I suppose I should add a review since I'm literally the only person on here to have read this book at this point. It lived up to the description - short stories, moving from the author's native Bolivia to Paris to Mars and back to Bolivia. The protagonists are lost, scared, near-suicidal, barely clinging to what relationships they have. This is really a 2.5-star read for me. A collection of stories, like many such books it's a mixed bag, most of the stories somewhat fantastical but with a basis in the real world. While the title story is set in a Martian colony, many are in the author's Bolivia, and the characters are typically living lives of desperation both quiet and loud. I felt like this book kept dancing along the edges of being really great without ever really getting there. Admittedly, short stories are not really my thing, but I have come to appreciate the power of a really great collection. This one was fine. I'm sure there is always a little something lost when reading in translation, but I was not especially gripped by the subject matter here.
