My name is Kai Okamoto. I deal drugs. Trade escapism for cold, hard cash.
Born to a British mother and a Japanese father, I grew up poor, hungry, and alone. Hiding from the monsters at our door. The debt collectors.

I’ve worked hard to escape my past. I’m not that frightened little boy anymore. I’m wealthy, secure, and sure of myself. At least I was, until I met Lily.

I am sorry but Nope! Nope! This just didn't do it for me...At all! I found Kai to be pushy and the Lily to be irritating. I have nothing against A fast paced book as long as it has 'substance'.. but this book just didn't have that. I found the book to lack depth . There were so many times where I wished for something more while I was reading it.

He is the ultimate bad boy, an anti-hero, but he has a good heart, loves his mother, takes care of her and finds himself falling for a very good girl. Kai was raised in poverty and vowed to make something of himself, to have money, a home and food on the table for both himself and his mother. Too bad he achieved his goals as one of the lowest of the low, a drug dealer. Never mind

Kai Okamoto, 21, happens to be at the right place, at the right time when it comes to meeting Lily Hawkins, 20. Too bad he’s in the wrong profession. Lily doesn’t think much of guys who deal drugs, but then she’s unaware that she’s falling for one.

“I see hunger, and desire in this eyes, and for the first time I feel beautiful, and powerful.”

Kai and Lily make a cute couple. It was refreshing to read about two available people who find each other and get to know each other without any OW/OM drama

Kai is a young man who grew up in a very poor household with a single mom. After an encounter with a rich drug dealer, he decides to get into that life, in order to make a lot of money and give his mom the life he feels she deserves. He becomes a rich drug dealer just like he intended. Then one day he runs into an amazing young woman named Lily who turns his life upside down (in a good way). At first, Lily doesn't trust him, but eventually he wins her trust and they fall in love. Of course, Kai ...more

This was a nice, thoughtful romance. I always enjoy stories that encourage the reader to see beyond the narrow definition of a title (like "drug dealer" or "absent father"). They're a great reminder that we are all just people, and when placed in a certain set of circumstances, we make decisions - some wise, some poor. All of our choices are much more understandable, however, when you have a clear picture of the background. I particularly like the message in this tale, that happiness isn't somet ...more

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

I know that I am in the minority here when I say this but this book just did not work for me. The story line was okay. I really wanted to like it but for me I just could not get past how choppy the story felt. In my opinion it also needed a little work in the grammar department.

With that being said I do have some good things to say as well. I understand where the author wanted to take this story and it was a great idea. The plot definitely kep

I didn’t read the blurb on this, so I had no idea who or what the story was about when I dove in and while I can imagine that the fact that Kai was dealing drugs might be a bit of an issue for some, I would ask that you stick with him and get the full facts as to why he is doing what he is…you may not change your mind but you will at least understand.
I liked Kai, he was a great character, I loved the bond between him and his mother, the fact that he was willing to do whatever it took to try and

I just love a gritty bad boy romance and Kai by author Michelle Abbott is right up my alley. I like my book boyfriends to be really strong (mentally and physically) and take charge of what he wants. Kai had a lot of these aspects, but he is also thoughtful and caring. I personally would have loved Kai to be bit rougher around the edges, but that is just my personal opinion.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Kai is 21 years old,British/Japanese handsome and a genuine "nice" guy, but with a dreadful occupation...he is a drug dealer. This may put many people off from reading the story but it is actually well written, from both his and Lily's POV, and you "hear" why he does what he does. Still not my cup of tea but, as I said, it is a interesting storyline and flows nicely so that you're drawn into the story. Lily i ...more

Lily is a nice “ordinary” girl. When she gets her bag snatched, taking the last of her money, she thinks life has hit rock bottom. Then she meets Kai, the handsome, mysterious stranger who returns her bag and quickly charms her. Instead of a stolen handbag Lily quickly becomes the victim of a stolen heart.

Kai seems to be the perfect man, handsome, charming, kind and generous. Unfortunately he has a secret that could tear their relationship apart.

I enjoyed how this story unfolded, the narrative a

I liked Kai, I loved the bond between him and his mother, the fact that he was willing to do whatever it took to try and make a better life for the two of them. But isn’t it always the case that opposites attract, and in this case it spoke volumes because Lily is everything that Kai is n as much as she is struggling to keep her head above water but unlike Kai. She faces her situation head on and would never co

I read this book in two days. It's easy and flows. It is truly a romance with a twist. Sometimes making money leads a person to things they might not necessarily enjoy doing. That could be the case with a drug lord, KAI. But, when he falls in love with a woman who openly expresses her disgust for people who sell drugs, he's conflicted. She simply can't find out. Of course, she does and where the plot goes from there was truly the only direction it could take. I thought the story was good. Michel ...more

Kai by Michelle Abbott is a very good book. I love the uniqueness of this storyline. Kai, the lead male character is a drug dealer. Other than making that choice because he was poor, he is everything you could want in a hero. Loving, caring and determined to take care of his mother. Kai's world is rocked when he meets Lily. Lily is a good girl and Kai knows she wouldn't approve. Can their relationship survive such a secret? Read the book to find out. I like that Kai's profession is not glorified ...more

A beautiful story about love and friendship

My Review

I read this book in two days. It was a very enjoyable read. The characters felt like they were my friends. I love how the author took the time to build the relationships, and immerse us into their world.

There were no frills or pretending with this story. The characters felt real as they struggled with everyday problems.

Mostly, what I loved about this story was that the female was no damsel in distress. She held her own and stood her ground whic

How I discovered this book: It was submitted to Rosie Amber's Review Team, of which I am a member. Kai is a 'new adult' romance... not exactly my genre, but the blurb appealed to me.

This story is nicely written, flows well and is very readable; I like the author's writing style. The book starts with Lily, who works in a supermarket, discovering that her wages have not been paid into her bank. The calamity is well written, drawing the reader into Lily's world straight away, though I had

Lily and Kai are the main characters in this story. They make a sweet couple. They are the opposites of each other. The chemistry and scenes are hot and steamy. I like the aspects of the story and the plot is okay.
It is very fast paced but that suits the story. Kai is a drug dealer with conscience and a bit too sweet but he is likeable. Lily is the sweet girl and has not the easiest time at the present.
I can recommend this

Michelle Abbott lives in the UK and hates describing herself in 3rd person.

She's a self-published author of new adult romance, and likes to write about heroes who begin as the underdog and are protective of their girl.

She's an avid reader of romance, is addicted to coffee and loves wine and chocolate, so yeah, not the most healthy eating and drinking habits :-) She spends way too much time online
