Piper McAdams’s life was normal. Career? Check. Boyfriend? Check. Friends? Check. One unsettling run in with a homeless man turns everything from normal to terrifying. She begins seeing…things.

Things she can’t seem to explain or make any sense.

As if things aren’t already getting out of hand, Piper receives news that the

WOW my hearts still pounding after reading this Supernatural horror feast. The heroine of the tale is Piper, who had a terrible beginning in life with a violent and abusing father. When her father disappears she goes to live with her grandfather. Piper is a reporter who lives in New York Her life seems fine until she receives a call informing her that her grandfather’s dead and she has to head back to Alabama.
I am not going to spoil this story for you, if y

I will freely admit to being a pussycat when it comes to anything horror but I still can’t help wanting to read it. I gave Chosen a five-star rating because for me it gave me all sorts of feels. Feelings like horrified, grossed out, stricken just to name a few, and the ending was as a horror book should end. The first chapter had me running upstairs to snuggle my kids because I wanted them close. It is during this chapter that you get to know the main character, Piper McAdams, as a child. For th ...more

Horror is being scare for someone (or characters) you care about, this is the main principle of horror, and it's Stephen King who said it not me... And in this book you don't care for those characters who are not well placed in the beginning. The writing is also not that great. Not good. Sorry. ...more

This is the first time reading anything by this author and it will not be the last! Despite the overall rating being "okay," I thought it was great! It gave me the creeps and I had difficulty putting it down. There was one thing I expected to happen (which it did), but the ending totally surprised me. I really hope there is a sequel but leaving as a standalone is fine too as it makes you wonder what would happen next. *note* my dates read are incorrect. ...more

i didn't finish this book. I got about 1/4 of the way through it and gave up on it. Now, i like horror stories. I don't even mind a little gore. What i DON'T like is someone like this author who thinks horror is ONLY creepy stuff and gore. Each chapter begins normally and then quickly descends into monsters and things that go bump in the night. There is no pacing. No build-up. Just wham wham wham every chapter. I prefer story, suspense, creative writing. Guess i'll look elsewhere. ...more

I was super excited to read this after eyeing the daunting cover and it certainly lived up to my expectations. Every page was filled with either spine-tingling suspense or terrifying horrors.

This was one of the creepiest books I’ve read in a while. But it’s not just the freaky scenes that cause goosebumps to rise, it’s the psychological aspects as well.

Horror movies have the advantage of using things that jump out at you to scare, but books need to have a level of psychological horror to make it

I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review, and I am more than thrilled with the outcome!

R.S. Broadhead has done it again, folks! This is one author that I have truly enjoyed reading over the last few years, as her books continuously show just how much she has blossomed as a writer. It has really been a pleasure to watch her progression as author. She seems to have found her niche and flow, and her evolution in writing has been amazing.

As for the book

When she has to travel to a town called Hell to bury her last family member, that is exactly where she feels she ends up is in Hell! R.S. Broadhead has done it again!! If you are into Urban Legends this could be a book for you!
R.S.Broadhead new book “Chosen” from her Urban Legend Series is an easy read that you just do not want to put down. Ms. Broadhead has given us a character to empathize with from the beginning. “Piper” is a typical southern girl that trusts too easily even when she does not wish to. The story begins dark and embellishes the dark side of a legend. Throughout the story Piper feels emotionally charged by her heritage and her lack of understa

Supernatural Horror at its best!

R.S. Broadhead is one of those authors that I absolutely love going into blind. You never know where her books are gonna go but you do know that it's gonna take you on a journey that you will think about for a long time! I'm pretty good with plot twists but I can never predict a R.S. book!

In this book we follow Piper from an abusive childhood to adulthood where the unexplainable starts happening. After receiving a phone call about her grandfather she takes a tri

I got a small vacation recently and could get in some books while I was away. This book was, for a me, a slow start but I was curious about who the man is on the throne was. I was curious about the entire book. I thought the ending left we wanting more closer but it is a series so I may read the next book to find out more. I am still on the fence a little with this book but I enjoyed trying to guess the ending.

Well well well.
This is a book full of creepy scares!
I mean, just look at that cover...speaks for itself really.
I must admit, I was led down a different path than I thought I was going to be taking but I'm not at all dissatisfied with the place I ended up.

It's a wondrous collaboration of horror, mystery and suspense. Not enough to keep me awake at night but just the right of spook to make me be wary of the shadows!

My heart broke a little bit and although I wasn't expecting an all singing, all d

This book is great for drinking games - one shot every time Piper passes out and you'll be drunk halfway though.

Let's not get ahead of myself though. So I like to get all the horror and crime novels that are given away for free on Amazon. I hope one day I will find a hidden gem and promote it heavily. Until then however I'm sure to kiss a lot of frogs.

As in most bad horror novels this one has unlikable and stupid characters, but goes to the next level so that all of them are unlikable and stupi

First off, I fell in love with the cover for Chosen. How fantastically chilling. I had high hopes the book would be as creepy as the cover. Got my wish.

Fans of urban legends and horror that gives you goose bumps and makes you jump at those little noises from somewhere out of sight will love this one.

Holy heart racer, Batman!! Let me come clean first off that I am a huge, HUGE chicken. I rarely read horror stories. But there are some authors that write them so well, I just can’t help but read them anyway. Stephen King, of course, is the first that comes to mind for me. However, forever and always, R.S. Broadhead will ALWAYS be right up at the top with him! I’m a very quick reader, generally. This book took me at least a week longer than I expected. Why? See the aforementioned HUGE chicken – ...more

Chosen by R.S. Broadhead is the first volume of The Urban Legends Series. If you like the books that mix fantasy, mystery, magic and are peppered with a bit of romance just for flavor, it means you've won the jackpot.

Again we will soar into the darkness of the human soul.
R.S. Broadhead will arm us for this trip only with a simple flashlight, but even more, we’ll have the surprise that in full journey this will start to malfunction and, at some point, it will stop completely. Did I make you curio

Chills, I tell you, chills. I once told the author, R.S. Broadhead that her book, Chosen will forever be a part of my nightmares. She only smiled at that comment.
If you are daring enough to read a book that will give you the chills from beginning to end and then linger in your mind for days, then please pick up Chosen by R.S. Broadhead. I went into reading this book with an open mind since the premise promised something dark and torturous. I love a good thriller but Chosen is so much more.

Wow!  Just Wow! This book is creepy as hell.  Great read to get you into the Halloween spirit.
Piper sure has been through alot with the abuse at the hands of her father, then his disappearance, living with her grandfather only to be sent away for college.  After college she started a new life in New York.  New job, boyfriend and friend.  Everything is perfect.

Perfect doesn’t last long when everything suddenly falls apart.  She gets a call about the unexpected death of her grandfather.  Her b

I am such a picky scary stories reader haha no joke! But I had seen this cover when I had supported the release Thunderclap and I knew immediately this book would both give me chills but also perk my interest (all of this before I even flipped the first page) I even talked about it so much that my fiancé who doesn't read as much as I do had to support the Thunderclap campaign and asked if I bought a copy on release day (really? He should have known the answer to that one!) and here we are, at th ...more

What an incredible and creepy read!!! Yup! Just in time for Halloween...ha! This is my first time reading anything from this author, and I am impressed and intrigued. She was able to grab my interest with the synopsis. And, with each turn of the page, I was glued to the "edge of my seat" with the eerie feeling her words brought about.

The story was well written to evoke the specific feeling of fear and panic. Of course those are just a couple mentioned with i

The synopsis gives you a glimpse, but it is so much more. The main character Piper has a rough start in life (to put it mildly). Piper ends up in an actual town named Hell. She is lured to stay because she wants to finds out more about her grandfather's life and discover the secrets as to why he never spoke of it. The story is told mostly in first person. It is unsettling. Even with the right amount of validation moments, Piper's experiences feel more like watching someone have a serious schizop ...more

Chosen by R.S. Broadhead is a great book that I highly recommend. This story is the perfect mix of dark, mystery, suspense, and fantasy. The entire time it left me begging for a glimpse as to what direction it was going to head. I never would have guess even down to the last few pages. Now I am left starved for the future books in this series. I can't wait.

Piper is a young woman with a terrible past. No matter how hard she tries she can't seem to catch a break. Curve ball after curve ball.

Wow, this was one of the spookiest books I've read this year. It's one of those stories, that stick with you. Book was on my mind a lot, and it's definitely one of those book, you have to read during the day. :) Especially the end...

Piper had a really ruff childhood. She was abused by her father and after closed in small closet. She heard voice there, talking to her, from the darkness. One day, when she was in the closet again, someone

This was a great story, different from what I am used to. I love the author's writing, her other books are awesome and very intriguing. She brings a very refreshing twist to her stories, you never really know what is going to happen. That being said I'll move on to what I like about this story.

This was a very goose bump inducing story. I liked Pipers character a lot, she was very down to earth. There were such creepy moments that I didn't blame her from closing her eyes. When she had to go to h

Stupid protagonist, unlikeable characters otherwise, overdone premise and typical horror movie dumb ass moves made me want to put my eyes into a perpetual eye rolling machine. This started out scary and downright sinister, until it turned silly.
Piper was often left alone. Locked in a closet by her father. Her mother having died during childbirth. She always heard that voice calling out to her. Almost a whisper but clear in its purpose. Until the day her father answered the door. She could hear the child-like voice telling him to give them the child. The last thing she heard was the door banging shut. Her father was gone forever.

Eighteen years later; now a woman on h
