It's autumn in Yulethorpe and everyone is gloomy. It's cold, drizzly and the skies are permagrey. The last shop on the high street - an adorable little toy shop - has just shut its doors. Everything is going wrong for Yulethorpe this autumn. Until Clara Kristensen arrives.

Clara is on holiday but she can see the potential in the pretty town, so she rolls up her sleeves and

When Danish Clara arrived in the little village of Yulethorpe she never expected to be staying, nor running a toy shop, but that’s exactly what she ends up doing after the toy shop owner, Louise, ups and leaves for Spain and Clara offers to house/shop and animal sit for her.

The village has seen a decline in visitors and a lot of the shops are now empty, but Clara has a vision to make the toy shop wonderful again, and to bring in more customers and

What a warm hug of a book, this book is pure hygge, and I absolutely love it as a result.

Ok, so until even part way through I wasn't completely sure what Hygge was, I just knew it was something that seemed to appear all over twitter at this time of year for the past few years, but couldn't quite work it out.

Well if you are like me you will find this book not only a great story with plenty of humour, but it will also teach you all you need to know about Hygge, and a few Danish swear words too!

Why does this book have a high rating? I managed to haul myself half-way through before finally giving up, what a boring piece of literature.

I love a Rosie Blake novel. This one felt quite different from her previous novel, but then I think that the subject matter made it feel just a lot cosier and it was still really really enjoyable. I actually started this book before going to sleep and then didn't put it down until I had finish it. I didn't realise that I was reading it until the wee hours of the morning because I was just so engrossed and absorbed in the story, costing up with the characters and enjoying a little bit of me time ...more

In the past I used to dread winter but thanks to this book it has changed the way I think. I am now going to embrace it with warm blankets, soft cushions, scented candles and hot chocolate. Of course, the story is just as heart-warming as you might imagine as it reaffirms what is important in life. If you read nothing else this winter, then make sure that this book is at the top of your list - I absolutely loved it. It will suck you in, wrap you up and leave you with a happy feeling of ...more

I’m a big Rosie blake fan and together with the Hygge title, this book was very intriguing from the start.

I have two Hygge books at home and I have looked at them, but I have not read the whole book. I really loved this book, because it properly introduced me to this lifestyle. I really like the idea behind this book and Rosie Blake did a fabulous job putting this all into one story.

Clara is a very interesting characters and it was great to see what she was able to change. She is Danish

Fantastic, feel good read. I became intrigued by the concept of hygge when I first read it as part of a storyline in a book by Julie Caplin. Hygge basically means cosy. Things to make your life and environment a restful, serene place. Taking time to "smell the roses." Realizing that there is more to life than just work, work, work in searching for the almighty dollar. This book is about one woman who takes matters into her own hands and transforms a declining village and its resident into a ...more

Guys, you don't have to fear the upcoming winter if you have Rosie Blake's new novel at hand! Already the opening scene was abso - bloody - hilarious and it set the mood for the rest of the story. It was my first "hygge" book, to be honest and I won't tell you what I thought hygge is, it turned out to be something different to what I thought, but still I love the idea of hygge, especially now, when it's so quickly dark and uncomfortable and cold, and now I am a hygge specialist, and I also know

I was really looking forward to this book and to start with I was unsure but once I read on I got into it and it was brilliant so funny and festive and full of romance and laughter and learning about happiness. Well worth reading. Clara arrives in the village which is cold and gloomy and the last shop in the high street has shut its doors. She can see the potential and she asks the owner if she can run it while she goes to Spain as she wants to make a home of it. Jo arrives to find what is going ...more

Clara is on the move again, and when she witnesses a slanging match in Yulethorpe pub it will be the turning point of her life.

As The Hygge Holiday features small children from the very beginning I ought not to like it as everyone who knows me also knows I don’t ‘do’ children and they would be right. I didn’t like it. I loved it!

Reading The Hygge Holiday was akin to meeting up with an old friend or slipping into one of Clara’s scented candle lit baths. The Hygge Holiday felt familiar and new at

I've never read a book by Rosie Blake before this and I could kick myself now! This book was absolutely delightful and left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside - and wanting to light about a thousand candles and fairy lights!

I wasn't entirely sure what hygge was until I read this book (you find out the actual definition about a quarter of a way in but it basically means cosy), and now that I've finished it, I want everything

What a truly fantastic read this was! I picked it up, knowing – as a fan of Rosie Blake – to expect lots of laugh out loud moments and gorgeously drawn characters. But I ended up with so much more! After a book slump in which I’d found myself only able to read non-fiction, this book reminded me why I love reading fiction so much. Because it completely takes you somewhere else. It makes you hope and fantasise and sigh with delight when you’re drawn into a place and an atmosphere that fills your ...more

A hot chocolate snuggle of a read!
I adored this book which encapsulated everything I know about hygge, having traveled frequently to Denmark in the past. Rosie Blake has certainly done her hygge homework and created a vibrant tale full of intriguing characters, a hearty story line and a unique premise. Lady CaCa also had me snorting with laughter. Such a fun novel. I truly didn't want it to end and look forward to reading more from this author!

Having LOVED Rosie Blake’s previous novel; ‘How to Find Your (First) Husband’, I think I may have peed a little when she announced the release of her brand new book; ‘The Hygge Holiday’. Excited much? Errrrrr YAH! So excited in fact, I couldn’t wait until the 21st September to read it! #sorrynotsorry.

I’m sure a lot of you will recognise the term ‘hygge’. If you don’t, where on EARTH have you been hiding? I’ll be honest,

Reminds me a little of the film Chocolat.

Clara is a Danish girl travelling around England with her rucksack. Spending an evening in a Suffolk pub (quaint ye olde outside but depressing interior) she is entertained by one customer, Louisa, who arrives in her pyjamas and dramatically announces that she is selling her toy shop and moving abroad. Despite her initial misgivings, Clara feels she wants to spend more time in the village so she offers to house-sit Louisa's apartment and the toy shop

This book is like a big warm hug of happiness. This book is the epitome of Hygge and it is perfect for romance and chicklit fans everywhere.

When Clara arrives in Yulethorpe (I know what a fabulously festive town name) determine that she is not going to stay in town for very long. She wonders around from place to place and guess what ends up staying in town for much longer then anticipated. Ending up as a house sitter and running the local toy shop.

The town is in desperate need of a Hygge

I've read a couple of Rosie Blake novels before and I'm never disappointed in her work.

The Hygge Holiday is a real 'feel good' factor book, perfect for reading at Christmas time with the warm glow of a welcoming fire, a glass of wine and lots of lovely candles to whisk you away on this romantic journey to Yulethorpe and the little toy shop.

Clara the main character was such a warm genuine character it was easy to like her; in fact all the characters were lovely and believable. It seemed that

If you’re after a really lovely summer read, then this is perfect!

The story is based around Clara, a lovely Danish girl who has found herself running a little Toy Shop in a quiet village; and Joe, the son of the lady who actually owns the toy shop, a careers man who just wants to sell the shop and be done with it. Clara tried to win Joe over with hygge and the story blossoms from there.

It’s a simple, easy to read story that blossoms through the whole book. If will leave you feeling happy and

This book definitely left me with a warm cosy feeling, as Rosie Blake's books often do!! I read this in less than a day as the story line took hold and I found myself unable to put the book down and occasionally bursting into laughter, the characters are warm and lovable, the plot sweet and entertaining i swear if it wasn't for the fact it's the middle of summer and red hot I'd love nothing better than to drink hot chocolate under a blanket while reading this!! I must admit, I am a sucker for this type of book, the cover enticed me to read it and wondered how, what, and pronunciation of Hyggee was! I enjoyed it. Loved the descriptions of the area and the people and could definitely picture a Hallmark movie!

This was the perfect antidote to the January blues. Lovely heart-warming story that had the very effect that was intended- made me feel all warm inside. Read this over a few snowy evenings, cuddled up in the warm. Definitely recommend.

I'm fascinated by the hygge thought and this was a perfect treat. Its message is true and timely with splash of romance on more than one level. A lovely read.

“into the bar area and through the kitchen, letting herself out of the back door. She knew the shops would be shut at this time but she had a faint hope that she might stumble across some kind-hearted baker who would open his door just for her. She could almost taste the thick warm dough, sniffed the air for a telltale whiff of it. There didn’t appear to be a bakery in the village at all. Or a café. In fact, as she moved down the high street she was shocked to see so many ‘For Sale’ signs, shops with nothing in the windows but a few chairs or rolls of carpet. Other windows were boarded up, even the graffiti half-hearted, illegible squiggles in spray paint, dull colours. There was faded writing drawn into the dust on one window, a notice promising an end-of-stock clearance” 0 likes
