I really enjoyed this book, it had me laughing out loud in several places!
It follows the story of Grace, a harried single mum of three young boys, who inherits a vineyard in the Margaret River region of Western Australia when her ex-husband dies suddenly. The place is a dump, but has a lot of potential, so she calls on local hunky real estate agent Scott for an appraisal. She also stumbles across squatter turned handyman Mitch, scarred and with a mysterious past, who helps her out with maintenan

It's not until somebody dies that you find out about the secrets they may have been hiding and that's exactly what happened when Grace Middleton's ex husband, Jake suddenly died. Leaving behind a vineyard located in the Margaret River Wine Region for their three sons, Ryan, Alfie and Charlie. This was the last thing Grace would've expected from, Jake.

At first Grace has thoughts of selling Gum Leaf Grove as the money from the property would help remove the pressure off the family financially. But

When Grace Middleton’s ex-husband Jake died unexpectedly, she was shocked when she learned he’d left their three boys, Ryan, Alfie and Charlie, a vineyard deep in the Margaret River and surrounded by other well-known and successful vineyards. Immediately thinking of selling to gain some much-needed funds for the boys’ future, plus Alfie’s ongoing medical treatment, and with school holidays looming, Grace decided to drive the three hours from Perth to check out this secret vineyard (that no one k ...more

I have decided that audio reads, for now, need not be literary fiction as I often choose; I need chick lit, rural romance or something simple. This book was perfect, it allowed me take into consideration the obvious distractions I face with my daily hour commute.

Grace is a super mum to three gorgeous boys, not only does she survive a cheating nasty ex husband, she seems to thrive. Grace ends up in the wine region of Western Australia after an unexpected turn of events, and here we really see he

The Secret Vineyard was an easy, sassy companion during my travels abroad.

It was fun, relatable, in some cases, and it also had a good dose of wishful thinking, in other words, an excellent contemporary romance novel.

The fact that it takes place in one of my favourite places in Western Australia was just an added bonus.

This was another winner from Loretta Hill.

This will go towards my Aussie Author Challenge on www.bookloverbookreviews.com

Warm, funny, genuine and profoundly romantic. These are the words that come to mind when I think about Loretta Hill’s new release, a novel titled, The Secret Vineyard. A backdrop of the stunning south-west location of Western Australia, close to the Margaret River wine region, compliments the absorbing storyline. Loretta Hill’s latest features themes of loss, new beginnings, forgiveness, family and love. The Secret Vineyard is one book you definitely need to

This novel, The Secret Vineyard, would have to be one of the most delightful reads I’ve had in a long time. For me, everything worked. I both laughed out loud and had the occasional tear; I couldn’t wait to get back to it each time I had to put it down.

Grace is a highly relatable character. A single mum with three boys, dumped by her shallow husband for her *best* friend, working as much as she can while trying to balance mothering; I liked Grace right from the get-go. An unexpected windfall com

Loretta Hill’s novels are an integral part of summer. It’s practically an Australian tradition to lie on a couch under air conditioning (or a beach if you’re lucky) and lose yourself in the story. The Secret Vineyard is a light romantic comedy that will definitely entertain on a long, hot summer day. If you’ve read The Maxwell Sisters and The Grass is Greener, you will recognise a few of the supporting cast. If not, you’ve got plenty to look forward to!

I laughed so much reading The Secret Vineyard by Loretta Hill - this warm-hearted romance was engaging from start to finish. It's one of those books where you're cheering on the characters all the way (and telling them when to stop what they're doing because 'that guy is a sleaze and you don't want him'). I loved the relationship between Grace and her sons - those 'I need five minutes' peace' feelings while loving your kids to bits are common to most mothers, I'd say. The interactions between Gr ...more

This is the first Loretta Hill book I've read and I can't wait to go back and read her previous books. What a great read, I didn't want to put it down. I loved that it was set in Yallingup in the south west, I could relate to so much. I thought Grace was such a great character, a strong woman who kept going regardless of the hurdles put in front of her. I would love to have a mystery guest like Mitch come stay with me, he sounded quite tasty and very handy around the house. The kids were great c ...more

New to me author. I listened to the audiobook. A contemporary MF set in wine country WA. I’ll read more from this Australian author. The narrator did a wonderful job, with many individual voices.

I love all of Loretta Hill’s books and I definitely noticed when she didn’t release something in 2017. However we are kicking off 2018 in the right way with a new book from her.

Grace Middleton is struggling at the beginning of the book. She’s a single mother of three, her former husband having left her for her former best friend. He seems to have little interest in their young boys and almost zero interest in contributing to their upbringing, despite his high-paying job. Grace is tired, lonely,

The Secret Vineyard is a light-hearted romantic romp that is perfect summer beach reading.

I struggled at the beginning - feeling something didn't quite sit right with the writing style, but it almost as if it was the editing that was not the best, rather than the writing. As it turns out the back cover of my copy is incorrect, listing the main character's ex husband as Derek rather than Jake, so there is the possibility I've got a pre-release copy that slipped through the cracks. I'm interested

The Secret Vineyard by Loretta Hill. (2018).

This is the first Loretta Hill book I've read, but I'm keen to read more.

What a wonderful book to read during the warmer summer months. It was made even better by being familiar with the area it is set in. Grace is devoted to her sons, but then when her ex husband dies and leaves the boys his childhood home Gum Leaf Grove. A vineyard, where a murder has been committed. She goes to check this out before she sells it. However things become a little complex. Antoine, a sort of non worker from the next vineyard tells her it is haunted. I've been having a hard time finding really good books lately. To change things up a bit I thought I'd try a different genre to what I would usually read. Considering I don't read romance novels because I can't stand the tropes (love triangles, ugh), I quite enjoyed this book. It still made me cringe at times, and was fairly predictable, but over all it was an enjoyable story which kept me interested until the heartwarming end. Bonuses: the "true love's first kiss" and the happily-ever-after end ...more

Gosh I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Well done to Loretta Hill. If Grace, the protagonist, were a real person she would be my best friend. I loved her. Hill portrayed Grace in such a wonderful fashion and she stuck true to Grace's characteristics all the way through. The boys too were portrayed in a realistic no nonsense manner. The storyline was great and moved along at a good pace. Thanks Loretta Hill for a great book. I will be recommending to all and sundry.

Abandoned by her ex-husband who has just died, down and out mum of three Grace packs up and heads off on a new adventure with her young boys. As she soul searchers she meets two diverse men, one who wants her or her newfound property in trust for her boys, the other who wants the ideal family and escape from international stardom he's hiding from. Two vast worlds collide alongside the raw reality of solo parenting including one son with ADHD. Inspirational grace.

I really enjoyed this book, including the depiction of kid characters that actually act like kids and not idealised angels.

Would have been five stars but I bumped a star off for religious references to God. References were only minor but I felt a bit shocked/ deceived because there was nothing like that in Loretta's previous books. If references get stronger in future books I would want the book to be identified as christian romance on the back cover as it's not something I would read.

The book was easy to read, and because I have lived in WA, i enjoyed visiting the Yallingup area through the book. The story was familiar to everyday life-but with an added fairy-tale ending, that made me think it was really in the romantic comedy genre. Fun, light hearted, familiar and easy to read.
Relationships between family members and acquaintances is really what the story is about - and this may provide a mirror for our own lives, &/or prompt some reflection.

Loretta was born in Perth, Western Australia, the eldest of four girls. She enjoyed writing from a very early age, spinning stories almost as soon as she could read them.

She was first published in the West Australian Newspaper with a short story about a circus horse when she was eleven years old. They paid her ten dollars for it and she knew she’d found her calling.
