Malachi and I is a love story that transcends time. It’s original, historical, and beautiful. JJ McAvoy gave us a thousand love stories all in one, and I loved the way it was told! It’s not every day you read a romance that’s different from the ones you normally read. I love that this was out of the box and it kept my attention from the start.

jj1 Title: Malachi And I
Author: J.J. McAvoy
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Apples... Bloody Apples. Who knew just a boring fruit could start so many tragedies?

Who loves romance? Me!
It all started with one truth... a feeling we, as readers all understand.. why do we continue to buy books that are so similar? The same love, same romance, the never ending vicious cycle of finding a version of happily ever after? Its because when we pick up a novel we are doing it knowing that our feelings

First off, thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me an ARC for this book!

Well, this book had such a rocky start. I couldn't find any way to connect to the characters. Esther was a girl who seemed so flaky and plain boring and indecisive, just your regular young adult. Not at all impressive nor could I relate to her despite being the same age.

Malachi, well at least your name was cool? He was such a blank page and that's so ironic since he had 999 lives to pull from. He got bett

I am a true fan of J.J. McAvoy and enjoy many of her stories. I did like this one yet not as much as some of her others. This story had a different take on what she usually writes, it shows how diverse her writing style is. This is a love story of two people whose love and lives have surpassed time. Unfortunately their love is strong but each time they meet, tragedy happens. To be born again, suffer again, which brings us to present times. Malachi has learned that to stay away from her will prol ...more

We absolutely love when an Author takes what can be considered a risk, writing something completely different to what came before. I don't think I've ever rated J.J McAvoy such a low rating but sadly this book was a disappointment, I was looking forward to a gut-wrenching sad story but instead, I was left with a disorientated haphazard love story that felt very meh?
I'm a hypersensitive person, I get emotional after watching those less than 30seconds adds on Facebook or WhatsApp with all those cute puppies & babies, so Yes I won't deny that I didn't tear up a little whilst reading this book but it still didn't feel enough?

I'm a huge fan of the life McAvoy brings to her characters. She has a knack for dialogue, it's so natural and it makes her stories a pleasure to read. I don't want to say too much about the relationship between Malachi and Esther. It's otherworldly, I'll leave it at that.

The middle started to drag a little and I skimmed a bit through the scenes of the past but overall I really enjoyed it. I was impressed with the ending becaus

This was such a unique plot that when I read the blurb months ago I couldn’t wait to read it. It kept me engaged from start to finish and with being a historical fan, I loved that aspect of the story. I enjoy Ms. McAvoy’s writing and her characters, who’s flaws make them real and likable. I would have loved an epilogue to see Malachi and his lady’s life in the future but I was still happy with the ending. 4 Stars!

This novel was definitely unique and different. It reminded me a lot of My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares. The beginning was great, lots of tension, but the further I read the more the romance just wasn't there for me.

I'm a hardcore fan of J.J. McAvoy and I can't even explain you how I long for and anticipate her upcoming books with near-cardiac-arrest excitement.

I have been reading excerpts of Malachi and I on her website and every week, my excitement grew. I even asked her on Twitter about what her angle of this story was, and now that I've read it - Malachi and I didn't disappoint me.

J.J. McAvoy is one of the those authors who does not shy away from writing something new. Malachi and I is going to be one o

My favourite book of the year so far. I couldn’t put it down, and I’m already thinking about buying a few copies for Christmas gifts.

A beautiful yet tragic love story, that takes us on a journey into the past. The two main characters are destined to be together, and they are over and over again. A thousand times, to be exact, they find each other and die shortly after, doomed to repeat this cycle in their next lives.

As tragic as it may sound, the book is rather amusing at times t

What if I told you...I usually enjoy this author's writing style, but this time around it felt so completely off, I'm still dazed and confused why that happened.

What if I told you...The storyline seemed to jump around all over the place to the point I found it to be, well, pointless and unengaging.

Well, that's how I honestly felt about this one, my fellow romance book loving friends. I guess the first red flag to me should have been in the original synopsis Pocahontas and John Smith were listed

What we have here is an addictive, unique, new take on ALL the tragic love stories throughout history! The concept was brilliant. I mean, how could you go wrong, when many of these couples are so universally loved and renown?! and Malachi and his Love's story goes alllllllllllll the way back to Adam & Eve. That's a lot of history, a lot of love and heartache, and a heck of a story to be told.

This has to be one of the ultimate romance stories of the year? I mean, Malachi and

I often use the word "smart" when I am referring to Ms. McAvoy 's writing, and so is the case with Malachi and I .
What a wonderful trip through time, visiting the original love stories that have spanned time. There are certain bullet points that I like to be checked off when I am reading and reviewing a book . This one meets, and exceeds most of them.
We get just enough angst to keep going, wondering how it is going to pan out.

I received a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

I absolutely love J.J. McAvoy’s books and usually I’m pretty up to date with her release dates so I was quite surprised when I came across this book on NetGalley because it was the first time I’m heard about it. Anyway I automatically requested it and not just because I know that the author has an astonishing writing style but because the synopsis intrigued me quite a bit, not to mention the stunning cover.

From the blurb you can tell this is a story about the same people being reincarnated and I was so excited for that, I haven’t read that many reincarnation stories and I wanted to read something different from the author.

The story starts in modern times, one of our main characters is Malachi and he is going through his 99th life, he’s obviously been through so many thing in life, we visit a lot of popular love stories and he offers a bit of inside info which I found utterly cute, like a l

This is one book that I had been waiting to read, and as soon as I saw it come up on NetGalley, I was so excited. It's taken me a couple of weeks though to write the review as Malachi and I is a hard one to write I have found. The one thing that readers need to know is that this book was amazing and will set your hearts alight as you are drawn into the different stories of the past. I wanted to like this book SO much more than I actually did. I loved the idea - two people who live a thousand lifetimes and fall in love in each one, inspiring some of the world-famous romance stories throughout time - and there were moments where J.J. McAvoy stunned me with her words and knowledge of history, and made me literally laugh out loud at some of the funny stuff Esther said and did. But there were also times where the writing was juvenile and disjointed and I found myself wondering i ...more

From the intriguing cover to the heart-wrenching blurb, Malachi and I is unlike anything J.J. McAvoy has done before. A story between two lovers, who are destined to fall. Only to be brought back to life, and relive the tragedy all over again.

In each life, Malachi is drawn to his lost love like a moth to a flame. Due to his own selfishness he can't let her go. But this time, he swears an oath that he will keep his distance. No matter how hard it will be, his love will finally have a life filled
I finally got to this book and while I thought it was relatively solid read, I did find that it was not my favorite from this author. I first discovered J.J. when I read That thing between Elit & Gwen which I loved. With this particular story, I was waiting for the chemistry to click a little better than it seemed to and for things to just be more intense and thrilling. I liked seeing some of their past lives and the main characters butt heads in the beginning, but I did grow bored with the past ...more

I have mixed feelings about this book.

I liked both main characters well enough. Although, I think I'd have like a little more description and back story to them. The romantic concept was very cool. The whole soulmate thing really melted my heart. I just wish it was executed a little better. I understood the need for those jumps in time but the writing was unclear and confusing. The steaminess in this book was practically non existent. So kindda disa

There was so much potential in the book. The cover, main plot gives you this dream of a love saga that's turned into a tragedy.

I left for the past lovers in the book. But felt no passion for the present. Also I dnf the book. When I first read the description I was looking for a passionate love story. Which I never got in this book.

Its just a contemporary fictional book. What annoys me the most is the plot. When you read the plot you can easily imagine it to be a deep, passionate love.

WOW....What did I just read?

JJ McAvoy has outdone herself with this mystical story.

Love transcends time. Love transcends life and death.

I was captivated from the first page onward. JJ is one of the authors I just read. I don't read blurbs or synopsis, I JUST READ. So I had no idea what this book was about. As I continued to read the story slowly began to unfold. A thousand lives, a thousand deaths and a love story with each one.

I don't want to give you too much in the story because, like me,
