When the moon is full High above the Earth Three daughters shall be born On their 16th birthday, their destiny will begin One daughter, born with the knowledge of the future, yet blind of those closest to her
As Hope’s 16th birthday nears, weird things happen. Then on the night of her 16th birthday, Hope awakens with a scream. An unbelievable nightmare becomes her reality, and she questions her sanity.
Bryce, a new guy in town, arrives to help.
In order to survive, three must work as one, or all is lost.
The Baskins were ready to have their child. Mr. Baskins finally gave birth to a baby girl, but wait, she still has to push, the doc looks and there's another one coming, one more push doc says and it's another girl! Oh no! It's happening again! The doctor looked dumbfounded, well...let's look, and another one slid out almost before he could get his hands out to catch her. Mr. & Mrs. Haskins you have triplets and all girls! But the ultrasound it said only, but... Then the book jumps to almost 16 years later. Hope has met the new boy at school, Bryce, and has started having medical issues. Her sister Destiny is acting really weird. So much going on... This was a really good book, probably for YA. There's never a dull moment in this one. There is always something happening, but the story doesn't feel cluttered. I really like the paranormal part of it. I like that Bryce and Hus dad are suppose to be the ones who know about what's happening with Hope, but they all seem to be learning together. I think it's great that Bryce figured out that his role in Hope's battle. The concept of the story was great, with likeable but not "perfect" characters. The story came together nicely and I am eager to we what's on store for the other 2 girls.
This is Marsha Black's Debut Novel. WOW!!!!!!!!!!! What a start. This is Hope's Story and it is amazing.
Hope one of the main characters is a strong and independent lady. She is thrown into a world that she doesn't understand at first but has the want to learn about what she can. That is where she meets Bryce the new kid at school. He is not what she expects. When she meets Bryce her world as she knows it has changed forever. Bryce is over protective, sexy type. The characters are very strong and well put together. This is a book that you don't want to miss out on. Cannot wait until I read the rest of the story.
I would recommend this to anyone who likes a bit of romance and snarky characters.
If you're looking for YA fantasy with a strong female lead, this is for you! I am excited to continue reading this series, and was really happy to get my hands on this story on audio. The narrator does a fantastic job of bringing the story to life without being overly dramatic.
As a first time reader of this author I must say that it was a great start to a YA paranormal series that I can not wait to get more of. Hope and her sisters are the only triplets know to be born in their hometown which makes them stand out as it is but on their 16th birthday they become part of a prophecy that has been around for centuries. Once I began reading I didn’t want to put my kindle down, I was hooked. Yes this is a young adult read but I felt as though there’s so much more to the story then the age of the characters and that’s what kept me intrigued. The pace and details set throughout was perfect and the entire story flowed wonderfully. What a twist towards the end lemme tell you, I DID NOT see that coming and that’s exactly what you want when you’re reading a story to have the unexpected happen. You want to be kept on your toes, at least that’s how I feel when I’m reading a book. I will undoubtedly be waiting for Destiny’s story next. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
I was intrigued by this book from the start. Fortunately, it didn't let me down. ;) I liked how the author pictured the triplet's everyday life and how she introduced the magic into Hope's routine. Her character was well built although I thought the romance went a bit too fast. I loved the magic and the unexplained things. I can't wait to hear more about the other sisters but Hope will be my favorite <3 If you need a clean YA with funny dialogues and hilarious situations, get it. You won't regret it! This book is a good review from a promising author. Overall, this is a very engaging story with characters that are relatable. I look forward to hearing more about Hope and her sisters. Some of the story is predictable, but there are enough twists and turns to keep you wanting more. The only word of caution that I would have to give is that some of the grammar is not as tight as it could be. This wasn’t enough to dissuade me, but it is something that I found to be annoying at times.
This book is for youth, but once I started reading I couldn’t stop. I loved everything about the storyline. I was so excited I started to read the second book right away. It feels great to feel young as you read Marsha Black’s books. She is an amazing author. I cannot wait for book three Faith’s Story. I know it will be just as amazing.
It has been since I last read a fantasy and I don’t freaking now why because I looove the genre! The Triplet’s Curse, by Marsha Black was certainly a great read! This one has all the key elements to a great captivating story: weird events going on, a bad-ass curse that goes way back in time, triplets, a few very good twists in the pot, some romance, and a lot of ice!
I will start by saying that Hope reminds me a lot of Elsa in Frozen, for her personality, her courage, her “badassness” and, of course, her ice-related abilities. This fact alone was a great start for me ♥
As every good curse-related story, it all begins the day Hope and her sisters turn 16 and weird events start unfolding around Hope. Specially when Bryce is around and that blue and gold sparkle ignites between them. To Hope’s dismay, Bryce doesn’t seem surprised. In fact, he seems to have answers to the black-outs she’s been having, among other things.
As they spend more time together and the atraction between them grows, Hope comes to learn unbelievable facts about her key rol on a curse affecting triplets from centuries, and Bryce’s part on it and on her life. At the same time, a series of misterous events seem to affect some of their class-mates, and Bryce and Hope must figure it out before someone gets hurt!
One of the things I loved the most about the book, however, is the fact that it revolves a lot around family. Hope and Bryce spend a looot of time with their parents, even though they are teenagers and most teenagers in books don’t usually do this, or if they do it’s not central to the plot. Here, however, adults are involved and they are as badass as the main characters.
All in all, I really enjoyed the first book in the series and I’m looking forwards to more! I strongly recommend it if you are looking for a sweet and misterious story.
The Prophecy When the moon is full High above the Earth Three daughters shall be born On their 16th birthday, their destiny will begin One daughter, born with knowledge of the future, yet blind of those closest to her One daughter born to endure pain And heartache before being reborn One daughter born to determine the fate of the world In order to survive, three must work As one, or all is lost This is the Triplet’s Curse
A Prologue begins with the birth of the triplets: Hope, Destiny, and Faith then chapter one jumps ahead to 15 years and 29 days later (2 days before their 16th birthday). The Prophecy is an eloquent and graceful way to lay the ground work for the story to enfold.
The pace was fluid, the author’s attention to detail within the story was Amazing and Genuine for contemporary teen life at an American urban high school.
The characters were well-developed; especially the relationships between the triplets’ which were at the core of the story - caring, realistic and fully-fleshed out. The supernatural elements were expertly interwoven into the daily routine and added an unexpected element of surprise and suspense. This novel was a true page-turner!
Dearest Reader, I Never reveal ANY spoilers in my reviews as I wish for you to discover the joys of each Terrific Tale for yourself. I kindly recommend you purchase this book for your home library.
In closing this review, I want to highlight a poem written by Annamarie Gardner and featured in this novel. She is one of my team members on the Face Book page SLH Reviews and is a very unique Poet!
Poetry by Annamarie Gardner:
Joint Poem:
A moment frozen in time A gentle kiss stolen without rhyme A soft embrace a gentle caress A memory gone without a trace A careless glance and a stolen romance A memory gone and a memory won A dream, a curse, a wish fulfilled Hope and Bryce frozen in place held by loves frozen embrace
I received an advanced reader copy for the purpose of review. And man, am I glad I did. This story is the first in a three-part series about three sisters who are cursed. Hope is definitely a character I can relate to. Grade oriented, not really part of the popular crowd, and with no desire to be, she is just a normal teenager struggling with getting along with her sisters, looking forward to getting her license... and having the joy of always being thrust into the spotlight she hates, because she is one of the only sets of triplets ever born in their small Wisconsin town.
Then she meets Bryce. Oh, Bryce. I can't decide if I like him or not. I mean, he's ok. At least he's not the sullen brooding boy that seems to be the hot "it" thing in YA UF of late. But (and I think this is true to his character, as opposed to the bad writing I've seen from other authors) Without Hope, he is kind of nothing. I mean, literally, this kid has been raised in a cult society, his sole purpose of existence, to find the triplets from the curse and aid them in training and preparing to battle evil. We get a brief glimpse of this young man who doesn't really believe in his mission, and kind of isn't happy with his life, but then the spark happens (No, y'all it is a LITERAL spark, sounds SO cool. I want to see a movie version of this JUST to see the spark, lol) and suddenly he is a born again convert to his cult's beliefs. Which, is probably a good thing or poor Hope would've been screwed.
But it would've been fun to see him maybe buck the system a little bit? I have hopes, thanks to some teasers for the next books, that one of the heroes/ heroines might, though. After all, Fate can only do so much, am I right?
So, yeah, each book is about one of the sisters, and their coming into their power, as far as I can tell. I loved the baddie in this one, and the way it was revealed. I can't say I didn't see it coming, but at the same time, it was a surprise. The author did a great job balancing the readers knowledge and expectations. And holy crap, the teaser at the end for the next book!? As soon as it's available for preorder, I am ordering it!
If you enjoy stories where the hero is fated to save the world, with a dash or romance, and a splash of snark, then The Triplet's curse is definitely for you.
I'm just going to be outright, despite how dorky it may sound: The general premise of "The Triplet's Curse-Hope's Story" has a shojo anime/manga flavor to it. There, I said it. And to me, that was amazing! Let me explain: We have a protagonist in which a power in her is activated, and she spends the novel learned to control and understand it. There is a transfer student that's directly involved. Weird things happy. So, anyone that is a manga/anime fan will totally get this. And if not? That doesn't change my recommendation :) The style of writing is rather casual, which makes a direct hit in the YA space. Hope was my favorite of the triplets. Yes, I know she's the protagonist here, but her personality is down to earth with the occasional bite. The end really builds up- the intensity was such that I wish it was a tad longer. This novel took me on a thrilling ride, and anyone who is interested in the life of a high schooler turned upside down in a paranormal adventure- this is the book for you. I'm working on a blog review but had to get this out on Goodreads now !
For a debut novel it was nothing short of brilliant. I fell in love with the triplets, but not just the triplets the entire family and Bryce and his dad. This was a entertaining read that captured the readers attention from the opening of the story. When Hope the feisty thought provoking triplet has a run in with Bryce a high school boy that irritates her to no end their word as they know it is forever changed. Hope and Bryce realize after things start changing around them that they just might be each other salvation, or each others downfall. This is a book that is so funny and engaging that it was over with before I wanted it to be. I cannot wait for this entire series. I will definitely add it to my must re-read list. Thank you for allowing me to read this and write a honest review.
As this authors first book she blew me away. i loved the way she went between point of view, making it so easy to follow the story. Her characters were wonderfully developed and made you fall in love with them. Hope is the main character and i adore how strong she made her. The depth of the relationship between Hope and Bryce is unbelieveable, their strenghts and weaknesses make them who they are. I was blown away by the depth and levels of development this new author shows, I strongly suggest that everyone read this book, its so well written and has something for just about everyone. GIVE IT A TRY YOU WONT BE SORRY.
1st off come on book 2!! Hope's story was a good read, I loved all the characters and the descriptions took you right into the book. I usually don't like a book that goes from one person's POV to another person every chapter because you get a lot of repeat info, however going between Bryce and Hope worked out well, even though you did get some repeat info it is my opinion that the story needs this duel POV because you get to see and feel through Hope's eyes so to speak and then you get to experience through Bryce how he feels about the same thing. This is a breakout novel for author Marsha Black and I hope it isn't the last I must know what happens with the other sisters.
OH my goodness, where do I begin? This book was awesome! This book had a great flow to it, and the characters were well developed. Hope is the main character and it was really neat to see her come into her own, into her powers. Bryce, the new kid at school seems to immediately have a connection to Hope. I loved the story line. This book was a definite page turner and I am excited to dive into the next book in this series.
*I was given a copy of this book by the author. The statements here are my own honest opinion and no review was required.* I loved the book so much that I went ahead and purchased it.
Wow! Marsha has a way with words! Once you start reading you won’t wanna put this book down! I can’t wait until book 2 gets released!
The Triplets Curse – Hope’s Story, starts out with Mrs. Baskins giving birth to a baby girl and learns there’s 3. Fast forward to 16 years later and you follow the journey of Hope Baskins, one of the triplets, as she learns of and her role in the curse. It’s a roller coaster of emotions and Hope is the center of it. You see how she meets the new guy, Bryce, and what he means to her future. You follow Hope as she fights evil, but will she ever overcome it and all the surprises that lay ahead of her? You’ll have to purchase the book to find out, I’m not one for spoilers.
Loved it! Throughout reading the book I did notice some errors and several bits that didn't make sense. However, the story was so interesting that those things didn't take away from the story. I cannot wait to get my hands on the second book.
Debut novel for Marsha Black and she did an amazing job! You can't help but love Hope, Bryce, and the rest of the characters. And then you'll be wanting book 2 to come out now. I would highly recommend this book especially if you love YA books!
This book was great. I can't wait until book 2 is out. Hope and Bryce and all the sisters have a great story to tell. Marsha has a way of telling it. Keep it up.
I just started reading this book yesterday & could not put it down...I'm saddened it's over because I want more so much more!!! I'm waiting on the edge of my seat for the next one!!!!
I just finished the book and I am just speechless. I did not expect things to move this fast and the twist that comes around is just amazing.. for a minute I was just holding my breath to see how things turn around and what happens next.. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series.
This is Marsha's first book I am just amazed how well written the book is and the perfect world that she created with The Triplet's Curse. I just loved the interactions between Bryce and Hope, and the emotions that Hope was feeling with everything changing around her.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed, and I found it easy to fall right in sync with Hope and her predicament. I'd recommend this book to fans of YA fantasy.
Hope, Faith and Destiny...triplets bound for greatness!!! Marsha Black spins a tale of a curse that began in the Renaissance Era about a set of triplets who must determine the fate of good vs. evil in the world. A classic battle, but Black puts a wicked spin on this tale. The triplet's, each with their own personalities, and those trained to help them, the Scylanthicas are so uniquely portrayed. Black presents a story that keeps you turning the pages, with no breaks in the suspense or action; rooting for the heroines and heroes alike. The relationships between these characters tug at your heart strings as you feel their happiness and pain. I can't wait for the next one!
Hope has two identical sisters; she's a triplet. Unfortunately, a great evil has cursed the triplets and each will have a battle to face. If they don't win their battles, the curse indicates that a great evil will conquer the planet. Hope knows nothing about this until the triplets turn 16 and she starts having visions. A new guy, Bryce, arrives in town to explain the curse to her and train her, but is he ultimately trustworthy? That's just one of the things that will keep you in suspense as you read Marsha Black's captivating debut novel.
Perhaps the thing that I loved most is that Hope and Bryce are very well-written characters. Hope is a down to earth, strong young woman and a protagonist that young women should be able to relate to accordingly. Meanwhile, Bryce is a strong character as well and one that teenage boys should relate to. Of course, great characters need a great story and Black certainly delivers one, the book becoming more and more captivating with the turn of each page. I'm normally a slower reader, but I had to read the second half of The Triplet's Curse in one sitting. I simply could not put it down. Now I'm dying for the next book to be released. Give this one a read you will be, too.
A Prologue begins with the birth of the triplets: Hope, Destiny, and Faith then chapter one jumps ahead to 15 years and 29 days later (2 days before their 16th birthday).
