A Tale of Intrigue and Reconnaissance follows a lone spy as he journeys from the snowy Abimelech Mountain Range to the the River City of Levyt, further still to the island of the Gawei and beyond. The objective of his travels is to gather information on any threats to the League with whatever means required. The spy's first assignment is to gather intel on the recent rumors from the Abimelech. He has recently made his way to the mountain paths on outskirts of the Abimelechs' Great War Hall and now hides in the snow covered brush as he looks for an opportunity to infiltrate the War Hall's walls.
This was an enjoyable short story about a spy whose conscience is in conflict with his sense of duty. Set in a world where war seems to be the main way of life and even the traders can be swept into the violence at any moment. It felt a little bit rushed at times and I felt that the story could have been slowed down slightly, perhaps with the addition of a bit more description when the spy arrived at new locations - I felt that there was a rich world just outside of the text and the opportunity to reveal this was missed.
I would suggest that this book could do with a little extra editing and some changes could be made to the ebook formatting, for example, the text is all centred and you can’t change it so that the text is aligned to the left of the page - this is not something I have found in a book before and it did detract from my enjoyment of the story.
Overall, a fun fantasy tale that would be good for a quick read.
