Being left behind to hold the fort every time the world needs saving, sucks.

For Carmella Hunter, a witch blood with practically no magick, being surrounded by powerful friends has taken its toll. For once it would be nice to be the one doing the saving. Stuck in a dead end job in Piccadilly’s favourite bakery, Carmella spends her days making cinnamon rolls and her

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

With the first chapter of Binding Magick, I knew a few things:

1 – I totally loved the main character Carmella because I got her instantly as soon as she opened with

Narratedby Zehra Jane Naqvi, we are introduced to Carmella Hunter. She isa witch blood who never came into her powers. She has spent her life feeling like an outcast or misfit.Bad luck, horrible ex-boyfriends and more have caused some emotional baggage, which is sad because Carmella is sweet, funny and likable. She works at thePiccadilly’s favorite bakery and is quite good at baking up theirgooey confections. My mouth drooled with the descriptions. When the rest of the staff call out sick on a ...more

4 Stars - I Really Liked It

This book was pretty great. Sometimes Kindle Unlimited books are chancy but this story had me right from the beginning.

In A Nutshell:: Carmella is a Witch Blood. A Witch Blood is someone whose parentage is one full witch and one human and most witch bloods manifest some level of magic when they hit puberty, but Carmella seems to be a dud. No magic. Having no magic leaves

I feel like I'm missing something. The "Heroine" is always dumping on herself for this almost entire book. She's totally kickass, she just doesn't know it yet. Although she needs to stand up for herself, she lets people walk all over her wayyy to often.

She keeps mentioning incidents. The Void breaking, her time as a librarian in the assassins guild, and her super badass bitch friend Malina, who has a hellhound companion and guards the gates to the underworld. Then there's whole story about her

Hmmm. Middle of the road with this book. Something about how there is so much going on and our heroine is just standing in the middle all clueless is kind of irritating. I prefer a proactive MC and Carmella is barely even reactive, and kinda a hot mess at times.

There is no world building but hints of a story before this. The amt of different species, the whole multiverse thing is very confusing without some explaining. Once again I have stepped off in something that had already been ongoing this

Carmella is a fun character! I loved that she was okay being without magic in a world full of it! There were a bit of twists and lots of unusual supernatural characters that aren’t the normal ones in standard urban fantasy books. I found that refreshing. I’m dying to see what happens next! Well worth the read and a new Author for me to obsess over. Five glittery stars!

The Witch Blood Chronicles is the spin off series to the hugely popular Gatekeeper Chronicles coauthored with Jasmine Walt, and although it can be enjoyed as a standalone series, the author recommends reading The Gatekeeper Chronicles first for maximum impact.

Binding Magick is the first installment in a new urban fantasy series, The Witch Blood Chronicles. Carmella Hunter, a witch blood, works in popular London bakery.

"Binding Magic" is an interesting tale about Carmella Hunter whose magical powers never materialized. She is basically considered a null and even her own mother seems to feel embarassed by her lack of magical ability. So, Carmella does what she does best, bake the best cinnamon rolls and brownies in the area at the local bakery owned by her good friend.

Carmella has a good heart as demonstrated by the way she lives her life in a small apartment above the bakery so that she can use her money to

This is kind of a spin off of Then Gatekeeper Chronicles. You do not have to have read them to read this book. I was given an ARC for an honest review.
Carmella Hunter is a witch-blood with barely any powers. She used to work for the assassin’s guild as their artifacts librarian. Then she trained for the Iner-Entity Pact Enforcement Unit (IEPEU) but found she just didn’t have the grit to be an enforcer for those that broke the Pact. So now she works at a Bakery and

I truly enjoyed this book. It was filled with a mysterious new world and fascinating characters that pull you into the story. The characters and dialogue are strong and well-written and story gripping and suspenseful. There are several factions to become familiar with and they are all interesting in their own way. I was intrigued by Carmella; she had so many layers to her. She was a witch with no magic who was shunned by her family and now stuck in a dead end job as a baker and helps out at a ...more

This is a really fun book and the start of what I suspect will be a great series. It's a spinoff of Gatekeeper Chronicles that Debbie Cassidy coauthored with Jasmine Walt. I haven't read that series, so when I write that this book can be read on it's own merits that's clearly the case, but I suspect that if I'd read that then this book would've been enhanced. As is I waffled between 4 and 5 stars on its own, but an giving it that 5th star on the presumption that the missing background would make ...more

book 1 Binding Magick is a continuation of the Gatekeeper Chronicles... and is totally awesome.
The main character is Carmella Hunter, a witch blood with practically no magick. Carmella used to work in the Library as the artifacts librarian of the Assassins Guild of which now is no more. Carmella is still friends with Malina Hayes who has now taken over as the Gate Keeper of Hell's mouth. And Drake the High Witch's Grandson is friends with Carmella or so he thinks.. He broke Carmella's heart by

This book is the first in the Witch Blood Chronicles series which is an offshoot of the Gatekeeper Chronicles. However, you don’t have to have read those to enjoy this one, but I do recommend them because they are a great series. Back to this book. One of the reasons I decided to read this book was because I really loved the writing in the series I mentioned above. I am so glad I did. This book was very well-written, and I just loved the characters. They are truly fun, multi-layered, and ...more

Interesting read

I really loved this book. This story features djinn and asuras, devas and witches and humans, and a plethora of other gods and demi gods. It's not the typical vamire/were shifter story, which makes it intriguing and unique to explore these new paranormal characters. The main character is strong, a warrior who isn't actually a warrior, but someone who is struggling and fighting to find her place. First she was an archivist, now she's a baker by day and she's helping out homeless

I adored this book! If you liked the Gateway series you will love this, even if you havent read it it doesnt matter it can stand alone. I read a LOT of fantasy books, particularly urban with strong kickass female characters, and just the other day i wondered why there cant be one who actually is a 'nice' person, a kind unselfish one. One who doesnt always make dumb rash decisions and puts themself in dangerous situations, someone so stubborn you dont really like them much...then along comes ...more

This book and the entire series was really good, I have read the gatekeeper chronicles and finally got around to picking up this companion that can be read as standalone but I do suggest reading the gatekeeper series as well. I read three of the books in one night I stayed up until about 4 AM because I was so into the book. The story was fun the characters for fun the main character at first I didn’t really like I thought she was really whiny but as the story progresses so did she I totally did ...more

The ties that bind us - are they ever broken?

Absolutely stunning. Being a witch with no powers and having yet to find her place in the world. She is currently working as a baker. Thrust into a mystery when her body is inhabited with a male Djinn she tries to find answers. Will the answers be what she is looking for or will they lead to more questions? Witches, Djinn, parallel universes and gods make for a terrific read. She is a character that is a mix of innocence, trust and pure guts. Her male

Witches , Djinns oCarmella is a witch with no magic . She works at a bakery and runs a kitchen to feed the homeless , and as she is filling orders for catering . As she is going home everything goes wrong and she makes a deal with Djinn. Not her best hour , Now she has to solve who is stealing Djinns , her boss goes missing . I loved reading this book . Has potential. I didn't bother reading the series before this... but reading about the characters from the original spinoff sounds interesting... Too bad I don't have the books.

Anyways, this series is definitely a long book cut into regular length books with cliffhangers. Better to get ahold of all the books before you start reading one.

If you don't mind a woe-is-me protagonist, the story is actually pretty good.

Wonderful story

I am glad I decided to read this one. It continues in a way the story we did not want to end, from a source we thought we knew. I enjoyed Carmella in the glimpses through Malina, but she truly shines all on her own. Oh and the men she has falling at her feet! But the Djinn is the one that has my vote! Can't wait for the next one!

Surprisingly good book!

I really liked this book. Carmella is one of my favorite characters from the Gatekeeper Chronicles, and her own story has proved just as exciting. Lot of unanswered questions that I'm sure will be answered in the upcoming sequel, which I'm looking forward to. Debbie Cassidy is an author I'll be looking for more of for sure!

I really enjoyed reading this book. This is actually the first book I've ready Debbie Cassidy, but I enjoyed the flow of the story and the characters introduced in this novel. I look forward to reading more books by this author. I'd recommend this book for anyone that is a fan of witches and/or the mystical side of life.

Careful what you wish for

Our heroine has always felt less than but she's thrust into something that defies everything she's ever known. She finds out she's not just a simple witch-blood like she's believed all her life. Things change in an instant and once again her life is not her own.

Great but so may errors

The story was awesome but there was so many spelling mistakes and grammatical errors that it was driving me nuts! The editor should be fired! Other then that it was great story. Lots of action and adventure. Can't wait to read the next book. Just hope there are way less errors because it's very distracting.

Loved it!!!

This is the first book I've read by this author and it was fantastic. The world building was well done, especially since it seems to be a break off series from another the author has done. I truly loved the characters and the twists and turns the plot took. I'm really glad that there are so many books already in the series. I hate waiting!!

Camella is a witch blood with no power. Or so it seems. A hot djinn, finding her nearly unconscious, takes advantage and binds her to him so he can hide in our world and not be detected by his enemies.
Well written, with great plot and characters, and has plenty of acting and twists.
I received a complimentary copy and desired to give my review.

Fantastic story, fantastic read. The author has an unexplainable talent of creating worlds of Genies, magic and such and make it and the characters in that world, so believable.
The true test of an author is on the last page, when you find yourself wanting more of that world, that story, those characters.

Would be a solid 4 with better editing!

Man! This is a good story. It has a broken-hearted woman, a man who wishes he could make things right, a hateful mother, testosterone filled males or super naturals and a simple bakery.

An Exciting Read

I really enjoyed this novel. The words just closed for me. I appreciate an author that can construct a story that just flows. I enjoyed the growth of the main character. Can not wait for the journey to continue.

I've been looking for a new UF series that wasn't too long since a lot of my favorite ended last year or are ending this year and I think I've found it.

Completely original, fun, and full of all the stuff that makes this genre fabulous, I think this series just might end up becoming a favorite.
