The arrival of a new enemy. The start of a greater battle. A destiny to be defended.
A mighty war, waged every 500 years, has returned to the realm of mortals. And with it, the Day of Serpents arrives to wreak havoc upon the world.
Assefa and Sanura struggle to complete their mate bond, as they also continue their fight in this preternatural war of fire versus water. Unseen enemies, surprise magic attacks, and betrayal lurk at every turn for the couple, and revelations about their powers and past come to light.
As Assefa and Sanura fight to seal their bond and love, destiny and divinity may have already sealed their fate.
N. D. Jones, Ed.D. is a USA Today bestselling author who lives in Maryland with her family. In her desire to see more novels with positive, sexy, and three-dimensional Black characters as soul mates, friends, and lovers, she took on that challenge herself. Along with the fantasy romance series Forever Yours, and a contemporary romance trilogy, The Styles of Love, she has authored three paranormal romance series: Winged Warriors, Death and Destiny, and Dragon Shifter Romance, and two fantasy series: Feline Nation and Fairy Tale Fatale.
N.D. has expanded her publications to include nonfiction works. Because visual diversity matters, N.D. created a Fantasy in Black adult coloring book series. In this series, coloring enthusiasts will find Black men and women represented as fairies, angels, mermaids, and many other fantastical creatures.
Leaning into her more than twenty years as an educator, N.D. has developed a Resilience series for Black women and men. The first two books in the series are: The Color of My Resilience: A Guided Self-Care Journal for Black Men and The Color of My Resilience: A Guided Self-Care Journal for Black Women.
N.D. is also the founder of Kuumba Publishing, an art, audiobook, eBook, and paperback company that is a forum for creativity, with a special commitment to promoting and encouraging creative works from authors and artists of African descent. Her teenage daughter created the image design for Kuumba Publishing, while her son has written a role-playing game using original characters from a new paranormal romance series and her husband manages the company—making Kuumba Publishing a true family affair.
Once again, N.D. Jones brings strong and passionate writing to the table with OF DECEPTION AND DIVINITY and Assefa and Sanura find the ties that bind them strained as their partial bond seems to become more of a weakness than proof that they truly are meant to be together. Sometimes one can be over-cautious, and the fear of taking a leap of faith can be terrifying. Sanura fears becoming swallowed whole by the power and wealth that is part of Assefa’s total package. Meeting his family isn’t conducive to the warm and fuzzies, either.
The tremendous weight of the prophecy looming in their near future and the terrible war that must be waged between Fire and Water. Is the pressure of their bond and their role in this battle proving too much for Sanura? Can she trust Assefa without reservation, even as his earthly job pulls him away from her? As the powerful fire witch and the massive shifter must come to terms with a prophecy that they must win to save the earth from devastation and darkness, they discover the most brutal of deceptions from one who has always been so trusted. The time is drawing near for that war to begin and their bond has not been completed, in fact they are like two splintered souls, weaker than the evil they must battle. How can they trust in a prophecy if they cannot trust in each other? Has their Fate been sealed as the darkness rises?
Heavy with emotion, tension and the weight of the future, these characters suffer from human frailties, human needs, and human deception, all while their Fate is wrapped up in a Divine prophecy that could mean their death. N.D. Jones runs wicked-hot with this addition to her series and her characters are incredibly passionate in all they do and believe. Ms. Jones’ writing is, once again, simply incredible!
I received an ARC edition from N.D. Jones
Trilogy: Death and Destiny - Book 3 Publisher: Kuumba Publishing (October 12, 2017) Publication Date: October 12, 2017 Genre: Paranormal Romance Print Length: 369 pages Available from: Amazon | Barnes & Noble For Reviews & More: http://tometender.blogspot.com
This was an ending that left me in tears. The final battle was epic, and everything leading up to it was just perfect.
Well except Assefa when he decided to . I really wanted to punch him then, hard. And yeah, he'd bite off my whole arm, but you know what? IT WOULD BE WORTH IT.
I'm glad one of the best fictional couples got their happy ending at last. But Assefa, I'M WATCHING YOU. YOU BETTER NOT DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT AGAIN. OR ELSE.
What an amazing fantasy book that is impossible not to read. This author is fantastic, just love anything that she writes . The characters just fit in with the story and takes you away for a short time in another world. Received an ARC, reviewing because I couldn’t get enough of the book.
Of Death and Deception is the perfect ending to the trilogy. I could not put this book down, in fact read it in less than 24 hours. This is a perfect balance between the paranormal and romance worlds. The continuing love affair between Assefa and Sanura, has passion, the uncertainty of a growing love filled with the hope and promise of the future. The battle between vengeance and forgiveness kept me reading Strong characters with a great storyline make this a "must read".
Thank you and I am looking forward to the next installment.
This was a great story filled with action, betrayal, love, hate and a battle between good and evil. The characters were well rounded and grounded. The story was fasted paced and flowed seamlessly. The bond, love and trust between Sanura and Assefa helped the overcome many things and to reach their destiny. Couldn't put down till
Wow, N.D. really summed up this trilogy with a damn bang! One thing is for certain, when fire and water came together, it proved to be a mighty fight.
Assefa and Sanura still hadn’t completed their mating bond, although the love the two shared wouldn’t prove otherwise. What neither of them could have foreseen was the war raged over 500 years ago that sort of sealed the character’s fate, or did it? Assefa finally takes his beloved to his home land of Sudan to meet his father, and while visiting it becomes clear there are forces much stronger than their love that does any and everything to rip the two apart. Jones introduced new and shady characters in the mix, as well as tons of excitement, as the reader embarks on a chaotic journey that is all Assefa and Sanura.
This was a true masterpiece at its finest. A beautifully told story of Assefa and Sanura’s love and a true test of wills in this final part of the trilogy. Readers will get to revisit old characters and come to love and hate some of the newer ones. What I loved about this story is that it really gets to the soul of Assefa and Sanura and proves, once and for all, that love conquers all. I truly enjoyed embarking on their journey. This was such an exciting read and one I’m sure will please all the paranormal romance fans out there.
Mello & June gives Of Deception and Divinity five stars out of this galaxy. Jones weaves her poetic storytelling into a comforter that will engulf and engage the reader with warmth and heart. You can’t ask for any more than that from an author, and Jones has proven she has the writing chops to back up her stories. Outstanding read! Make sure you show her some love and download a copy of it today. Until next time, Intellectual Minds, keep on reading.
Prophecy and the supernatural runs it's course flawlessly throughout N.D. Jones' latest book, "Of Deception and Divinity (Death and Destiny #3) with the compelling conflict between forgiveness and retaliation. Sanura and Assef's slow-burn love relationship was exciting to read with the vivid paranormal backstory which leads me to believe that Jones might bring this this couple back in yet another exciting series in the future (hint-hint)!
This series must be read in order or you will miss how author weaved the connection between H/h and the prophecy and magic! This is a movie worthy trilogy!
How I wanted to put some of my favorite quotes but that will give the story away!
5 creative award-winning stars *****
This ARC was provided by author but this is my honest review!
This book is nearly non-stop action. From paranormal battles to emotional upheavals, I couldn’t put this one down until I was finished—and that’s saying something considering how avidly I devoured the previous two books in the trilogy.
As the title implies, this book is the one where lies are revealed. N.D. Jones does a fantastic job of balancing the past influences on our main characters with their present day fears, failures, achievements and love. In fact, she makes the reader feel the love between Assefa and Sanura in a way that’s real, lasting…and threatened, so that you end up holding your breath in the hopes that they will find victory, which isn’t guaranteed.
All bonds are tested—friends, families, mates and familiars. Sanura’s character is a better woman than I am, because she proves herself much more forgiving than me, and more quickly forgiving at that. Assefa’s personal demons must be faced, and while I think the premise for his long absence from his witch a bit thin, it still holds merit considering his character’s fears, and I appreciate that he was the one that set about his own healing once he realized what he had to lose. Oddly enough I’m much more forgiving of the water witch of legend than the cat of legend, primarily because her inner conflict is completely understandable to me, but my disappointment in the one only emphasizes how ‘real’ these characters have been crafted to be.
One extremely minor ‘criticism’ for the formatting of this story. Near the end, the author inserts images in order to illustrate her vision. I’d have preferred the images to be in an appendix of some sort, and for her to have trusted her readers to create their own image, and to trust her own words, which were fluid and descriptive and more than good enough to convey the vision she wanted.
Romances have a happy ending. I wasn’t certain if this one would—there were several ways this story could have ended, including the continuation of the series into ‘the next generation’. It’s a testament to Ms. Jones’ skill that I was so worried for the outcome of her characters and, until it happened, I couldn’t be sure just what would happen.
Ms. Jones is taking the secondary characters of this book and creating stories for them, too. I will be the first in line to buy those books. If you enjoy paranormal romance as much as I do, you will not want to miss the Death and Destiny trilogy.
I must say, this trilogy truly did not disappoint. The ending was clearly thoroughly thought out, and concepts from the previous two novels were interwoven into this one with such precision that it was difficult to not be impressed. The emotions certainly ran deep as the waters of Nun in this novel, from finding out the identity of the water witch of Legend, to the details of Assefa's family and the circumstances of his birth, to discovering the true strength behind their mate bond. All of this jam packed into one novel made for a phenomenal finish that left me wanting more from all of these characters. I think one indication of a great story is when you are looking forward to seeing characters that aren't necessarily the male and female lead, and this book definitely caused me to feel that with more than one of the supporting cast members. I'm looking forward to the Beastly Magic series.
Wow...the third and final book was an awesome read! There was a lot of dark and delicious stuff going on, but it's hard for me to write a review without spoiling it for other readers. The few twists and turns that I did not see coming, made for some intense reading. Assefa and Sanura totally rocked! They strengthened their bond, and kicked some asses along the way. All I can say is that there is more magic, more violence...and more love. Which culminated in a great ending. 5 literally flaming stars!
This book was everything!! I was so excited to read it! I can't believe who the water witch turned out to be and I'm still kinda mad they didn't kick her butt for her betrayal! I am anxiously awaiting the next installment and the spin off to this series!!
This is a voluntary and honest review for an advanced copy.
Oh my word, this three part story has been amazing. Loved the first book, only liked the second but this third book has been out of this world. I didn't stop reading it once i started and to say i have a muzzy head is an understatement. I have a proper book hangover!!
This was a fast paced and an exciting read with everything from love, hate, jealousy, evil plots, wicked idiots, betrayal, a fight to beat a pending prophecy and in-between all this there are moments of laugh out loud humour .
All the characters are strong and detailed both good and evil. We learn more about the two main characters and even more about the others. This was an easy read with great story building and descriptions without being over detailed or too repetitive.
The story comes to a satisfactory ending but not before great battles, sad losses, lots of spells, plenty of fabulous shifters and all through this, Assefa and Sanura try to get their relationship sorted.
I cannot recommend this enough, i thoroughly thoroughly enjoyed this final epic story.
I found no reason to not stay in love with these two and all the adventure, death, destiny, magic and more that comes their way.
The new enemy, battle and their destiny to be defended. Assefa and Sanura's bond is not yet completed and now they must step back in to a fight. I got all the intensity that I have come to anticipate from reading this series. The magic, betrayal, surprises, and more come to life with all the other things coming their way. I'm not one to give away the juicy bits of the story but I will give caution. Don't read this one if you have not had the opportunity to devour the first two of this series. These books build on each other and provide you with a paranormal romance that follows through on its depth content. There was so much more to the story than what you get in one setting. Start at the beginning, work your way up to this point. You will not be disappointed. The richness of the world, the luring depth of the backstories, the conflict, the burning desire, the fight for destiny, and the overwheleming intensity to survive death and destruction.
N.D. Jones brought it all again. I don't think I'm ready to quite leave this world. It gives off that level of 'I could be there'.
This was an unexpected read but one I fully enjoyed. I did not rate this series nor did I leave a review until I finished the series. There parts which were infuriating and parts that made you laugh and cry. Yet, each book held my interest and the plot twist was good. I will not give anything away bc I believe the reader deserves to let the story unfold. However, I highly recommend this trilogy and I promise the reader won't be disappointed. I think I have added a new author to my must read list. 👍
I had a feeling that the water witch and fire witch of legend have been around each other but I didn't realize they were raised together. Now that was a series twist. I am glad though Sanura and Assefa finally are fully mated and made for the best example of love conquering all. Great story overall
Finally, I’m free. I’ve spent the last 4 days reading this trilogy. I just had to finish this series. It was excellent! Definitely filled with adventure, suspense and everything mythical. I would love to see this on the big screen.
What a get ending to this series! I was pretty spot on in my predictions but I loved how it all came together in the end. That was a well woven love story...
Another amazing book. I was blown away with the story, I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong characters. I want more.....I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This is the powerful ending to an amazing journey into Sanura’s And Assefa’s friendship turned marriage. I love how the author shows the power of this couple even when they are up against the Gods. I enjoyed this series especially the twists and turns up until the very end!
I absolutely loved this series. The love they had for each other was limitless. Mates! The book was funny, sad, crazy, intimate and like a movie. The picture were the best. This series is a must read❤️
It is 11:15 p.m. EST in Palmetto, Georgia and I just finished reading the last book in the series. Strangle the b@#$% with the snake around her neck! I read the complete trilogy this week. And this one did not disappoint either. Thank you for sharing your stories and having such strong characters. I look forward to Nathaniel!!!
Wow! This finale book was EPIC!!! N.D. Jones pulled out all the stops! She threw in everything but the kitchen sink! She left it all out the floor! This book gave us heartbreak and longing as well as forgiveness and unconditional love. There was loyalty and honor. Mourning and great losses plus memories and grief. Anger and revenge as well as gratitude and encouragement. Action, drama, suspense, betrayal and more! So many things! The fight between good and evil in this last book was star studded. I went to google so many times to read upon and see what the evil water witches monsters really looked like and what they could do! I received an education in African with a little Greek folklore while reading this book and I enjoyed EVERY SINGLE MINUTE OF IT! I had no idea of these beasts and their origins. Saying “wow” is an understatement when trying to express my current feelings about this entire series. Excellent writing, the characters were written so well that I felt, saw, and heard them. I also appreciate the pictures that were in this book to show such magnificent ascension. Aseefa and Sanura are in dyer straights when it comes to figuring out matehood, functioning as a couple, family issues and revelations, as well as the ever present mounting doom of the day of the serpents. What do they do? How should they fight? Who is the water witch of legend? Will they stay together? Their list of issues is endless. The climax is EPIC! This is an outstanding read!
A mark of an exceptional book is its ability to keep you at the edge of your seat with anticipation and evoked deep felt emotions. I hate crying, yet at the same time is cathartic. This book is very much about redemption and make me think of times I felt I was not worthy of forgiveness. The scene with the fire witch that haunted Sanura brought tears to my eyes. I so loved Assefa and Sanura's love story and wish I could continue to read. It's the kind of love I yearned for in my heart. I don't want to give more away as this love story is absolutely amazing. Although the story of Assefa and Sanura has ended, I can't wait to read Ms. Jones' next installment with Najja and Omar. Although I'm extremely curious about Cynthia and Zareb, whatever Ms. Jones put out is worthwhile of a read. She's a master in evoking emotions in readers, especially this reader. Please keep it coming!
Being together is all that they want - should it be so difficult to achieve?
Another terrific fast paced read that shows the growth of the characters all wrapped up in a skillfully woven plot. Will they be able to fight for the right to be together? With betrayal all around who can be trusted? Will the war flare into an all out battle? Sit and prepare to be transported into another world! I received an ARC copy for an honest review.
The best of the series. Interesting, dynamic characters. Graphically-detailed and creative creatures. A solid, multi-layered plot line. The perfect way to cap off this trilogy!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this story in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.

REVIEW
This is book 3 and I would recommend you start with book 1 if your new to this series. Assefa and Sanura have yet to complete their mating and who knows if they will get a chance with everything that is being thrown at them in this book.
We have creatures galore, strength, love and oh yes let's not forget deception. Sanura is not sure what to think of her soon to be inlaws either. Sanura is empathetic and that is not going to help her in this battle. She must let go of some of those feelings if she and her soon to be mate are to win this battle or is she alone? Well grab your copy and find out. This is a strong story, the characters are absolutely amazing. I have enjoyed every book in this series but this one by far is the best.
