About the author

Nate Evans wanted to be a secret agent, a firefighter, or a magician when he was a kid. But he also loved to read and write, and he grew up to be the author of more than thirty-five children’s books, including the New York Times bestsellers Ponyella and The Jellybeans and the Big Dance, both cowritten with Laura Numeroff, and the series Humpty Dumpty Jr.: Hardboiled Detective, an IndieBound “Inspired Recommendation for Kids.” He also illustrated Laura Numeroff”s 10-Step Guide to Living with Your Monster, among others. I have found a new Christmas book! With fantastic art! A really fun book for little children who are into dinos! It really brought back memories; from the 3rd to 5th grade I was really into dinosaurs. I wanted to be a paleontologist when I grew up, but math kind of got in my way. A really nice book for your Christmas shelf!

I loved this book! The illustrations were beautiful, the text and jokes were hilarious and I really enjoyed reading it. I can only imagine how much the students I plan on reading it to would enjoy it as well!

What's a dinosaur cookies with the holiday spirit supposed to do? He longs to be the cookie Santa receives on his plat, but bell, gingerbread man, and star all get picked first. Will he figure out a way to get picked? Cute illustrations that are colorful and complement the text well. The text is simple and fun for young children and parents alike. A perfect read aloud for bedtime for fans of dinosaurs and Christmas.

Silly and fun - a dinosaur cookie wants to be on Santa's plate but getting there may put him on the naughty list instead. The ending was definitely unexpected. This one was almost as good as the original Cookiesaurus Rex, I look forward to more sequels!

A dinosaur shaped cookie speaks through speech bubbles and lets us know that he is not happy to be left off of the plate intended for Santa. The cookie sabotages other cookies’ chances of being on the coveted plate until guilt forces him to do the right thing.

This book will make very little sense if a reader doesn’t already know about the tradition of leaving cookies for Santa. It also makes very little sense to me why there was a cookie of dinosaur at all and how he ended up on top of the Christmas tree by the end of the story.

Cookiesaurus Rex wants to be Santa’s cookie and go to the North Pole, but Mr. Spatula has a different cookie in mind. As Cookiesaurus Rex tries to be the cookie on Santa’s plate, disaster strikes. Although he makes his way to Santa’s cookie plate he realizes that perhaps the cost of showing his Christmas spirit might have been too high.

Cookiesaurus Christmas is a sweet story about the price paid trying to make it to the top. It shares a lesson on friendship and the importance of being apart of something instead of trying to be something. The play on words throughout keeps all readers entertained, and the illustrations are bright pencil drawings that incorporate the whole picture (counter) and all of Cookiesaurus Rex’s individual ideas and shenanigans.

I did not realize that Cookiesaurus was a series until I began to research for this review, though this is only the second in the series. Cookiesaurus, whose pleas and excuses make up the text of the story, wants to be the cookie left out for Santa. He knocks other cookies off the plate, making several messes and hurting his friends. Near the end, he realizes that his friends have been hurt by his actions and apologizes and helps the cookies back onto the plate. As a reward, he is chosen to top the Christmas tree. The style of writing reminds me of Mo Willems’ Pigeon books.

A dinosaur-shaped cookie wants to be THE cookie on Santa's plate on Christmas morning, but the children keep choosing other cookies instead! The cookiesaurus sabotages the other cookies' chances so he can be the one.
I used this one for STEM book club before a lesson on "Cookie Chemistry", where we talked about the processes that transform various ingredients into a cookie. The book was great for my K-2 audience. The kids thought Cookiesaurus was hilarious.

A funny book about a T-rex Santa Cookie wanting the honor of being eaten by Santa. He fights all the other cookies so he can have the spot on Santa's plate. I didn't like the ending but the story was funny.

I’m not sure Cookiesaurus’ self-dialogue works in this book, at least not with how much there is of it (maybe if there was less). Felt like older humor, so the combination of these two things made for a bedtime read-aloud that didn’t work for my 2.5 yo.

A dinosaur cut-out cookie wants to be put on the plate for Santa, but other cookies ( a star, bell, and gingerbread man) keep getting chosen before him. He pushes them off the plate, but then repents. He ends up being selected to top the tree.

T-Rex the cookie has only one Christmas wish, and that's to be on the plate of cookies for Santa. Try as he might, as he takes actions into his on hands to land on Santa's plate he falls short, and has a change of heart. He is finally rewarded and placed in a special place for all to see.

Sorry, but I found nothing appealing about this book.

Instead, just my opinion, the title character is all fake cuteness and personality, nothing inside. Sometimes he behaves like a rude, impatient child.

Balloons of dialog are like bursts of attempted cleverness.

And I don't believe that the TV-like, kid-sized swearing has any place in a storybook. As in, "Wait one stinkin' stompin' minute." Ick!

Was there going to be any improvement?

Instead of getting better, this story got worse. Was it supposed to be imitating a cartoon? Kids' cartoons are better. Almost any entertainment that's really developed for children -- by caring adults -- would be better.

A good following to Cookiesaurus Rex. The main character is the sassiest, most contrary dinosaur cookie on Santa's plate. These books are funny and the illustrations add to their charm. This is a good choice for a holiday book selection.
