REVIEW: CROSSING THE LINE By Jen Katemi is a stand alone, contemporary erotic, ménage, romance novella focusing on married couple Tam and Julia, and widower Dominic.

Told from three first person points of view (Tam, Julia, Dominic) CROSSING THE LINE follows Tam and Julia, married for twenty two years but a couple whose relationship has lost some of the spontaneity and excitement it once had. Hoping to add some spice back into the bedroom, Julia searches online for a potential partner willing to become the third person in their sexual relationship. Enter Dominic, a widower looking for something more than a meaningless one night stand.

CROSSING THE LINE is a quick read; a sexually erotic, passionate and sensual short story about two people trying to add a little excitement back in their sex life, and how one man's need to be wanted changes the couple's relationship dynamics. Although deeply committed to one another Tam and Julia will find themselves with the addition of Dominic into their lives.

Tam and Julia, a married couple of 22 years, love each other unconditionally but after 22 years have noticed that the spontaneity and hunger for the physical side of their relationship has waned. In conversation they have discussed light-heartedly the concept of bringing a third person into their bed. But when Julia decides to initiate contact with the mysterious and captivating Darcy, will this bold move make or break a connection this couple believed would stand the test of time?

Crossing the Line is certain to appeal to those of us with a love of sensually stimulating stories, laden with unbridled passion and an intensely erotic plot. And while there is no shortage of sizzling hot action, there is also a beautiful story of love, commitment and compassion that brings together three exceptional people through unusual circumstances.

I’m looking forward to more inspiring stories from this talented author.

When I first started reading this story I will admit I had put it down for a while. The beginning had reminded me of another authors book that started out similarly and it took that author sixty eight percent of the book before they got to even meeting the other person in the ménage. That said I am so glad I picked it back up.

Jules and Thomas/Tam have been married for over twenty-one years and they are going through a sexual complacency in their relationship. While still deeply in love they have noticed a shift towards more of bodily need than of passion and romance. A while back during some post-coital bliss Tam had mentioned that he wouldn’t mind having a ménage. Jules is on board and they join an online site and post their needs and wants. Just when Jules didn’t think she would find anyone that would fit their needs she came across an ad from Mr. Darcy. Once she replied she and Tam spent some time communicating with Mr. Darcy and after taking care of the mundane things they decided to meet up.

As Jules and Tam are waiting for Darcy to show up their fears about possibly jeopardizing their marriage come to the front. Both are concerned about what crossing this line might mean for their future. While very nervous and a bit unsure they decide to go ahead and meet with Mr. Darcy.

Mr. Darcy is a few years younger than Jules and Tam and he has had a few ménage meetings with other couples. Once the preliminary meet up has taken place, Mr. Darcy who has now shared his real name of Dominic/Dom tells Jules and Tam that while he would like this to go forward if they are uncertain of anything he can leave. Jules and Tam decide to cross the line and meet Dom halfway.

Jules and Tam are very much a devoted couple, they can read each others looks and responses with ease. It was great to get all of the participants’ perspective. Learning about their insecurities, wants and desires that filtered through their minds made everything real. Finding out about Dominic’s past was heart breaking. Seeing him struggle with dealing with his past loss and how he was able to only feel when he spent time with another established loving couple was very poignant. The three of them coming together seemed to be exactly what they all needed.

This story had everything major heat, a steadiness and a maturity to all of the characters, emotional depth, pain and healing and the possibility for a much fuller and richer future.

Side note this story also contains male on male action so if that makes you uncomfortable please be aware that it is in there.

What a fantastic job Jen Katemi has done here. Crossing the Line is the lovely and very erotic tale of a married couple in their early forties who love each other dearly, wouldn't dream of cheating, but need to revive their stale bedroom connection. They make the choice to explore together, and decide to try a menage experience. In a few chapters, we see them meet their chosen third for the first time, and experience with the three of them a gently beautiful awakening to a renewed and expanded love life. I loved all three characters. These people are mature, they communicate, they value themselves and each other and treat each other with caring and respect. The result is an stunningly erotic novella focused on character and caring, and I've never read one better.

As always Jen Katemi writes beautifully, and introduces a special kind of love and tenderness into her story “Crossing The Line”. It is a ménage story with a difference. It is gentle, it is kind, and it has compassion running through it. The parties are not just out for a quick sexual experience, they are in this for the long haul. It makes a difference to me, as the reader, that they have more than a quick sexual connection.

I would highly recommend this to a lover of ménage short stories, but also one who loves a happy ever after. Jen managed to make me smile as I read “The End” as I believed it was the beginning for this unusual threesome.

DNF. Didn't look closely enough at this before I started it. Just saw Katemi was an Aussie author. Not my genre.
