This was a very enjoyable collection of three novellas set in the world of The Cloud Warrior Saga. It showed us a different part of the world and focused on a different main character. As you'd expect from Holmberg, there's plenty of action. The story is a bit on the simple side as far as fantasy goes, but that makes it a great comfort read. It's nice to go back to this kind of fantasy from time to time. It has likeable characters, interesting magic, and action-packed plots.

Superb!
I really enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would. I had started reading only because it was a part of the story line, but wasn't really interested in Elle's ongoing story. Man oh man was I wrong! I was quickly pulled into her life and before I knew it was 91% done with the book. Big huge thumbs up to D.K. Holmberg yet again for ANOTHER fantastical ride!!

Lack of confidence slows learning to use gifts
Typical male dominated scoffing at the young upstart pervades the first few chapters. It contributes to the heroines lack of confidence. But the madder they make her, the more she is able to improve.

This is Elle's story! She went to the university, but now she is back in Doma. Here the war has come to her and her people. She will need to learn and learn quickly to be the shaper that is essential to save Doma.

I envy this author's imagination. The world's and characters come alive and seem real even in the fantasy world. The reader gets invested in the characters
