special one: Alex Parker is t

Alex and Mallory from A Cold Dark Place are getting married! I don't know these characters, but I still enjoyed their story as if I had. The romance is there, but there is also suspense and they were combined in the right way. I enjoyed the book, even if I was worried that Alex wouldn't make it to his wedding. The book was good. I wish Jane had gotten together with her man in this book, but I guess that some good things have to happen in the next book. I wonder whose story is going to be.

I just love Alex and Mallory and was happy to see this second book about their wedding. Some more scary, edge-of-your seat situations here. Terrific!

As I have previously mentioned in other reviews for this series . I was late to the game but soon fell love with the characters and the concept of this series. Even after being reading this standalone series for more then a year. I haven’t catch up yet with the earlier books and the one release last year . However I wasn’t going to miss this opportunity despite not reading Alex and Mallory fi

This was Toni Anderson’s first attempt to give me a heart attack.
Everybody’s attending this wedding and a bunch of very pleasant agents and friends help Alex in his important mission before the ceremony.
This novella is the fix the series fans need while waiting for the next Cold Justice Series book.
Toni’s heroes are alpha-type with the perfect amount of romance consciousness I’ve always needed in my books.

I had to smile as I was reading this thinking only Toni would have a FBI/CIA/Interpol terrorist taken down in the middle of the book where 2 of her characters were finally tying the knot. Then I get to the end of the book where she explains that would have been a boring book if she hadn't had a side plot inserted in the middle and I smiled some more – side plot? More like edge of your seat suspense and wondering if the groom was going to make it back alive for his wedding.

A Cold Dark Promise by Toni Anderson is a novella that fans of the Cold Justice series would adore. One reason being that this novella brings to readers the wedding of Alex Parker and FBI Agent Mallory Rooney, the main protagonists from the debut book of the series.

Alex’s character was one of the main reasons why I fell in love with the Cold Justice series initially. Toni Anderson’s way of putting a story together is another, and there was ruthless edge to the story that made me think of Anne St
Alex, the groom, takes off a week before the wedding. On what will likely be a dangerous mission. A volunteer mission. I didn't know whether to kiss him or smack him. Seriously, he wanders off on a freelance job a week before the ceremony?! At least it was to help someone, to reunite a parent and child.

Not having the first few books in the series, I didn't fully get the animosity between Alex and Jane but I appreciated, despite the timing, that he helped her even though they didn't like each oth

It was nice to meet again Alex, the main character of A Cold Dark Place. It is obvious that over time and other six books he became even better and he deserved to have a (another) book of his own, even if only a novella. The plus is that this novella gives a fine story. And a bit disappointing for me, because jumping over the other six volumes caused me to lose a lot of interesting protagonists. Yes, even if Alex has the leading role, there are many other nice and interesting characters from the ...more

This was a really exciting read for it being a novella. All about Alex headed for the French Riviera to try to get Jane’s daughter back from the ex-husband who’d kidnapped her 4 years before, and Alex discovering that the ex-husband was preparing to make a deal with all sorts of bad guys for some anthrax. They had to take care of that and still get back home to marry Mallory in a week’s time, which he did with one minute to spare. There was never a dull moment.

There was no sex in this but there
I enjoyed this novella quite a lot really. Firstly, it was awesome getting to hang out with the characters again. Secondly, I'd forgotten Ms Anderson's ability to combine strong action scenes with equally strong emotional intensity and character development.

Basically, I said I'd trust her to make a wedding story novella work for, and I'm glad I did.

Now I need to read the next book like I need air.

Luckily, I already have it!

The Cold Series is one of my very favorites of all time. I reread the early books quite often as well as Anderson's other books. Suspense, darkness and then, unbelievably, love. This new book has been a long time coming as Mallory and Alex try to get married. I laughed. I cried. I fumed. It's all there in a novella form that reads like a full length novel. I felt outright joy at times. This is one of my favorites of the series now. No one will ever take Lincoln's place but that's okay. If you're ...more

One of the better novellas I've read in some time. Lots of action, very little repetition, very good story line.

Delving into the world of kidnapping, bioweapons, espionage, the extreme wealthy, and sunny days on the Mediterranean - not to mention a wedding and the preparations that involves!

A good read, highly recommend to all those that follow the Cold Justice Series!

2 thumbs up and 4 stars (that's a good review from me who detests novellas)

A week before his wedding to Mallory, Alex takes off to help "abduct" a child that was previously abducted. The beginning of the book was a lot of laying groundwork, but once you get into the meat of this tasty novella, the action quickly picks up. There are lots of surprises as the bad guys are revealed.

Then there is a race to the finish to see if Alex makes it back to the States in time for his wedding.

A thoroughly enjoyable book/novella.

I was so excited to listen to this series on audio! I struggle looking for what I want a lot with audio books. However, these books are perfectly what I’m looking for. I like my romances to be packed with suspense and mystery. I want intrigue and complete sexiness. I’m a hard person to please because I don’t just want a romance; I want a pulse-pounding situation with people who are sexy, smart, and interesting. I need the full package in audio books. A Cold Dark Promise is the ninth book in Toni Anderson's Cold Justice series. Of course Alex, being the dramatic character that he is, couldn't just simply get married, lol. Author does an excellent job wrapping the scheduled "wedding" plans around another case for this dude. He is like James Bond to the 3rd power, Mallory is his perfect match because she understands his drive for solving the case, her love for him is on another level because he is just that type of guy. This really gets the adrenaline pumping and the emotions flying with tears of sadness and joy, loaded ...more

I read book 1 and really liked it. I decided I should save the rest of the series and only read one occasionally. That was dumb. Life's too short to save good books when you can read them now. So I binged, reading 9 books in 16 days. It was glorious. I especially enjoy how the main characters from book 1 become supporting characters in book 2, etc. It's a great way to have some of the continuity of a sequel without the boredom of typical sequels.

Mal and Alex agree to A Cold Dark Promise before stepping into the sunlight of the rest of their lives!

This is another excellent suspense romance by an excellent suspense romance author! We met Mallory more than a year ago when they fell in love and now with baby on board they are getting married within a week. In the meantime, Mal tells Alex that he can rescue a kidnapped child as long as he is back for the wedding. Easier said than done! I received a gifted copy. I am voluntarily leaving an ho
I thought there would be more wedding activities with this one. Instead Alex plays the nice guy and slips one quick job in, or what should be a quick job. But Murphy's Law came into play and things got complicated, that even with most of the team there to help it was unclear if Alex would make the wedding.

I loved the faith that Mallory had, that even when it came down to minutes before the ceremony Mallory knew Alex would be there.

If tension wasn’t enough before the wedding for Alex and Mallory. A woman he doesn’t want to have anything to do with contacts him for help, her child that had been taken, would he help her. The bond of their unborn child, Alex feels a love for the baby something so foreign, and so over whelming. How can he denied her. It was not simple, almost impossible, other official, friends and still showed how the event turned deadly. The best man made the impossible possible, taking his duties se ...more

It also started strong, but then had some points where it really dragged then got crazy - the cast of characters was also everyone and their best friend - because I think maybe this is the [story] that ends the series?
