Liesel (yes, her mother loved The Sound of Music ) and her big sister Marilyn have always relied on each other. And when Marilyn's husband runs off, leaving her broke with a distraught five year old, she needs all the help she can get. But then the sisters discover that little Alex has inherited a hotel in Cornwall from his father's dotty great-aunt. With its stunning sea views and Victorian Gothic castle appeal, it's a property the developers are ready to pay big money for. However, the will has one condition. They can sell the hotel if they wish, but only after running it for a season first. With only their tiny flat and not so salubrious view of Hackney central to lose, the girls decide to pack up and head down south. After all, how hard can it be to run a small hotel? And who knows who else they might meet down there.

Das Buch hat mich sofort, sowohl vom Cover als auch vom Klappentext, angesprochen. Wer würde nicht gerne ein Hotel an der Küste Englands erben? Zu dem Hotel gab es auch noch einen Hund und da ging sofort meine Fantasie und meine Neugier mit mir durch. Wie bringt man ein Hotel wieder zum Laufen? Würde Alex Vater auftauchen und versuchen seinen eigenen Sohn um das Erbe zu bringen? Fragen, denen ich unbedingt nach gehen wollte. Überzeugen konnte mich die Autorin mit ihren lebenswerten Charakteren ob es der kleine Junge im Supermannkostüm ist, die so gar nicht eitle Schönheit, der traurige Koch, die zickige polnische Serviererin oder das pingelige Mädchen für alles und nicht zu vergessen der hypochondrische Hund. Nach den ersten Seiten stand für mich fest, dass ich unbedingt wissen wollte, wie die Geschichte weitergeht.
Auch die Liebe kommt in diesem Buch nicht zu kurz und das mit interessanten Verwicklungen und nachvollziehbaren Handlungen. Einziger Wermutstropfen waren zwei oder drei verbale Entgleisungen, die sich die Autorin getrost hätte sparen können. Nichtsdestotrotz ist es ein liebenswertes Buch über Freundschaft, Liebe, Sommer-Feeling und ganz viel Herz geworden.

Drei Gründe, warum man das Buch lesen sollte:
1. Man diese Sehnsucht Richtung England oder Meer verspürt
2. Man frische Familienromane schätzt
3. Man skurrile Charaktere wie kleine Jungs im Supermannkostüm und hypochondrische Hunde liebt

Cute. Semi-lighthearted. Less twists and turns than expected.

Alex is seriously going to be screwed up as an adult. He needs counselling. So much trauma was glossed over in this book. Lots of important stuff rushed through and not revisited. An example is Eric. He was important and then we found out he was an alcoholic but then he was barely mentioned once his son was introduced. It felt gross, to me, to use Eric's alcoholism as a tool to get his son in the book then never revisit it again.

A bit of a unrealistic, nothing book but, then again, it was an easy, captivating read while in hospital.

Personal note, I don't think its cute when children swear and the adults in their life laugh at it.

sehingga suatu saat Alex medapat warisan sebuah hotel dari bibi Nancy ( bibi sang mantan Suami Maz ), mereka harus mengelola hotel tersebut sampai akhir musim panas. dan oleh karena itu mereka pindah ke Conrwall untuk dapat mengurus dan menpati rumah baru mereka,
disanalah mereka bertemu orang2 baru Lorraine, Kashia, Eric, Ed dan tentu saja kehidupan cinta Lies.
sayangnya cowo yang Lies cintai Tom Spencer yg seorang dokter hewan sudah memiliki tunangan.
Tom menyukai perilaku dan sifaat Lies yg polos selalu berterus terang, apa ada nya dan tentu saja cantik,
bagaimana selanjutnya kisah cinta merka, apakah Lies dan Tom dapat bersatu.

ditengah hiruk pikuk mereka mengurus hotel datanglah Nick sang papa Alex yg memiliki niat jahat kepada mereka.

1 hal yang aq tarik kesimpulan dr buku ini, kebersamaan dan persaudaraan nya sangat jelas terlihat.
Dimana masing2 karakter memiliki pengaruhnya...

I read a Little Black Dress book shortly after the range launched but haven't read another one until now. If this is an accurate representation of the quality of storytelling from the Little Black Dress imprint then I shall certainly be reading more.

A well crafted story with an ensemble cast of easily likeable characters, I found this book an absolute pleasure to read.

This is a great fun and easy beach book! Although I'm not a big fan of chick lit books, I decided to read this one just to hold me over while I still don't have another book that I was supposed to read. It took me so long to read it, though. I guess I wasn't just that excited for it. But over all, still a great book. :)

A Romantic Getaway is a fun and delightful read. There are many laugh-out-loud moments and the secondary characters are well-rounded too. Loved it.

Sarah Monk is another 'new-to-me' author and I will be sure to check out her future books.
