A waitress fielding life’s curveballs. A CEO with a penchant for pie. She’s independent and tenacious. He’s chivalrous and demanding. They’re an unexpected match. Somehow, through a series of events, their lives are thrust together. But what happens next? Is this a one-night stand or something more?
Jiffy Kate is the joint pen name for Jiff Simpson and Jenny Kate Altman. They're co-writing besties who share a brain and a love of cute boys, good coffee, and fun times.
The rich guy/poor waitress thing has been done before and I don't hate it, but this is the best take I've ever read. I like that Kadi has weaknesses but she's not a weak person. Does that make sense? She encounters setbacks and she gets frustrated but she never gets defeated. She finds a way, even if it takes some time or extra effort.
Then you throw in Nathan. He's smooth and handsome and somewhat wealthy. Nathan takes a liking to Kadi and her pies and wants to sweep her off her feet. He wants to rescue her. At some points I even yelled at Kadi to take the help Nathan offered but she consistently refused.
Terrific story about personal growth, accepting help, and true strength. Absolutely recommended.
I really loved the first part of this book. The hero Nathan is the type of alpha I like. He was sweet, protective and jealous of the heroine. Kadi is an interesting heroine, as well. She is sweet and fiercely independent. However, at some point in the second part of the book, Nathan quit being much of an alpha, and Kadi's independence took that annoying turn of being pig-headed. Had I been able to assign stars accurately, this was a 3 1/2 star read for me. There was a little too much internal dithering for me, and I got tired of it. However, this was very well written, and parts of the second half are very good, it was just a little uneven and repetitive in parts. I would like to have seen the two main characters together, not in bed but in conversation and interactions about more than their disagreements.
Kadi is a waitress that is down on her luck, barely able to get by, and works long hours in order to make ends meet. Nathan is a CEO that comes to the diner every morning to request a piece of pie for breakfast. He’s intrigued by Kadi and her pies.
I appreciated Kadi’s independence and desire to make it on her own. But I also appreciated Nathan’s commanding and protective side that just wanted to provide for Kadi. Nathan was demanding yet had a bit of a sensitive side to him as well, having had a non ideal upbringing. I love that Kadi was able to accomplish her dreams!
Favorite quotes: ”I stayed late to buff the floors,” I say, pointing behind me, feeling like Baby in Dirty Dancing when she says she carried watermelons. -Kadi
”Look at me, Kadi,” he demands. “Keep your eyes on me.” -Nathan
And this is when my brain kicks my heart out the door and slams it shut, deadbolting it- chains and all. -Kadi
I was enjoying this until around the end of the second novella, when I became a little burnt that our heroine, this tough, strong woman suddenly turned into a big fat coward!
This was a great story of finding love in the most unexpected places!! Kari and Nathan both have issues. They both know loss and heartbreak. Both are guarded and they are complete total opposites. So when fate steps in will they find their way through the emotional rollercoaster known as life? Loved this sweet story!!
A delightful read!!!!! Bring this one to the pool or to the coffee shop. Wealthy alpha hero and waitress heroine. Sexy and entertaining from beginning to end. I loved this novella series. Another stellar read by this author duo! 💜
