Set in the early 1900s, a time rife with urban discord, The Good Goblin by David McElroy is a great wedding of the past and present worlds. This modernization of an old fable was heartfelt and told in a storybook manner I really enjoyed. In his search for a friend, a kind goblin named Ben migrates to the human world, settling in the concrete jungle of St Louis. He struggles against threats both human and otherwise in this endearing tale about friendship and kindness. A meaningful and entertainin ...more

Such a quick, cozy read! I enjoy books that have some fantasy elements, but are based in our world. I feel like it makes the story and characters more relatable. Ben is a sweet character that you really want to root for. I also love the time period (1900). I look forward to more good goblin stories!

I loved this book! It shows that you should get to understand someone before you judge them on who they are perceived to be. The goblins are seen as “bad” by the humans, but once you meet Ben, he is far from it. Such a well developed character! Would highly recommend this book!

I'm not usually much for fantasy fiction but I completely got sucked into this one--the characters are so well written that you can't help but root for them. This was a quick read that made for such a pleasant Sunday afternoon on the couch. Passed it to a sister who loved it as well. Seems like this will make for a nice gift option this holiday season!

David McElroy is a writer and designer who has been creating stories in one way or another since childhood. A chance pickup at an elementary school book fair began his fascination with goblins, and he’s always believed they could be more than simple fodder for stalwart adventurers.

He lives in Lebanon, IL with his wife and daughter.
