Hampel dove into many fascinating and rich archives to assemble this wide ranging look into how speed has (and hasn't) influenced American society and education over the course of the twentieth century. Though he doesn't explicitly reflect on as much, the dichotomous portraits he paints of how speed impacts the corporate vs. academic worlds was the most fascinating thing his book offered, particularly at a moment where the latter world seems to be becoming more and more like the former.
