Like all of Blair McDowell’s marvelous books, Fatal Charm is a non-stop romantic suspense thrill ride from beginning to end. And in addition to the edge-of-your-seat danger that the heroine is dropped into, we have an enchanting love story as well as a great story about the depths of friendship and just how terrific the love of a family-of-choice can be.

Jewelry designer Caitlin Abernathy is thrown into a boiling hot mess at the beginning of this story, and

Jewelry high jinks in Paris!

A deceptively simple start to dramatic and lively unfolding action, where romance and mystery take the lead!
Caitlin Abernathy, a jewelry designer is shocked by the murder of her boy friend Allen Thompson. His last words to the medics were a message for her. Something about an omelette. It didn't make sense.
Nothing is straightforward with this day. Shortly before Caitlin learns of Allen's death she is confronted by two men who rob her of a selection of her jewelry desi

Fatal Charm is a novel by Blair McDowell. Labelled on Goodreads as Thriller and Contemporary Romance, it's a mix of genres that attracts many different readers. I'll be honest that when I started out I was reading as if I knew what this book was already - there's a formula for so many of these books - but while it did portray a lot of that, there was just enough extra, unexpected zest, that I couldn't help but enjoy it! The action was perfectly balanced with the drama and the romance, dialogue w ...more

Fatal Charm is a novel written by Mrs. Blair McDowell. Before we analyze the book there is one thing we need to know about the author of this novel. Mrs. McDowell loves to travel and loves to travel a lot. This is something that is prominently seen in her novel, because as we read it we can feel as if we are those who travel from place to place. Personally, I am neither for neither against plots in which there is much traveling. However, after I read Fatal Charm, I noticed that, depending how th ...more

You won’t be able to put it down!

Fatal Charm by Blair McDowell is a gripping mystery/thriller that had me hanging by the skin of my teeth from the first paragraph! Caitlin is a jeweler who lives a quiet life in California. When Caitlin’s boyfriend is murdered, it starts an exciting and terrifying chain of events. Caitlin finds a valuable dragon amulet in with her much cheaper gemstones, she meets a handsome history professor, Colin who discovers the piece is quite valuable. Somehow Caitlin, her

The author of Fatal Charm is well-traveled and it shows in her writing of the various locations in the book. We follow Caitlin as she, a young jewelry designer, is trying to return a piece of important jewelry to the Louvre in Paris. However, this is no easy task as there are bad guys waiting to do her harm.

In comes Colin, history professor from Ireland (yes please) to help her. Naturally the chemistry between the two could be felt from the pages of the book. From the start of the book we reade

Caitlin Abernathy's life is going well. She designs jewelry in her own store and she's getting ready to meet with a huge buyer. Then strange events start taking place. Caitlin writes it off as bad luck, but is it really? She couldn't have guessed this side trip, the incidents, were all connected and would change her life.

A mystery introduced them, intrigue kept them together. Well written and engaging characters is what makes this book so fantastic. This one is definitely a page-turner. Fatal

This is the first book that I have read by Blair McDowell and I enjoyed it tremendously. She has a way with words, they flow beautifully and build an amazing story. The way that she connects Colin, Aristotle, and Caitlin and describes their individual relationships as well as the individual relationships makes this book a very enjoyable read. Thank you NetGalley and Blair McDowell for letting me read and review this book.

Diamonds have always been blamed for becoming a criminal. Something about the way that they shine in the light can entice the eyes.

Caitlin Abernathy lives her life in a routine. She works in her jewelry shop creating one of a kind pieces. She don't have time for dating nor does she have the urge. While heading to a potential client that would catapult her jewelry into bigger places, she is attacked and looses the jewelry. If that is not bad enough she gets word that a platonic friend has been m

Fatal Charm is the newest mystery romance from Blair McDowell. Expected release date is 8th September 2017.

I read this book in one sitting. The action is non-stop. There are murders and double-crosses and international jewel thievery. The plot rotates around a baroque pearl dragon amulet once owned by Marie Antoinette which eventually wound up stolen from the Louvre. Two of the thieves were caught but the third got away with the amulet.

The main character (a beautiful art jeweler named Caitlin)

Fatal Charm brings you mystery, thriller, and romance all in one story, mixed with murder, heartbreak, and international crime. Caitlin Abernathy makes custom jewelry with semi precious stones with the help of her assistant, Aristotle. He recommends her work to one of his professors, Colin Stryker, who specializes in ancient history.

Caitlin wasn’t sure which was worse; sorrow over the murder of her boyfriend or the fact that she should have loved him but didn’t. His burial brought grief along wi

By the name of this title you would expect something about witchcraft, a spell, a ‘fatal charm’ or something related to magic, right? Well, that caught us really off guard.
We have a perfectly normal girl working day by day and making progress through her social and working life, of all the sudden she finds herself in an international dilemma that would make her run for her life, all while solving the mystery of why she’s been framed and most important, to survive.

This book is a mystery novel with a highly romantic dimension, making it the best of both worlds of highly popularized genre fiction. Anyone interested in one or the other will take a lot away from this reading. I appreciate McDowell's pacing and general writing style. Everything happens quickly, with details when there is time to give details, with exciting action for the majority of the novel. The story is about a jewel designer, Caitlin, who ends up wrapped up in crime plot, all the while dea ...more

This was an audible gift from the author for a fair and honest review. Thank you Blair McDowell.
I will in the future look for more titles by this author.

Narration was single by Beverley Murray, her voice was clear and concise, but I often had a problem relating to who was speaking when there was multiple characters in a scene and the narrator used no inflection. This is only my opinion and should be taken lightly, others may not have a problem with this.

Fatal Charm is an intriguing novel combining elements of historical fiction and mystery. The central plot surrounds a beautiful dragon brooch that once belonged to Marie Antoinette and was stolen from the Louvre. The brooch ends up in the possession of San Francisco jewelry designer Caitlin, hidden in her shop by a former boyfriend who wasn’t what he seemed. Fatal Charm by Blair McDowell is a good mix of genres, with a little bit of thriller and a little romance thrown in for good measure. McDowell has a comfortable way of writing that is highly descriptive, making you feel you are right there in the scene. As an avid traveler, that experience has served McDowell well in conveying various places. A jeweler in San Francisco, Caitlin Abernathy is mugged by two men on the way to an appointment. Blair McDowell’s, “Fatal Charm,” is the combination of romantic chemistry and doing a momentous job trying to protect and return a missing jewel to the Louvre. Never having had the opportunity to leave the United States, I think McDowell does a fantastic job of describing the various beautiful (and obviously romantic) cities of Europe throughout the characters’ experiences. I love the obvious immersion of the cultures of the area and it adds to the entirety of the novel and the reading experienc ...more

This has all the normal trappings of a typical mystery thriller: Romance, guns, kidnapping, murders, a popular tourist destination, and a normal person who doesn't quite know what she's getting herself into until she's already in the thick of it. Of course she feels stuck between her personal life and her career as a jeweler, and it's actually her career that gets her involved in the plot, as she wants to know what happened with a valuable jewel that went missing with the Louvre. This story of Caitlin and Colin is extremely engaging and such an exciting read from start to finish. The mystery genre is extremely prominent and effective while also being enhanced and not overtaken entirely by the romance. Exciting, novel, fast-paced, and relatable, this book completely exceeded my expectations of a romantic mystery. The plot and setting are both thoroughly developed, and the characters have their own sense of self while also being completely relatable.

If you like a nice combination of thrill and romance, I suggest Fatal Charm by Blair McDowell. Ok, you will not get the Bruce Willis kind of thrills but then who believes that, right? In my personal case, the story was engrossing from page 1. A bit cliche at some point if you ask me (Girl with no family; parents, of course, died tragically, only his sidekick to care for her. Guy is blue-eyed and marble abs...). But the story caught me from page one.

Of course, the real highlight of this story is her ability to keep you on the edge of your seat as you work to figure out what’s going to happen next. With all of the action to contend with, you might find it impossible to fit anything else in, but the author manages to add a romance into the mix with ease.

This was a fantastic romantic suspense novel. I have never read anything by Blair McDowell but after this I plan on looking for more of her books. The two things I enjoy most in life are traveling and writing. I think I’ve been writing stories since the day I was first given a pencil and paper. I had a vivid imagination as a child…a characteristic that has gotten me into trouble more than once, and that has only increased with age. I’ve never been able to recount any event without embellishing it.

So it was natural that I should turn to writ
